It took Mamamoo 626 days (1 year 8 months 16 days) to get their 1st music show win on Mar 6, 2016. From Jan 2018 to Aug 2019, Mamamoo had a project called 4 Seasons 4 Colors. Each member is responsible for one season/color. Released on Mar 7, 2018 > Spring = Yellow Flower = Hwasa > title track: ‘Starry Night’. The album includes a Hwasa’s solo track: ‘Be Calm’ Released on Jul 16, 2018 > Summer = Red Moon = Moonbyul > title track: ‘Egotistic’. It includes a Moonbyul’s solo track: ‘Selfish’ Released on Nov 29, 2018 > Fall = Blue;s = Solar > title track: ‘Wind Flower’. It includes a Solar’s solo track: ‘Hello’ Released on Mar 14, 2019 > Winter = White Wind = Wheein > title track ‘gogobebe’. It includes a Wheein’s solo track: ‘25’

I agree that Mamamoo is a group of Women while most other female groups seem like girls even if they are the same age as Mamamoo. Plus they are just so confident in themselves and their abilities which is well deserved. They are the only female K-pop group I watch. They deserve so much more.

Their first music show win with You're the Best was in 2016, almost two years after their debut. You're the Best was their 4th title track. The 4 Season 4 Color series is much more complex than her brief description but that's not a criticism - it would take a long video to explain the concepts involved and how they played out in the four albums, title tracks & MVs. In brief, each album had a theme season & color, each member was assigned to a color and did a self-composed solo song on "her" album with the album title referring to the color and the member in one way or another. Ku was correct about the member & color/season assignments. Each title track was about a stage of love in a four part relationship cycle that matched the season & color. Here's a summary: Yellow Flower album: Spring/Yellow. Title track: Starry Night. Emotional stage: Attraction. Hwasa's solo song: Be Calm. Red Moon album: Summer/Red. Title track: Egotistic. Emotional stage: Passion. Moonbyul's solo song: Selfish. Blue;S album: Fall/Blue. Title track: Wind Flower. Emotional stage: Heartbreak. Solar's solo song: Hello. White Wind album: Winter/White. Title track: Gogobebe. Emotional stage: Innocent or Unattached. Wheein's solo song: 25. It's obvious that Red Moon refers to Moonbyul but you might be wondering about the other album titles. Hwa is a Sino-Korean word for flower so Hwasa's EP is Yellow Flower. The S in Blue;S refers to Solar. Whee is the sound of wind in Korean so White Wind is Wheein's album. You might also be asking why White signifies Innocent or Unattached. This is actually the first stage, corresponding to the innocence of childhood before sexual awakening or a blank slate. But later in life as a stage in an ongoing cycle it also represents the time you're between relationships. Winter is the perfect match as a season - a necessary time of emotional hibernation. They began the series in Sping with Attraction but since the seasons and relationship phases are cyclical it doesn't matter when you start. Aus's association of Red with Blood & Death is totally fine but in the 4S4C project Red = Passion as a stage of love. In the Egotistic MV each member expresses different Red personality traits and if you were in the group yours would probably just be more bloody and violent lol. Maybe you'd have the jaguar rip him to shreds, run him over with the car, toss him off the balcony, or tie him to Solar's pole and burn his butt instead of his guitar. Maria is the name Hwasa took when she was baptized as a Catholic. Mamamoo+ is the only official subunit but there have been other unofficial subunits. Wheein & Hwasa released a song that was written just for them called Loving One Person. Back in 2016 on MMM's Memory album Solar & Wheein (aka the Angel Line) did a song called Angel and Moonbyul & Hwasa (aka the Rapper Line) did one called Dab Dab. Nice of you to wish Wheein a happy birthday. As moomoos like to say, Once you Wheein you can't Whee-out!

I'm surprised egotistical is passion, it seems very much like an "I'm already checked out of the relationship" song.

@@alinasmith5737 The colors and stages of the relationship cycle are laid out in Paint Me. In Paint Me a volcano symbolizes passion as sexual love but in Egotistic that passion fuels their feelings of rage about the breakuip. "I'm already checked out" implies that they're over it but I think the song bursts out of their pent up feelings like a volcano. I think that idea is symbolized musically in the intro where their song springs from the passion & duende at the core of flamenco guitar. As I mentioned, in the MV each member expresses different Red/Passionate personality traits and emotions - Hwasa is wild & fierce, Moonbyul is angry, Solar is sensual and provocative, and Wheein is a hot-tempered, vindictive badass bitch on wheels with short fuse and a taste for arson lol. Before "checking out" their passion needs to run through several stages: Anger (Moonbyul tosses chair), Defiance (Hwasa stares down the jaguar), and Revenge (Wheein burns his guitar) before finally achieving Liberation (Solar flies on the pole). That's my take on it but of course it's just my opinion and your mileage may differ. :)

Fwiw, I wrote a fairly long comment, pausing and answering your questions as you asked them, but it didn't post for some reason and I'm not going to rewrite it. Besides the 4 Season 4 Color title tracks I'd also recommend checking out the song & MV for Paint Me, which is the 4S4C theme song. Paint Me introduces most of the major concepts and cyclical symbolism used throughout the project. It was a pre-release single from the first 4S4C album Yellow Flower and it's got a deceptively simple MV that's worth pondering. Nice of you to wish Wheein a happy birthday. Wheein is currently on her first solo world tour and will be in the US in May and June for 8 shows. If you want to see her you should check ticket availability soon - she's playing relatively small venues ranging from under 1000 to about 3K so there's a good chance some shows will sell out. Moonbyul has also started a world tour but US dates haven't been announced yet.

Damn, I'm first. I can act like kids nowadays. 😅 This is one of the best if not the best Mamamoo video, btw. The beauty standards are for Korea, not only for Kpop. The Music Shows a weekly thing and every group can compete if they're charting in good, and have good physical sales. So, it's not really easy, especially if they're small agency groups. The 4season EP's for each member are like this: Solar: Blue, Moonbyul: Red, Wheein: White and Hwasa is Yellow.

@@KPopOnLock You're welcome. BTW Maria is Hwasa's baptismal name. HIP, Maria and LMM are basically a sequel for each other, and all 3 song are about haters. Thankfully, when you will watch those-MV's you can understand the lyrics, because there are English subs. I don't know if you're planning to react to it, but I recommend to check out "INTRODUCING MAMAMOO! Part 1-2" if you want to know more about them as persons. I think when you start watching their variety shows too, there's now way, because they're so enterntaining. I could share like 100 videos, but I don't want to spam your comment sections, and YT probably would delete my comment because of the links. 😅 There are 4 videos that are the most important ones, probably. Killing Voice, this one, and a 2 Part indtroduction vids. As for their music journey, I recommend their 14 performance on Immortal Songs (and their medly) but be aware, YT don't like it that much. Maybe you can put it on Patreon or something if you have any. Their 1st performance was 6 months after their debut so you can see their development clearly as muscians, because it happened between 2015-2019.

Music Shows: there is a different one for each weekday, and on 6 of them, you can win an award. Kpop groups usually promote for 2 weeks, so in theory, they would have 12 chances to win an award. The criteria for winning or even getting to perform can be different for each show. Usually, metrics like votes, streams, or album sales are involved. They wore the Teletubbies outfits because they were told to wear "costumes". It was a bit of a misunderstanding but they decided to roll with it ❤ If you're interested in the more korean pronunciation of their names, this might help: Solar is more or less pronounced as [soul-lah]. Moonbyul as [moon-byeol] where "byeol" is 1 syllable, and sounds a bit like "doll". Wheein as [we-in]. Hwasa as [wa-sa]. If you're looking for a guide, Mamamoo so happens to have one of the best and funniest out there. It's the (re-uploaded) one from PurpleHawk. I definitely recommend it. "Maria" is Hwasa's baptismal name.

As I understand it pretty doesn't mean the same thing as attractive in Korea. For them, pretty has a list of specific criteria. I've heard conversations where they describe the perfect group as all the same height, face and body type. When I first got into K-pop, I was frustrated, not being able to tell members apart in large groups. I started watching Mamamoo because they were only four, and four individuals. Then I found out how amazingly talented they are.

You are talking about how pretty they are, but instead think of feminine. The women are expected to be ultra feminine, which includes looks as well as actions and clothing. In a country where many of the men are pretty (and a compliment to men in S Korea) of course their range for “gender neutral” is different than ours. Also, you make it sound like gender neutral can’t be pretty, it almost sounded like you are saying that tomboys and gender neutral is for unattractive people. I don’t think that is what you meant but it is what you said. Remember that as a democracy, South Korea is young. Our feminism started many years before their independence. A woman was just beaten up there by a stranger for having short hair. He called her a feminist and beat her on camera in a store where she worked. When another man tried to help her, he hit him too saying that he should be helping him. Even though their actions or the way they look doesn’t seem extreme to us, it is for them. Even other women criticize them for rocking the boat. Ty for showing this! You guys are great.

Dato curioso: la empresa de mamamoo estaba en quiebra y como no tenía presupuesto para casi nada como un coreografo (lo dijeron en el video) o un maquillista, por ello las chicas se tenian que maquillar ellas misma y tambien en sus presentaciones en show, tenian que alquilarse trajes o usar sus propias ropas.
