This project shows how to build a simple instrument which plays music on wine glasses. It can be used with a keyboard to play live or playback midi files from your computer.

Hi, Great project! Grabbing the glass-bases down hard onto a non-dissipative surface (granite or concrete instead of wood) will give a higher Q-factor of resonance, and make for louder and cleaner notes. Also with the wooden (future) instrument, the place where you clamp the wood makes a lot of difference to the note. Clamping on a node of a modeshape with an elastic element should work the best!

Good fun!! Love the musical projects. A wine glass on a controlled 'lazy-susan' with a rubber finger to make the ringing sound would be silly. We had a concerto at a party once with everyone filling their glasses and rubbing those rims. oh baby

I think using wind chimes instead of glasses might sound better and be easier to keep around the house for more than a day (the water evaporates). Could be fun hanging from the ceiling next to the custom light. Fun project anyway, I love it!

Nice! Though beer bottles + solenoid valves, and an air pump might sound a little better.

Great job! Can you make the solenoids quieter by some rubber rings to dampen the movement endpoints? An maybe shield them in some microphone fur? I could even think of modifying their signal, to not be jerky, but a smoother curve. But that's probably overkill ;)

Great project. But why didn't you have the solenoids make contact with the wine glasses and cut out the need for 3D printed mallets?

Maybe too common, but using a xylophone, already tuned and maybe using it as phone ringtone when a call comes, using ifttt will simplify the project on the phone connection side, anyway great videos

If you could use the mallets to dampen the sounds of the glasses to shorten the time a sound is played it would sound a lot better.

If you already know Blender it works quite well. There are 3d printing tools built in.
@kezi___
@kezi___ 6 жыл бұрын
no, it's terribile, and the 3d printing tools are almost useless (they only fix when blender itself screws up) it may be ok for creating and printing toys but for mechanical parts a parametric cad is 100 times better
@John2009R
@John2009R 6 жыл бұрын
If you are starting out modelling for 3d printing I would not recommend Blender either but if you have been modeling in it for a long time (15 years in my case) you can get good results quickly for 3d printing. Even mechanical parts. Here is an RC boat I am working on kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZfHcnqEj7aqn7s Admittedly, it is a toy.
