I was in primary school when this game was played. The annual England, Scotland fixture were along with the Cup final were the only matches shown live and the build up was incredible . It's so heartbreaking to see how many of these fine players of my childhood we've lost. May they all RIP.

I was eleven in 1977 and MAD on football (grew out of it around 1986-87 when I moved from the North to the South West). I realise the game is faster now, goals are amazing, defenders are better, skills are amazing, players are way way fitter.....but here I am, watching this having not been interested in modern football for at least two decades, utterly compelled again because of Motson's voice, the players' names I remember so well and the characters, the physicality of it all and how visceral it was both on and off the pitch. The occasion, the atmosphere in those days was sooo HUGE. Going to football matches and being in a crowd like that are memories to cherish. Dare as I say, being an England fan as a child back in the day (not now, couldn't give a shit), I was GLUED to the screen when this was on BBC1 that day....but the only thing I can remember is the crossbar snapping. Ha ha sorry!

It seems they were playing in Scotland. It is so amazing to see how proud are the Scottish, their pure love for their beautiful land. We do not have this in Italy, Italy for centuries was prevented by Catholic Church to become a united country and now we see the result of this: an "accrocco" of different counties with nothing to share but indifference when not hate. So impressive is to see the pride of Scottish as well as English, Irish, Welsh people. When they are in a stadium, it is fantastic to see and listen to them. Greetings from Rome Italy. March 2020

The reaction to the tackle by McQueen on Channon shows just how much times have changed. If that happened today, the players would be all over the ref, clamouring for a red card. As it was, only a foul given and Channon just walking away as if it was just part and parcel of the game then- which it was.

Brilliant footage from the glory days of football - before all the Premiership bollocks. It was a different world then. Can you imagine 10's of thousands of pissed up fans running onto the 'new' Wembley pitch and breaking the cross bars in celebration today! John Motson's condemnation of the Scotland fans is so understated.

I was there and a couple of Scottish fans saved the day . One of the big internal gates was locked. These 2 guys were working at Wembley, so they consulted the police and got their welding stuff from nearby and cut the hinges from the gates. In next to no time we were all in safely and peacefully. I always remember this because when I got back into London that evening I experienced my 1st £1 pint! When I questioned this I was informed it was due to the late Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Gawd Bless her.

You should look at the rsults between the two sides in the years leading up the end of the championship. What was England going to learn by playing such poor opposition and getting their ground smashed up as well? Humiliation ? You should look at England v Scotland in 61, 69, 71, 75 and a few other years. ...and the look at Argentina 1978. You know, the Sunday morning pub side led by the berk who could not keep his mouth shut. Scotland owning Wembley. Yea, digging up the turf, smashing up the goals. That is how little they thought of our shared football history. Correction, that is how little they thought. So called England supporters have dragged England's name through the mud on multiple occasions. But we will take no lectures from the Scots.

It was 3-0 to England actually - 11.11.2016. I had to look it up as it the match did'nt stick in the memory. The matches against poor opposition rarely do. England the country that everybody in the world hates. ROTFL. That is why everybody wants us at tournaments. The viewing figures make that clear. Scotland the country that everybody in the world hates? Probably not. Who knows anything about them? How old would a person have to be to have seen them in a major tournament?
