I don’t know why people underestimate Rodri so much…… citi last season lost almost all the games Rodri was absent. This has to really be taken into consideration….. Rodri is like Buskets, the game progresses very well without you even knowing he is there, he is not like a forwards who everybody literally see and expects goals from. Rodris position, game style and character make it difficult for people who don’t understand football yo really appreciate what he is doing. I am very happy that such a player has for once been considered ahead of a flashy forward player.

Dani K makes a lot of good points and I was thinking around the same lines. Everyone also makes good points including Sitso from the Madrid angle. However, the year under review for this award was from the 1st of August 2023 to the 31st of July 2024. Dani mentioned it that recency bias is a thing and the UCL final was on the 1st of June 2024. The Euros and Copa finals were both played on the 14th of July 2024 and the year in review shut on the 31st of that month. A few days later the voting was done. Certainly, the international tournaments will register more in the minds of the voters. Also in the year under review, Rodri won the Uefa Super Cup in August of 2023 and was also voted the Fifa Club World Cup player of the tournament which Man City won in December of 2023. So in terms of trophies in the year under review, Rodri won more than Vinicius Jr. He won the PL, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the Euros as against Vinicius who won the UCL and La Liga.

The reason why Vini didn't win the la Liga best player was because he lost alot of matches. But even when he came on at the latter part, he made an impact in la Liga when Jude lost a big of form and that was what even made him (jude) lost the balon dor shout. Let's be honest and work with facts here. You might like Vini but everything that happened in this year's balon dor says alot. First of all, the whole thing comes down the tension between real madrid and uefa with the super league. Rodri's performance at the euros didn't deserve to be the best player. There were better players in his team than him. Rodri wasn't in the list the league's best players, not even in the team of the season for UCL. He lost a final to United and he didn't play the decisive part of the euros that won Spain the league. Now if we talk about voting, these people are hand picked. There was a journalist who is a barca fan who has been on Vini his entire life and didn't vote him to be part of the top 10. How should someone like that be taken serious? Most of these journalists vote with sentiment and that's a fact. Another journalist mentioned the fact that rodri has no social media and has a degree as part of his reasons for voting Rodri. These are the doing of uefa. They partnered to carry out this award and so they clearly picked some journalists that weren't worthy!!! Let's face the fact. Ball recoveries, tackles and clearance are the best part of Rodri's game but he was not top 10 for any of those so how does he win the best player? You downplay the racism campaign against Vini but a broadcasting television posted pictures mocking the guy and you call Real Madrid classless for not going?
