I think the problem is even if a kid learns coping skills and gets therapy at the end of the day they have to go home to a house that may be emotionally abusive. You hope the skills will have an influence on the family but sometimes parents need to learn how to parent.
@mallorygrimste3 жыл бұрын
That is a very real possibility for some kids and families, however assuming that it's only one person's or people's responsibility can lead to some problematic experiences in and out of the therapy room.
@MechaJutaro Жыл бұрын
Yeah.Add to that the fact that the sort of parents you're describing excel at conning therapists, by inundating them with "Poor me" stories which paint the child as Damien Thorne come to life, and themselves as the abused party

I’m glad I found your video!! My name is Akira, and I’m 21 years old. I would honestly say when covid started my mental health went downhill… it affected what I thought was my “dream job”. I quit after one year so that I could take a break on my brain. I’m getting my Insurance in June and will be able to go to the doctor, dentist, and hopefully start therapy soon to talk about why I feel like this.. I cry all the time and sometimes it seems like no reason, I’m down on myself a lot more now, and I always am just sitting in the house on my days off. I want to be able to text my friends comfortably and tell them how I feel. I don’t want to push them away but I’m struggling with myself mentally to not go out as much anymore. I feel like maybe some help on my own skill growths, and medication may help me out a lot. I also need to talk to my mom and be open about everything I’ve been feeling besides my mood feeling unbalanced. Thank you for your videos again!! 🙏🏽💕

Sounds like you have depression. Just tell your parents that you feel depressed and hopefully they can get you the help you deserve. Please try not to be ashamed. Remember, it takes courage to admit that you’re not doing well. It’s a sign of strength, not a weakness. I started therapy last month for my depression and anxiety and it has been such a blessing. It might feel weird or uncomfortable to share all your personal experiences but they’re there to help you help yourself. I really hope you get help. EVERYBODY deserves to be happy! 🫶

I'm literally shaking I start my intake in few hours my mom got me a therapist in the same line hers is from 😭 I'm so scared I'm worried to actually about the question part because I have hurt myself a few times and wanted to well you know. But I hope it's not gonna get me put in a mental hospital and starved like I have been seeing on social media my therapy is off zoom some people will say that's good but it's just scaring me more :(
@mallorygrimste2 жыл бұрын
Oh I hope it went well!! My apologies I'm just getting a chance to see and respond to this a few days later. How did it go? As for the concern about going to a hospital and starving, I can safely say as someone who worked for many yearssss in a local psychiatric hospital and emergency department setting that starvation is not what happens in those places. Of course that's just my working experience, but every place is different. One more thing- could you remove your age from the comment? We don't want young people being targeted on here. Thank you!!! Proud of you.

My moms making me go to therapy and I really don’t want to go because I hate it when people ask me questions like that so so much even if it’s a small question, I don’t think I’ll be able to “do” therapy and I don’t want my mom to waste her money but idk what to do
@mallorygrimste2 жыл бұрын
LOVE that you know that about yourself already. Make sure to eat your therapist know that early on. There are lots of different therapy styles so letting your therapist know what works and doesn’t work for you can help them adjust to your needs. They may still ask questions bc it is a form of communication, can’t eliminate questions entirely, but we can get pretty creative in working with our clients. Lucky you for already knowing this!! Most people don’t even know what works for them yet so you’re on a head start 😊

That’s awesome your mom is supportive and you’ve found some therapists to connect with. They’ll assess your experience and let you know if you qualify for a diagnosis- but more importantly than that they’ll help you navigate your problem areas- regardless of the diagnosis. How did it go?

I have my first appointment in about 2 weeks. I have tried therapy in the past but it has never gone anywhere because my mother won’t let me talk about the things I need to talk about. Do you have any advice on how I can deal with this? Apparently she has to be present for the first few sessions and I feel it won’t go anywhere again because I won’t be able to open up.

You should call your therapist in secret and tell her this. So next appointment with your mom the therapist can tell her she needs to have some sessions with just you and maybe later your mom can join again.

Hello- I just seen you asked a similar question on another video. Have you seen this one yet? How to tell your therapist when you feel suicidal (+ get help!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZKTlGucfrKBjdU I share exactly my process and what typically can happen when you share. That being said no one can stop you from lying, though I’d be curious why lie about something you’re seeking help for from a trained professional?

I have a friend that wants to do something like therapy but doesn't like being probed by questions. Would a dbt therapist be a better choice than cbt for them or something else?
@mallorygrimste3 жыл бұрын
that's a great question- honestly most therapists are going to ask questions because our training is not to assume and to stay curious. If they're doing for more directive help then coaching, rather than psychotherapy, would make more sense. Tough to say without an actual clinical assessment though.
