Not only that, but every villain, except Frieza, literally toyed around with towns. Vegeta and Nappa attacked towns. The androids in the alternate future attacked towns. Cell attacked towns. And as you mentioned, Fat Buu attacked towns. To assume that Super Buu was different, or had a technique designed to kill every person on Earth all at once, is expecting a lot out of Piccolo. If anything, Piccolo dropped the ball only when Super Buu was absorbing Gotenks and himself. He used to have the mindset that a battle wasn't over until they absolutely knew it was over, so him just becoming carefree and not paying attention to his surroundings was definitely on him. However, his assumption of the Supreme Kai's power was overly inflated, which likely made him more reckless during the Buu saga. But gotta give him credit... trapping himself in another dimension with Buu, while reckless, was a smart idea, just a shame it loses any depth and impact when Buu can just break dimensional barriers.

Honestly Piccolo had multiple really good plans and got screwed this arc. He trained got Gotenks up to snuff to finish off Buu except surprise surprise the children acted childish. But even then his backup of destroying the entrance and trapping them all was a good save the world sacrifice (that wouldn't even have been necessary if Gotenks wasn't dicking around). Evil Buu just did literally the impossible. When he told Buu to kill all the people he wasn't unaware that Buu was capable of doing it quickly, but he assumed Evil Buu was sadistic and just wanted to toy with his food. Not unlike every other character in the series. It was meant as "go have fun killing peeps while I figure out a plan C" with the understanding they'd all be revived using the dragon balls. Piccolo was so sad this arc really. He just got yeeted everyone else's mess. Sucks that the power scaling had gotten so out of hand even he was basically useless.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it was Gohan's fault Buu was released. Gohan's sloppy fight with Dabura because of his lack of training for 7 years caused Vegeta to get pissed off to the point that Dabura saw an opportunity which he took by informing Babidi. That created Majin Vegeta who ended up being the cause of Buu's release, so it boils down to Gohan being at fault since he's the reason we got Majin Vegeta in the first place. MalsWRLD was actually cooking here.

Plague of Gripes sums up the problem pretty well with Gohan and a little fraction of it with Goten. Pretty much Gohan shouldve retraced his father's steps or something because neither Goku or Piccolo are martial arts teachers. They're great combat teachers but thats it. Martial Arts is self improvement and enlightenment. Its a spirtual exercise as well as physical. All Gohan ever knew was bloodshed, violence, destruction and death since he was 4. No shit the guy hates fighting. Guy's been stuck in battles that make the war crimes of WW2 look like a joke. Goku didnt face any real grief from fighting until Tambourine killed Krillin. All of his friends and family were introduced from martial arts. As much of a jackass that Roshi can be at times. Hes still a wise, sagely man that put people on the right path. He couldve put Gohan on a better path. The whole next generation spiel Goku was on about was stupid because he made no real effort to prepare the next gen in the first place. Fucking Batman does a better job of making his apprentices, self-sufficient and he lets kids fight with him in the streets.

Vegeta was a fraud the entire Android Saga and a lot of Namek when he kept saying he was going to be a Super Saiyan or that after Dende healed him he *was* a Super Saiyan when he obviously wasn't. It's clear he was getting burnt out, he was just writing Gohan in high school, there was gonna be a tournament, and he still hadn't thought of a villain yet. That's why the writing is such a mess. Shin didn't tell anyone Buu could absorb people because it was retconned. Only just before the planet explodes and he's a kid again does he explain that's his true and most dangerous form. And speaking of retcons, SSJ3 was a big one considering Goku had stated he used his maximum power on the lookout. He literally wrote that transformation in at the last minute probably because he knew it'd help with merchandising with the anime or something. It's basically the only thing cool about the entire arc. Fusion is a cool concept but this arc just didn't feel like the one for it, as it accomplished basically nothing in the end. It temporarily made them able to compete with Buuhan, but that's still not a W if ultimately you get your planet blown up anyway

Goku is the goat and he had the right idea but the truth is his plan is just horribly done. He trained Gohan for 1 year but he never once communicate to Gohan about his plan to make Gohan fight Cell. Later after Cell defeated he still pass on the torch to Gohan when he already knows that Gohan do not like fighting. In Buu Saga he planned for the boys to take that role but fail to realize they were just kids and its their first serious battle that lead to their doom. When I look from this perspective now I think I understand why Goku decide to train Uub because Uub actually enjoy fighting unlike Gohan, and he is able to had real training from Goku to prepare him from falling to the exact same path as Goten and Trunks did.

Tbh I can’t even blame Chi-Chi for Gohan. I genuinely think he’s a fraud this arc. He gets one of the top 5 power ups in all of Dragon Ball (like the strength increase from weaker than Dabura to stronger than Super Buu is insane) and proceeds to do the same thing that got his father killed in the Cell fight. Then he just forgets he can fly and misses the Potara, only for no one in the story to acknowledge he exists past this point (they had Porunga and never thought to figure out a way to get Gohan back in the battlefield).

Also gohan gets way too much hate for not catching the potara because not only was this man injured after getting his ass beat, Goku decided to toss a tiny ass ring at gohan from miles away instead of just handing it to him like a normal person, he never needed to throw it and fuckiing hasd instant transmission. people shit on gohan for that but its really all on goku

Dude threw that frog with aimbot accuracy to stop Ginyu from switching bodies with vegeta even while injured. There was so much time for goku to give gohan the earring it's insane of how lucky the z fighters can be to get away with theses mess ups

1:50 Goku should've packed in some heat there. Cuz on one hand, if Goku used SSJ 3, Vegeta's gonna go get a mental breakdown into a literal vegetable. And on the other hand, SSJ 3 Goku's mad leaking with Ki so Buu would just pull up anyway And if Goku fought Fat Buu and Buu survived long enough, thede ain't nobody gonna go and be able to pull up cuz Goten and Trunks wouldn't know the fusion dance. Goku in the Buu saga had enough of that risky Gambling. He out there doing mad play's.

You pretty much sum up my entire frustrations with the Buu Saga. Like did they not learn anything from Cell. Hell this is why characters like Future Trunks and #17 during the Tournament of Power are Goats because they know what's at stakes and get the job done. Also Rest in Piece Akira Toriyama. For Creating a Foundation of all time.
