FYI Malta is an island republic......sure we were colonised by practically everyone....so I'm a Maltese who owns a Maltese lol. Good to mention that they don't shed but their coat should be kept short if you have a busy schedule....that flowing coat you see in shows takes alot of work. I take mine to the groomer every two months....Malta has a very warm climate so a short coat is really the best solution. They don't shed which is awesome and NEVER let them jump off furniture because they are fearless and can get hurt. Their bones are fragile. Never taught mine to go down the stairs either. Then again I am mostly at home so my Lily goes potty on the balcony in her special tray. I can tell you straight off....if you live somewhere hot dry and dusty ...or where it rains alot.......get ready to do a lot of bathing if you take them out. They can be fussy eaters or pigs lol but stick to dye free dry food which helps with preventing tear stains. Clean the eyes once a day and you won't have tear stain problems...a cotton pad and some warm water keeps those stains at bay. Do not take them for walks on hot days especially if you walk on the pavement...they are close to the ground and the heat will be too much for them....opt for the cooler hours of the day......yes that counts even i you have a garden.

My wife and I adopted a maltese a few years ago. Although she has never had any professional training, she is my therapy dog. I am a type 1 diabetic and she can sense if my blood sugar levels are off, even before I know. She is so therapeutic, loving, loyal and calming. I highly recommend a Maltese for anyone looking for a new member of the family!

I’ve had two Maltese, the first a Rescue who went to doggie heaven in 2009, and the second from a breeder. My second went to doggie heaven in July and I’m so sad and lonely without my baby. They were both so sweet, cute, loving & lovable, smart and cuddly. I loved them with all my heart and always will.

I never had a dog before and my niece got me in to getting a Maltese. I am not young but went for it. No regrets. He is 4 month old and been like 2 months since I got him. I train him myself from Vitoria Stillwell videos mainly and others. He learned quite a bit. Sometimes I sleep on carpet and he sleeps almost hugging me. Really love him

I have 2 Maltese.. they are the most loving beautiful Angels. They are both females. One loves the rain puddles and mud and swimming in the pond we have she hunters frogs! She is my mermaid. The other is my ballerina princess! She does not like getting her feet wet or the rain or mud! They are the sweetest little things they greet everyone at the door like they have know the person all there lives. We also have a Shepard and the Ballerina Princess is the Alpha, she weighs 4 pounds, my Shepard weighs 110. And he listens to her !!! LOL Anyway I. So many ways they are just not dogs, they are angels, extremely smart, they teach you how to communicate with them. I can’t imagine my world without a Maltese. 😊

We tried to keep our two Maltese in show coat for about the first 6 months of their lives. But, we were living on Guam at the time. The lower couple of inches of their coats became stained by the red soil that was constantly wet during the rainy season. Once back in CONUS we found the puppy cut more practicle.

When I got my Maltese boy he had bad red stains. My free time almost spent on watching youtube videos and googling :). I trimmed as much as I could and started using Angles wipes. It helped to some extent but I clean his eyes whenever I see dirt and also make sure his hair is not falling in his eyes. Now he got no stains at all.
