When I was living in Korea, I had someone from the US send me this album. My main idea was to have a Korean painter/artist make a very large painting on canvas of the cover and frame it. The guy did a fantastic job on it. He detailed it very, very well. When I moved back to the States I brought it back with me and it hangs on the wall to this day at home. People that come to the house constantly comment about it. I show them the album and they look at the painting. The word "amazing" is what I hear from them. This is such a precious piece of music, a salsa of beautiful vocals, gentle Rhumba rhythms and instrumental licks - if only ears had taste buds. I'm especially drawn to Jorge Santana's guitar playing which softly waves and pulses in the background. You have to listen carefully to hear his magic. This is truly an enduring and delightful classic. Malo means bad in Spanish, but this is bad in the best way. RIP Jorge, thanks for the licks. Rainbows of love to you, brother.

Hello Mr Houlgate. It's a small big world. A photographer in the Eugene area just posted pictures of a recent Malo concert and I had to ask if it was the same group that wrote Suavacito.... We covered this poorly in one of my early bands. 🫣
@JohnHoulgate4 ай бұрын
@@markelliottwest Hello Mark, I don't think this is an easy song to cover, so don't be so hard on yourself. Malo has been known to show up in some places. It's usually a blend of very few older members with some younger ones. I've seen videos taken within San Francisco's Mission District where Jorge Santana and his more famous brother grew up. Jorge went on to perform in other bands, including Abel and the Prophets. One of my "spiritual" friends played bass with him.

Wow reading these comments brings a smile to my heart... I heard this song on pandora recently and instantly fell in love with it and had to find it on KZbin!! But seeing these comments blew my mind that this song isn't new !!! This song feels like a warm summer evening with loved ones and the night is just young.

This came out before I was born, I think my old man still has the album. This is the stuff my parents jammed to! Classic then and classic now!

My uncle Mario showed me this song in the 90s. Use to love watching his band perform this song and it still hits close to home.

Hello Diane. We are going to release some unreleased songs we had back in the 70's. We find that a younger generation of musicians are going back to the feel of the old school.

Late 1960's, early 1970's was a time of the Chicano Movement & Pride. Malo, Santana, El Chicano, etc. came to the fore producing memorable, timeless music on a level which hasn't been reached 50 years later. Earlier, Willy G. & Thee Midniter's Dreaming Casually, That's All were anthems for Cholos and the Low Rider's on Whittier Blvd.
