Ma'am Ekam Sharanam - my understanding is that the Lord advices us to abandon all external distractions and dive deep into self which is none other than The Lord Himself. I don't think he is going to come in person to help us if we don't sincerely surrender to self or Atman.

Bhagavad Gita - from which the captiined line is taken for discourse - has several commentators, most famous ones being Sankara, Ramanuja and Madhva. The commentaries themselves have further elaborations called Kaarikaas, Vrittis, etc. They are all in Sanskrit. Some of them are in India's regional languages - Tsmil, Kannada, etc. The great Bhashya-s with their further explanatory works take different viewpoints and the same truth appears to have different meanings but they really do not conflict with one anotger. Understanding of the three basic works will be greatly helped by One gets a better and better understanding of the spiritual truths by studying at least some of them or their sbridged versiins. Study of at least 2 or 3 clarificatiry works of each of the three main texts of Ramanuja, Madhva and Sankara) can bc facilitated by approaching genuine, learned Acharya-s and discourses by TRADITIIONAL master. scholars.
