Thanks Andy for the enthusiastic review. Completely agree with your Springbank comparison, very reminiscent of the Springbank 10 (but affordable and actually available). I now have two bottles of each of the SRV5 and the TB/BSW. Both fantastic drams and very probably the best value-to-quality offering out there at the moment.

Belter of a dram! Well worth checking out if you haven’t already is the Thompson Bros 6 year old blended scotch (TB/BSW) for £34. A sulphur free beauty that puts many higher priced sherried malts to shame.

I bought mine in Dornoch and opened it in the Millburn Distillery Premier Inn and was blown away by the quality for the price. Great to see it is widely available. I have tried the brothers own whisky as well (it is stunning for its age) and many of their independent bottlings and they can do no wrong for me!

Thanks for the review Andy. I'm half way through my second bottle of this and will definitely be replacing it again. It will be interesting to see how it evolves in later batches with the solera system they are using

Great review, Andy! Can't agree more with you on your tasting notes. The only thing I don't get are the light smoky notes. But the slight waxy impressions, the malty sweetness and citrus notes are all in my notes, too. Great mouthfeel. Lucky enough to get this in Germany for €37 (my second bottle) - and as you said, at that price and value for money it's a no brainer. Cheers.

About Dilution, if an aged whisky (the more oil it has, the higher the effect) has water added too fast, it can lead to saponification, the formation of a soapy character. I believe that's also how you make soap as it's the same molecule. Now, how slow you have to dilute it is another question!
