I was eleven in 1977 and MAD on football (grew out of it around 1986-87 when I moved from the North to the South West). I realise the game is faster now, goals are amazing, defenders are better, skills are amazing, players are way way fitter.....but here I am, watching this having not been interested in modern football for at least two decades, utterly compelled again because of Motson's voice, the players' names I remember so well and the characters, the physicality of it all and how visceral it was both on and off the pitch. The occasion, the atmosphere in those days was sooo HUGE. Going to football matches and being in a crowd like that are memories to cherish. Dare as I say, being an England fan as a child back in the day (not now, couldn't give a shit), I was GLUED to the screen when this was on BBC1 that day....but the only thing I can remember is the crossbar snapping. Ha ha sorry!

You have Queen, we have Democracy. Never will be we brothers.
@Azog15010 жыл бұрын
The monarch that first united the two thrones was....Scottish. In fact England was one of Europe's first republics. And England had democracy (of sorts) before Scotland did.
@johnbull91956 жыл бұрын
Democracy? A Scottish parliament dominated by liberal lefties, including the Scottish "Conservative" Party? Some democracy!

James the 1st of england/James the 6th of scotland was the king that united the two realms. So learn the history before you say a dumb statement like that.
@Drugov786 жыл бұрын
Anderson Alaxandair LoL, first times of what we call today « United Kingdom » was made by a Scottish king ( James the 6th of Scotland, 1st of England ) and actually because his mother was half sister of Elizabeth the 1st.... so go back and study your/our history before writing such stupid statements.... Oh and by the way, I am English with Scottish descent, how does that feel for you.... idiot

Scotland owned Wembly that day, probably the death knell for the 'Home Internationals' because England were getting humilated on and off the park. And they took their football home! didn't want to play anymore.

You should look at the rsults between the two sides in the years leading up the end of the championship. What was England going to learn by playing such poor opposition and getting their ground smashed up as well? Humiliation ? You should look at England v Scotland in 61, 69, 71, 75 and a few other years. ...and the look at Argentina 1978. You know, the Sunday morning pub side led by the berk who could not keep his mouth shut. Scotland owning Wembley. Yea, digging up the turf, smashing up the goals. That is how little they thought of our shared football history. Correction, that is how little they thought. So called England supporters have dragged England's name through the mud on multiple occasions. But we will take no lectures from the Scots.

You should lok at the fact there are 10 times more of you lot and when the last game was played at Wembley Scotland won but you poor losers couldn't have that oh no! so England fitted in another fixture. England the Cuntry that everybody in the World hates I wonder why?e
@thevillaaston78116 жыл бұрын
It was 3-0 to England actually - 11.11.2016. I had to look it up as it the match did'nt stick in the memory. The matches against poor opposition rarely do. England the country that everybody in the world hates. ROTFL. That is why everybody wants us at tournaments. The viewing figures make that clear. Scotland the country that everybody in the world hates? Probably not. Who knows anything about them? How old would a person have to be to have seen them in a major tournament?

Now I know every Scot says they were here for this….but I actually was. Didn’t have a ticket, went on a bus my college had organised. Luckily got a ticket in London and also met Ken Buchanan at our hotel. All memories I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life.

Fair play to ya, if I were Scottish I'd of felt like that, Scots were good back in the 70's and most of the 80's, all the players at top clubs winning domestic and European trophies

@@shaunpalmer3216 They had a damn good team back then. Should have done a lot better in the 78 World Cup. If there was a World Cup Scots could have possibly won, it was 78.

Remember me and my Irish parents watching this in Shepherd's Bush which is not too far rom Wembley. My father supported whoever England were playing. Shame you didn't see the bit when they carried the broken goalposts away with them. Scattered over Scotland must be bits of wood and netting . Someone must still have ,right?
