In response to Kibito2003's comment (the same but in spanish). Es cierto!!!, es una final de Liga de Campeones!!! (bueno!, en este caso, una final de Copa de Europa). Por esta época, estos equipos eran muy fuertes y prestigiosos. El Malmö fue un embajador clásico del fútbol sueco (además de ser un equipo con bastante recorrido en champions league) y el Notts Forest fue campeón de Europa en dos ocasiones (consecutivas) y campeón de Premier League en 1978... sencillamente, dos equipos gigantes!!!

after nottingham forest was promoted from the 2nd division to the 1st division, that season they won immediately finished on place 1#, and they won europacup, and that year after another europa cup, but then they ended second in 1st division

@madridista1902 Things change in football, when Clough took over we were a average city team sitting in the second division in no danger of going down, and no realistic chance of going up. Five years later, we were Champions of English football and had won a European Cup twice in a row, plus the Supercup and the League Cups. In 2002, Leeds got to the Semi-finals of the Champions League, and then five years later, were relegated to the third division... You never know in football...

Yeah!!!, It's a Champions League final!!! (well, on this case, an Europan Cup final). On this times, this teams were very strongs & prestigious. The Malmö was a classic ambassador of Swedish football & the Notts Forrest was a Europe's champion two times & Premier League champion in 1978. Ps: I'm sorry for my poor english :$

No pues lo que pasa es lo siguiente: esos dos equipos fueron dominadores en los años 70 y 80... creo que el Malmö estuvo bastante competitivo en los años 90 (en la época de Suecia tercero en el Mundial); mientras que Arsenal es un equipo muy de País porque a nivel continental y mundial no ha tenido la talla suficiente como para hacer algo de aclamar; aplica también esto para Valencia, equipo que solo ha tenido figuración en UEFA. Pero claro!, sin duda, eran otros tiempos...

Time for Clough to stop being a millstone (like 1966 is) and starts to be an inspiration, a club like Forest has to be a Prem mainstay, tradition demands it as would Brian and Peter.

I never understood why he left Archie Gemmil out. Shame really. Today he would have got a medal as a squad player but in 1979 I believe it was the subs only plus the starting 11 that got medals. Shame for him as he played some great stuff getting them there.

You obviously don't have a clue, do you? From 82 to 89, the swedish championship ("SM-gold") was awarded to winner of a playoff stage, consisting of the four top-placed teams in the regular season. The championship was NOT won by the winner in some kind of "super cup" between the league winner and the cup winner. It is correct that MFF finished first in the regular season 3 times but failed to win the championship. That is of course not the same thing as the championship was "taken from them".

Malmö didn't "chose" to win the regular season but fail in the playoffs. The truth, of course, is that Malmö really wanted to win not only the regular season but also the playoffs. However they couldn't keep their cool and lost in the playoffs, thus missing out of the championship title. Simple as that. :)

Well IFK has won the swedish championship 18 times. MFF only 15 times. The goal for any team in a national competion must be to win the championship title. So, if you fail to win the championship, does it really matter that you finished first in the (meaningless) regular season? :)
