Imagine that but then also saying it's totally fine for her to film and during a contraction you just grab the nearest thing, which is the camera, and throw it at the wall😂😂😂 I've never been pregnant but after a lap surgery and IUD placement I had some really bad pain and my mom said that if she didnt know better she'd say I was having contractions- all I wanted to do was grad breakable stuff and throw it at the wall😂😂

I spoke to my midwife about this and she said if I end up with a male doctor on the day I can ask to have a female doctor instead if it makes me feel uncomfortable. Not guaranteed but they will try their best. She also said that they will provide me with extra support if I need it and are offering extra appointments to check in with my mental health. Not sure if that happens everywhere but it's what my hospital is doing for me.

@@scarlet702 I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. It's not most women but a lot more than those who haven't been abused would think. There is a lot of latency around this issue and it'd absolutely warrant ob/gyns taking it into account.

@Ash Ketchup I'm not worried they'll be traumatised. I'm concerned about how it reflects on myself and my husband when our children mimic that language. Parents are constantly under a microscope where we live and we'd be naive to not bear that in mind. Plus, I don't want my kids to not be invited to play with friends because their parents are worried about their kids might learn from mine.

I work in the UK and they removed 24 calls, the max is now 12-13 hours followed by at least 11 hours rest between shifts. Although when my parents were training 20 years ago, they had 72 hour calls... I can't imagine, as I find 12 hours quite intense

But UK system is very different. Usually a midwife is present by delivery physicians only when there is reason. Right? Or is It mandatory for OB to be present by every delivery? And BTW. I have a friend who is Ob-Gyn doctor and she start her weekend shift (once a month unless her coleagues have a problem) at 7 am on Friday and finished at 16pm on Monday. It is against the law But they dont usually deal with this stuff in Czech hospitals. The reason Why she is in job so long that they added a normal 8 hour shift to this weekend crazy shift. Its not “on call” she has to be whole time present in hospital. Responsible for Obsteric ward, gyn and even after birth and Ob-gyn emergency.

Actually I believe that the whole “your water can break due to changes in barometric pressure” is a real thing...I went into labor with my daughter last September two weeks early due to us getting the leftover remnants of a hurricane. The hospital staff told me that four other women also went into labor that same day because of the weather.

I'm an OB/GYN too in Spain, and it is so different for me to see a call day like this. In my hospital we are required to stay inside the hospital for 24h (public hospital) and we are required to attend every single birth that comes our way (no assigned doctor to patient, you get the on call one) so it is VERY different. Most of the normal vaginal deliveries are handled by midwives, so we just come in for anything out of the ordinary (I still like to keep an eye on everything progressing normally since I am in the hospital anyway). However, in my hospital we are 2 OB/GYNs and 3 CNMs on call during the full 24h so it is usually not too bad. I just got off a 24h call and we had 4 deliveries total (1 vaccum) and a lot of ER consults. We do have a resident most days, so they do most of the procedures and I just get to supervise them. PS: I agree with the hormonal IUDs, my patients are usually the happiest with them if they understand what they are getting before the insertion. The weather thing I'm not really sure, but I used to joke with a colleague about actually collecting data on full moon nights and people coming in for their water breaking, just as a joke lol

My stomach drops every time I realize I’m going to have to call one of them! Ha! Part of the reason I left. I miss doing LEEPs though. I loved to assist with those!

I'm very happy with my copper IUD! For me, the side effect of heavier periods was much better than the side effect of irregular or no periods. I'm not a huge fan of bleeding, but I really value that peace of mind!

harmonicaveronica I also really like my copper IUD, I was on the hormonal one and that one made me super super emotional. I was crying, laughing and angry all the time. I have irregular periods and with the copper IUD it made me have a normal monthly period 😂

I have a hormonal IUD and I'm glad to not have my period anymore😂 I mean, the whole point for me was to not get my period, which is why I got a hormonal IUD (endometriosis treatment) but I'm still relieved to not have my period anymore😂 But I definitely also understand the relief of knowing that you get your period! If it wasnt for my periods always being so bad I probably would be more anxious about not getting it at all😅

I’m kind of curious on how you deal with patients with severe anxiety around pelvic exams and Pap smears. I have extreme anxiety around these exams and usually have to work with my therapist weeks before a gyno exam or procedure in order to be able to get through it. I’ve fortunately have had mostly very patient doctors and nurses but I’ve had one doctor who did a surprise uterine biopsy on my witch kind of set my progress around my anxiety back.

With my twins my water broke at 35 weeks when tropical storm jaquin passed over us. No contractions up to that point. I think there is something to the pressure bottoming out.

Okay, I watched this video months ago and I remember you were seeing people in clinic and on call and I remember thinking, gosh wouldn’t that conflict if someone goes into labor while you have appts. I’m pregnant with #2 and currently sitting in the visit room waiting for my OB and they’ve shared that she was called away for a delivery at the hospital down the block and I immediately remembered this video. Instead of feeling put out at being un seen today I’m so thrilled that someone else is having a baby today and emotional at the idea that even when things conflict in this way it’s seriously for the best thing ever. Dr’s, midwives and nurses that help bring babies into the world are serious hero’s.

The IUD has been my life saver. I have severe dysmenorrhea that is out of this world... horrid constant vomiting from the days leading up to my period and the first few days (likei have to sleep by a trash can because projectvile period vomiting wakes me up in my sleep), uncontrollable cramps (norco and Percocet are the only things that help), dizziness, diarrhea... in the year my husband and I tried to conceive and I was off an IUD, it got so severe that my OBGYN did a urgently scheduled lap to look for endo which was negative.. we were all shocked. Turns out my hubby was born unable to have children and IVF isn’t even a possible option, only sperm donor or embryo adoption, so I got that sucker put back in and we are now foster-to-adopt parents to 2 precious babies. IUD’s are SO underrated. The first 6 months can be rough, but then the periods are soo light and non existent. I wish everyone needing birth control would try it! I wish I could be a spokes person for the Kyleena. My OBGYN and I have a deal that if we do not wish to pursue a sperm donor within the 5 years of me having the IUD, that she will agree to do a hysterectomy on me when it’s time to get it taken out. I will be 28 when that time comes and I’m counting down the years.... lol. I’ve seen her since I was 14 for periods that actually make me feel like I’m dying. She better not back out. lol

I love how real you are :) One comment on the IUDs - for those who don't know, they do prevent birth, but they don't necessarily prevent conception (At least the copper ones).

When I got my IUD, it was THE WORST. I got home and an hour later I threw up from the pain. I made the mistake of getting it the Friday before my cousins wedding (next day) that was a 4 hour car ride away...that was the worst car ride ever full of cramps and pain, and as I cant take NSAIDS, tylenol didn't help. Thank god for Zofran though!! I made it through the wedding (woo) but had to call it quits halfway through the reception I was in so much pain. The car ride back on Sunday was just as bad, but it slowly got better though the week. But here I am 2 years later, and I LOVE IT. So, the beginning sucks, but the result is worth it. Yay for no periods!

I got Mirena about 3 months ago now. I naturally have awful super heavy periods that are very painful. Got on the pill to help with that when I was probably 13, after being on it for a few years it just wasn’t controlling my periods like it used to. Then I got the implant which did not work for me at all, I bled for 6 months. 1st month I had the iud I had my first on time period in probably 2 years. Have only dealt with a little spotting. Wish I would have just gotten the iud instead of the implant, my only reason for this was because I was freaked out about how it is inserted. Thanks to an amazing ob/gyn at my local health department it was a breeze! Love that you are out here educating us!

Baby #3 on a copper IUD with perfect placement over here!! 👋 the IUD string had been cut very short and migrated into my cervix and it required manual cervical dilation to remove under ultrasound guidance. But my doctor got it and baby made it through unharmed, which was our prayer and desire. I was 8 months postpartum. Definitely a blessing and can’t imagine our family without her.

Many of us appriciate seeing things from your point of view. I know personally I have a tenancy to feel like my doctor(s) don't take the time to actually care about us. Specially when the appointments just breeze by and many of us feel unheard. We don't really think about the 50 other patients you see a day. Thank you for your videos and information.

I feel you on the breastmilk. I tended to over produce and had a freezer full of milk. I cried so hard when power was lost to the freezer, ruining over a gallon of expressed milk. 😭

Omg so the pressure changes bringing on babies is such a true thing. I’m not a nurse or anything, but I live on a ranch and like a good 60-70% the animals have their babies in the middle of big storms, and like if we see a storm coming on the forecast we know we’re going to have to stay up all night to keep checking everyone in case there’s problems, so the idea that humans are the same way makes so much sense

I learned with my last baby that it pays to get pregnant when it's NOT the holidays because lots of women get pregnant then and so it's way harder to find parking 9.5 months after those holidays. Last time I got pregnant in November and then I was always able to find parking for my checkups at the hospital in the last month of the pregnancy, whereas I always had to park like kilometre away and walk over with the huge belly with my other ones. Save it for the middle of the semester ladies!

I have the mirena, it was absolutely painless for me to have put in. Little to no cramping after. But I have a friend who had the copper IUD and she told me she literally cried because it hurt so bad!😳 And we both have had multiple babies, I agree it definitely depends on the person! I don't know how you keep up with it all! I have 3 kids 3 and under, but I'm a work at home mom and I still feel busy! You're my hero!

The Merena messed me up. Constant pain. Nearly non stop bleeding/spotting for a year. Cramps from hell. Super heavy, long periods. My hormones and emotions were everywhere, driving me to a near mental break. These things were never listed as side effects anywhere or mentioned to me when I was getting it. I had it in for about 3 years because I wasn't in a position to switch birth control. The lady who took it out didn't seem to concerned, said it was placed correctly and didn't see any problems. I had it taken out almost 2 years ago now and my hormones have finally evened out again. My period is now super regular and even much lighter than before I got the iud. I rarely had cramps before getting it and don't have them anymore now that it's out, but while it was in, there would be times It was so bad my whole body would tense up and I couldn't move. I've since heard and talked with other women who went through the same. Wish my health care providers had let me know these things could happen. They painted a rosy picture of no periods or cramps and clear glowing skin

Thank you for explaining the IUDs, I’m waiting for a consultation with the endometriosis specialist (the wait lists in Scotland are a year + some places mostly because you can count the number of them on one hand in the country). My primary care docs been really great at dealing with things, I’ve been on the contraceptive pill (so many of them) but nothing much is working much anymore. No ones really bothered explaining it to me, I didn’t realise it was so easy to put in and take out which puts my mind at rest, I was scared of getting something that if it really doesn’t work we couldn’t get back out easily. So thanks!

I love your videos because you show people that doctors are people too. That they have a life away from their office.Your kids are great. I never had children by choice. But you balance everything. I sat naked wearing a paper daily and covered in a too small sheet for an hour and a half. Finally my Dr comes in and says after 5 children you'd think she would know how to push. Keep up with the v logs if you can. They're great.
