My Chicago cousin sent a bottle of Malört to my wife and I in Reno at the beginning of Covid19™️ Quarantine. (sometime in April 2020) Me, my wife, and my wife’s uncle all took a shot and decided “this bottle is going to last us two years.” We ended up finishing it in a few hours and ordered two more bottles online for the following weekend. 🇺🇸

Sweden here! The Swedish word for wormwood is malört. When we mix wormwood with vodka it's called aquavit. I wonder how it got lost in translation *.*

I bought a 50ml (1.6oz) Malort mini at the checkout once, opened it at a party. Six people tasted it, didn't even finish the bottle. Tossed it in the trash. Best description I've heard is that it tastes like bile, extra bitter, alcohol infused bile.

I dont know what the hate on wormwood is all about- ive tried booze(vodka + herb) and tea of two varities(sweet annie and regular). 1- despite being in the same genus they taste nothing alike, 2 they are pretty damn good tasting if I do say so myself. Sweet annie ...is something in between angostura and centaury. Not exactly, but its kind of fruity. Plain wormwood has a stronk herbal note(and I do mean STRONK). Its more bitter, but also less high pitched, more of a strong but dull bitterness. Out of all the bitter herbs Ive tried....one that I didnt quite like was artichoke leaves. For some reason its...oily.

I really like Malört. One of my friends thought he’d get me for my first time going to a bar after we got off of work around 10-11PM. He buys me a shot of Malört. He, the bartender and a few people around me were looking so hard at me. I take the shot, and their eyes light up waiting for my reaction. I pause, take in what I’m experiencing, and tell them, “Huh. This is interesting. I like it.” Them: 😐😳🫨🤯🫣😵‍💫🤢🤮
