I appreciate both your positivity and honesty in your reviews.👍 Even before hearing your review I was thinking I would go for the chicken & dumplings and the yams! 😀 I googled Mama Dip's because I've never heard of them. Website after website spoke of their legendary chicken. However, there are also local news reports that the family is selling this location, planning on downsizing, and switching to a take out busineess model. As a restaurant veteran, I've seen many a business slip just a bit once they decide to sell or downsize. So who knows??? Thanks for a fun review!

I would hate to see them go out of business all together. Hopefully they will make the right move for the business and family. In our opinion the chicken was just average, but everyone has different taste. I am wanting to try Gus's Fried Chicken. Have you ever had chicken from there? I know they have locations in Memphis, Knoxville, and Kentucky. David and Carly were huge fans of the chicken and dumplings. Thanks for your comment! Appreciate you watching!

Thanks! It is called Brownsville Market and it is actually in Crozet just outside of Charlottesville. They do a lot of business so the chicken is fresh. A guy I worked with had recommended to me and he was right on point. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Lovely share,I wonder if there is profit there, they seem to serve "real" portions of homely food, something that properly fills you up, but as said, they seem to serve 3X the portions we get in restaurants here in Switzerland. Thanks again for an informative and entertaining review

Have been to Mama Dip’s before and enjoyed my visits. Cindy mention the cookbooks and I own a couple of her cookbooks. Even had the privilege of meeting and talking to Mama Dip. The restaurant is based on Southern cooking and that’s what appealed to us. It’s been a few years but everything we had when there was good. I remember your Dad getting pork chops which he raved over. The day y’all visited may have been an “off day”. Appreciate your honest review; no sugar-coating your remarks. That’s exactly what a viewer of your channel desires!

Might have to try the porkchops next time. Carly and David were huge fans of the chicken and dumplings. We try to keep it honest. Definitely not a bad review but need be honest about our experience. Glad you had good experiences there. So cool that you were able to meet Mama Dip!

This is how a review is supposed to be done. It was very fair, balanced, and honest. That's what people deserve and what they want to see, before they decide whether or not to go to a place. I appreciate how you all pointed out what was good, what was exceptional, and what needed improvement. That helps others who might wish to go there, to know what to get, and what maybe to avoid. I think I would definitely get the yams and the cobbler, but I would probably go with the fried pork chop. Shawnasi loves chicken and dumplings, so that would definitely be a good option for her. Sounds like Carly would approve. It looks like a very nice place, but given how spoiled we have been with some great fried chicken at various places lately, I think I would go with the pork chop instead. I am curious where the best yams were?

The chicken and dumplings were David and Carly approved! They both really enjoyed that. You know how I am about hot food. The potatoes were not hot and they had just opened. So that did not set well from the beginning for me. It's a beautiful restaurant and the yams and peach cobbler were amazing! The best yams we ever had at a restaurant were at Lady and Sons in Savannah (Paula Deen's original restaurant). I see you put out a video about fried chicken from a place in Georgia. Hoping to watch that video tonight. It's been cold here and is going to be cold this week. Hope you had some warm weather in Georgia.

@@vafunseekers It was pretty chilly in GA, because we were in the mountains. Had a great time. Yes, nothing worse than mashed potatoes that are not hot. We actually have eaten at 2 great places in GA recently, and both had some of the best fried chicken anywhere. You are probably talking about The Smith House, because that was Friday. We also ate at The Dillard House and did a video, 3 weeks ago. Very similar restaurants. They both have outstanding fried chicken, and serve family style.

I've eaten at Mama Dip's twice and I completely agree with your assessment. We go to the hospital at Chapel Hill frequently and we love to go to Merritt's Grill. It's an old gas station from the 1930's turned grill (near the hospital). They are famous for their BLT's. They have 4 slices of bacon on the baby, 7 on a single, 9 on a double, and a pound of bacon on the triple. My husband and I usually get the baby BLT to split and that's a plenty for us. They do have other sandwiches, but you have to get the BLT!!

We DEFINITELY will have to put this on our list. David loves a BLT sandwich. It has to be good with all that bacon. Love that it was an old gas station that has been repurposed as a grill. We look forward to trying it. We also love hearing with someone has a similar experience as our review because it validates that it may not just be on that specific day. Now that's some good lookin chicken and dumplings! I'm sorry to hear your mashed potatoes were not piping hot and I agree cool potatoes are not too pleasant! I see they had chocolate pecan pie and if yall ever get around to it I 100% recommend yall trying a slice wherever it may be! I also see they have Brunswick Stew as well! Mama Dips may very well have some good Stew not sure but I bet they can't touch the Appomattox Stew Crew which is #1 in my book! Thanks for sharing and keeping the reviews honest as they should be! Really enjoyed the review- food looked good!! If ya'll get back to NC, would really enjoy a Review of Parkers BBQ in Wilson NC- it's a "throwback" of the past that takes cash only, has wood paneling, and the servers all wear paper hats. You can order Family Style, complete with Eastern NC style BBQ, fried chicken, BBQ boiled potatoes, yellow slaw, green beans, brunswick stew, hushpuppies & corn sticks. Cindy, I'm curious what you would think of the fried chicken & BBQ boiled potatoes, & David I'm curious what you would think of their "thick" brunswick stew with their cornsticks. This is one of the BBQ places we have looked at visiting. Love that it is a "throwback". I looked at the menu and I didn't see where you order family style, just where you order by the plate. Either way, we would like to try it. I have never heard of corn sticks before but understand that they are similar to hushpuppies. Have you ever been to the Skylight Inn? If so do you recommend going there? David and I were just talking today about how we want to get to more of the BBQ places in North Carolina. Was just in the area for medical appointments. Well, we were in Durham. HOWEVER, stopped at Steve's Smokehouse in Burlington as we left. Y'all should absolutely check it out! Such an awesome place. Combined with a market, everything is homemade and delicious!

I looked for it online. I see a Smokehouse at Steve's in Graham, NC. I looked up Graham and it said it's part of Burlington, so I think I have the right place. I love the show in the kitchen with David I live about a half an hour away from where they do the shows at and Friday December 1st QVC is hosting a huge Christmas parade in West Chester pa the parade brings in 50.000 plus people and they bring in like 20 different marching bands from pa Delaware Maryland and New Jersey and New York to March in the parade

It was definitely pricey for the chicken. If it hadn't been that it was their specialty I don't think I would have gotten it. David and Carly really enjoyed the chicken and dumplings. The peach cobbler and yams were outstanding. $8.95 a bowl sounded a little steep for the stew. Especially when David gets $10 a quart for the stew he makes, which will give two full bowls. wow, its kind of expensive it seems. i paused this at 3:13 and am about to watch the rest of the video. also, about the “back” issue (not mentioned here, but for her info)… go to chiropractor as my hubby just did the other day, and he is 100% better. he will do follow up back “cracks” and i also made an appointment as i need to be “cracked” too. its been a long time for me, so its time. 😊 ok, now back to the video.

It is definitely higher than what I'm used to paying for southern style food. As you can tell it was a mixed review here. Some good and some not so good. I have a chiropractor that is awesome! Just trying to avoid going if I can. I'm giving it another day to see how I'm feeling. It's getting better. Hopefully it will continue too improve.

@@vafunseekers i dont like going either,, im just shy and ticklish, lol. but if they can fix bryan (he’s a stout guy, and stiffens up when they work on him) then they can fix anyone. lol. go to the chiro either way, heck, make a video out of it as it may help to encourage others to go for pain. when bones and ligaments are all bound up, it will cause nerve damage. so, go and get cracked, make a video of it and thats an order young lady! lol. :-). btw, i have an appt for a cracking next week. first one in years.

@@vafunseekers yes, the neck for sure, since, as a kid i was thrown off a horse, later, thrown again, lol. then as a cop, punched so hard in the face i fell flat on my back (sucker punch, never expected it from this particular thug) that was years ago… so i needed a good neck and upper back crack. it freaks me out but then i leave being able to completely turn my head. they know how to do it safely.

Seems at those prices, taters & gravy should be hot, biscuits not feeling like yesterdays, and chicken tasty. The prices made my husband and me do a double take. Must think the well off college kids parents will be eating there…we wouldn’t though. Too many places with good size portions and made with love, and reasonable prices.

Absolutely! If it wasn't for wanting to try this famous fried-chicken I don't know if I would have went due to the prices. When we were there Coach Brown, the football coach at UNC was there eating. I think they do get some local celebrities that come in there from time to time. I will give them credit for the delicious yams and peach cobbler. Thanks for watching and commenting.

This is the type of place I call a "rip off." Nothing special about the food, small portions for what they charge, and those prices! $15 for a BLT, $21 for half a bbq or southern fried chicken? Outrageous. Your bill, not including tip, almost $60. You gotta admit that's a lot for what you got. Well Cindy, despite what you say, I bet you won't be back.

I definitely agree with you that it is high priced for what you get. There are some places that I go to that I know I will not go back. This is not on my list of "must" go backs but David and Carly did enjoy the chicken and dumplings. The restaurant is not near us or near a place that we travel to often, so I don't think we have to worry about going back anytime soon. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
