True story behind the song. Guy is a Jr. in High School; flunks algebra and has to take freshman algebra again. Meets freshman girl in the class. Used to ride his bike to her house. One day, he got there, she was with another guy, he knew it was over, broke his heart, but we got one of the best songs ever out of it.

When I was living in Korea, I had someone from the US send me this album. My main idea was to have a Korean painter/artist make a very large painting on canvas of the cover and frame it. The guy did a fantastic job on it. He detailed it very, very well. When I moved back to the States I brought it back with me and it hangs on the wall to this day at home. People that come to the house constantly comment about it. I show them the album and they look at the painting. The word "amazing" is what I hear from them. Thank you Malo for coming into existence.............

This is such a precious piece of music, a salsa of beautiful vocals, gentle Rhumba rhythms and instrumental licks - if only ears had taste buds. I'm especially drawn to Jorge Santana's guitar playing which softly waves and pulses in the background. You have to listen carefully to hear his magic. Love this song! I just graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco when it came out. Official Statement from Richard Bean of MALO. Friday, May 15, 2020 I am saddened by the news I received yesterday of my good friend and musical brother, Jorge Santana’s passing. Jorge and I played together in the Malibu’s in the late 1960’s before we became MALO and signed with Warner Bros. I first met Jorge when we were rehearsing at my home in San Francisco. One of our band members, Carlos Gomez at the time brought Jorge to rehearsal and Jorge liked the band. From that day on we began our musical journey. Over several decades Jorge and I collaborated together on many songs. I wrote and recorded, Suavecito which was our biggest hit song and Jorge was in studio with us as well. When Jorge went on a solo career we continued performing together in the Jorge Santana Band. I wrote more songs during that time and one song in particular was titled, “Love the Way” in which Jorge introduced onto his Bikini album released in 1978. I had written many songs on that album and enjoyed our collaboration My Heart goes out to his family, friends and those who had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him at one time or another. MALO is still touring now that I am leading the band, however we are on hiatus at this time due to the virus issue. My bandmates and I will continue to carry the legacy of MALO in memory of Jorge as he was a huge contributor to our success.

Earlier, Willy G. & Thee Midniter's Dreaming Casually, That's All were anthems for Cholos and the Low Rider's on Whittier Blvd.

For years I searched for this song.I had only heard it a time or two on the radio so I didn't really know what it was called or who even sang it. All I could remember were a few words and I got a couple of them wrong. I mentioned it on KZbin asking if anyone remembered what song I was referring to. I didn't expect to get an answer but I did and I am so thankful to that person for leading me in the right direction to find it. This happened over twenty years ago so I can't remember who helped me but wherever you are, thank you again and may the Lord richly bless you now and always.
