I have so much respect for Jin for not hitting his child, even if it's just lightly. There's been plenty studies stating it's actually better (and even affective) to use our words on kids than hit.

So to 50:10, can we not reconsider our options to share certain emotions or 'burdens' with our kids? To be able to feel happy, shouldn't one also be able to feel sad too? There can't always be happiness if one doesn't know how to differentiate it from being sad. If we are always quick to resort to the cane only because we don't know how to express ourselves to our little ones, why should we expect our kids to apply any understanding to us?

i used to get whacked or even pinched by my parents and auntie (guardians) because they follow their parents footstep (my grandparents). but i think at some point, my parents noticed when i turned to 12 and saw my behaviour and my elder brother becoming aggressive as we grow, my parents changed their way of discplining to us; talk more to us, spend more time with us, bonding time, etc...no more whacking. damn im glad they did. after about 10 years when i was cleaning the room, i saw alot of books about parenting and how to talk to children. too bad my aunt still disagree about my parents' change but i do not have any grudge on her as she took care of us when my parents are working. imo, parents are responsible for their children attitude for the upbringing

After my dad whacked me, he never explains why he whacked me - I was the one who reasoned out with him; my mummy used the rotan to like “scared” me if my sister and I did something wrong. I grew up with my grandparents (mummy’s parents), my grandpa is a retired teacher so he used to whack me a lot. My grandma, on the other hand, if she see grandpa whacking any of the granddaughters, she would run up and reasoned with him that we were still young, use another approach to discipline us. I have to agree with Ryan on the canning part in Chinese schools. Every time a teacher canned a classmate, I knew I had to perfect myself to get the work done.
