I helped my wife with this for both pregnancies. She had a rough first 1 and a really bad second. Could hardly move for days. I made her “super pads” put the ointment on and all that. Cleaned the blood. The birth of our children was the greatest, hardest, toughest things we’ve been through but I would help her all over again. Yes fellas it’s not pretty to see, the aftermath is hard to see but I’ll never let her go through anything alone. Suck it up fellas. Help your woman.

will it hurt? absolutely! the kind and length of pain varies (natural labor vs. induced, natural birth vs c-section, episiotomy needed vs not needed) but htere will be some. But I can assure you that it will all be worth it and unlike the love you will have for our child, pain cannot be remembered. I was in a lot of pain and had a lot of complications but I do not remember the pain itself, only that I was in pain. Regardless I would have done it all over again.

My first trip into the bathroom after my c-section I was so embarrassed. I told the nurse I would clean up the floor. I started hemorrhaging in recovery and the doctor was called in. After awhile everything stopped. I stood up to go to the bathroom with the help of two nurses because of the amount of bloodloss, a huge clot slide right out. It looked like raw liver. I was mortified. I was crying and hurting and the nurses were so sweet. They even explained that the medicine they gave me in recovery was the reason and it was good.

I helped my wife through this, can confirm most guys overreact about how bad they have it. I helped my wife walk, cleaned everything for her, got her all her food and snacks and whatever she wants. It was really easy and nice. Needless to say she's only getting more beautiful every day and our baby is the light of my life

Tip for people who are pregnant. Your first pee. If you end up tearing upwards instead of downwards. I’m talking from your v to you cl*t that you end up tearing. The upside peri bottles suck. You’ll probably love the hospitals one. And lean backwards to make the pee run back. I always heard about tearing from v to a. And it took quite a bit of pain before I learned how to properly handle my kind of tear.

i just gave birth to my daughter yesterday, tore all around. the hospital bottle is a god send. good thing i heal pretty quick so I'm not in as much pain and can walk, shower, and even poo without help or pain. but my nurses are amazing, they will talk, explain, and do everything they can to make sure i know what's going on, what i need to do, and how. also helps the husband is right there with me and helping me out as much as he can. plus, he is so in love with his little girl❤❤❤

The Frida after birth kit is worth the $50. The ice pads and foam witch hazel are life savers. Also, adult diapers instead of mesh underwear with the monster pads are more discreet and comfortable and you can feel a bit more human with them 😊

Yes to the diapers!! A couple days after my first birth I moved wrong; the adhesive from one of the pads had bunched up funny, stuck to my stitches, & then ripped off 😵‍💫 it was adult diapers from then on & all through my second kid lol

My first bathroom visit after giving birth I fainted. I had lost a ton of Blood and was having a hard time staying conscious and was vomiting. The nurses insisted I tried walking to the bathroom, and they helped me there, but as soon as I turned to sit down I fainted and fell hard onto the toilet. They put smelling salts under my nose and when I became conscious, there was Blood all over the bathroom, the door, the toilet, the nurses scrubs. I wish they had listened to me when I told them I wasn't ready.

Right after my c-section, I asked a nurse if she could wipe me off before I put my pad/underwear on. I felt so uncomfortable and I didn’t know if I could do it myself. She did it without a thought and I will always remember how grateful and cared for I felt. That was just one nurse in a 6 day stay. Forget the “super pads” and the mesh panties. I hated wearing those so much. My midwife recommended getting a small package of adult diapers. They accomplished the same task but were leak free and much more comfortable. And by the time you’ve used up the small package you don’t need them anymore. Also, the best advice for that first postpartum #2: sometimes your body has a hard time letting it out because your subconscious brain says, “the last time I pushed something out it was 7 lbs and a little traumatizing.” So get some toilet paper in your hand and apply gentle pressure to your vulva. This will help your subconscious brain say, “it’s okay, what happened last time isn’t going to happen this time,” and it helps your body allow the bowls to move.

No one warned me that during the first shower, when you've finally been allowed to get up(I had emergency C section) you could and probably would pass blood clots the size of baseballs. I pulled that emergency cord so fast lol. The nurse on duty was in there in a hot minute and looked at everything and said. Looks good and normal if it's bright red and flowing, then worry. I was kinda appalled at the huge mess tho lol But after that shower I didn't have any more giant ones like that.

I was told this, but not how to nurse. I kept asking but I was totally ignored. After I got home-24 hours later, not 48, I was so frustrated and so was my son. The only advice they gave me was “Whatever you do, just don’t give him a bottle”. Really? I eventually gave up, gave him a bottle, and my sweet husband helped me not to feel guilty about it. I wish I’d had the internet when I had my kids!

@kellyanne7225 I had a horrible la Lache league lady who tried to just strong arm me about breast feeding. I just called my sister amd she helped since she breast fed. But in 80s almost no one wanted you to breast feed. My mother and grandmother were appalled. Only poor people breast fed. 🤦‍♀️ But in their defense I could only have goat milk. Couldn't digest cow milk well as a baby. My daughter breastfed til 6 months both the older grandkiddos cuz of her job. But when the baby accidentally popped out here(the older 2 are 12 and 15. Mr man is 3)she owned her own business and I was the full-time day care for him too and she breast fed until 2 1/2. He still would if she let him. Hes healthy and huge and I wish that more information was around but at least I could help my daughter. Like no one taught me how to break suction when she didn't want to let go but was done etc. My sister helped a lot.

Same! I had 3 epidurals and emergency forceps delivery after the midwives literally forgot about me! And zero aftercare! Didn't even get a health visitor come see me until I had to remind them I had stitches and then after than NOTHING! Had to learn everything myself and deal with baby when I couldn't walk unaided for 3 weeks due to the epidurals causing nerve damage which I still have issues with 13 years later... I don't understand why in this day and age women are still not recieving proper care and guidance after having a baby!

I have zero desire to have a child and everyone I know has either had kids or has no intention of having children at all. But I really appreciate this kind of information being so easily available and people so openly and frankly discussing things that are so easily overlooked and/or people feel embarrassed about. The aftercare for childbirth is too frequently a topic that gets very little attention. I personally think people should be prepared and know at least kind of what to expect is going to happen beforehand.

28 years ago, I blood-trailed to the bathroom, because I forgot to put my pad between my legs & waddle into the bathroom..I was barely 19, and in all my pain & anxiety, I forgot the “rules” the CNA had given me. CNA walked in, saw the blood, and stopped me to stand there and drip, as she scolded me, loudly, firmly, & continuously, in front of my husband, my roommate, & her husband! All I could do was stand there in a growing puddle and cry. I’ve been an RN for almost 20 years, and have had a lot of “inconvenient” messes to clean up, but I have NEVER treated anyone like she did that 19 year old child who was scared and in pain! To this very day, I wish I could look her in the eye and tell her how miserable and evil of a person she had to have been. I hope she changed, because I’m sure I was not the only human being that she publicly degraded & humiliated. Kindness is always free!

My mother had a similar nurse. She was in alot of pain after she had me. I was a good sized baby and her first one, I got stuck so they had to pull me out. In the process I broke her tailbone. She asked for more pain meds as well I broke her butt and was mocked instead. Some nurses should not be L&D nurses

​@@nataliekenny7490 there actually is studies on this. it has been proven that a good birthing experience will likely make women forget about the actual pain of labor and rate it pretty low awhile after birth. however if a woman has a bad experience (bad doctors, nurses, etc..) they will likely rate the pain highly even years after birth, unlike the women who have had good births. pretty interesting !

Wow, I'm sorry that the nurses didn't help you. I didn't know about it either, but my nurse gave me a whole kit and explained what to do. How to clean myself, put the padding etc. I don't know why women who have already been through childbirth don't help their friends or family by letting them know in advance. I have a problem with incontinence as a senior citizen. I think this could be a great temporary solution to the times my diaper deliveries are delayed and I possibly run out. I also get an itch now and then. The Tucks might help with that as well. I do have a cream but the Tucks sound like they may help as well.

Is this video what commonly happened after natural childbirth? I had a cesarean at 19yo and never had another. I don't understand why the mother would need a regular pad much less that? Why would the mother be bleeding so much? Edit: Regarding nurses helping you: I always tell soon to be mothers to let the nurses take the baby as much as possible. I had complications for days after my cesarean so I barely saw my son. Once home, I was so thankful I had those days of rest.

Maybe if they knew exactly what happened to their bodies during and after pregnancy there would be less teen pregnancies. Also, I believe a lot of mothers don't tell their daughters what to expect. My mother told me nothing my body. She never even explained periods. She left that to the school, which also told us next to nothing (this was in the 80s and some of the first sex Ed classes in our area). Luckily I was at a friend's house and her mother's explained it.

The nurse who helped me get to the bathroom the first time after labor was such a sweetheart. She turned the faucet on for me and was very impressed with the peri bottle I had bought that pointed upward (highly reccomend, baby frida brand). Then the next nurse who took over gave me the side eye for asking for Tylenol when I had stitches for a 2nd degree tear 😂😂

When I gave birth to my 2nd child, the floor was so full when I got over to the mother baby unit that they basically came in said hi, took our vitals, and left. I had an amazing nurse come over from the nursery because it was empty. She was a godsend because I was having urinary retention due to the pitocin and couldn't urinate after giving birth. I was in serious pain because of it. She was the only one who took me seriously. She found an u/s machine which measured over 1200 ml of urine in my bladder. She sounded the alarm to the other nurses that there was a serious issue so quickly. They drained over 1400 ml of urine and I finally got relief.

So I decided I needed a shower. I had to have my husband help me and he saw me in nothing but those god awful mesh underwear and called me gorgeous. @@fernera22 Yes I did. To be perfectly honest I was so scared that I didn't even feel anything. Ii dont remember getting them either time. But they lube the heck out of the end of it. What was annoying was the tape they put on your inner thigh to secure it so it wont get snagged on anything. It took forever for the adhesive to fully come off. Or the blood pressure leg cuffs. They basically put these big pressure cuffs on your legs and pump it just like they would on your arm. It is to help prevent blood clots. They were annoying af.

Damn this makes me feel so sorry for USians. Imagine having the FIRST STAGE of uour recovery take up more than 3/4 of your maternity leave. You've barely even started thinking about the later stages of recovery and then you have to go back to work even if your birth and recovery were extremely difficult. Parental leave should be AT LEAST 16 weeks fully paid, if not more, not just 8 weeks

However, I have questions, and hope it doesn't sound awful, but I'm genuinely curious. You said people get up to 3 years of paid leave. How do you still have a job after that? Companies must hire people to replace someone gone that long, so what do they say when they hire somone? "Hey, you're a "temporary" staff for potentially 3 years, are you okay with that?" And what happens when the parent comes back? Is the person who took over now out of a job again? Does the company try to find another job for them within the company? Are there companies whose sole purpose is to contract out people to specifically take over for people on leave, then when that person comes back, the staff is sent to a new assigment? I was so incredibly out of it after the difficult and traumatic birth of my son, I barely remember anything...even holding him 😔 BUT, I remember the sweet, gentle, caring nurse who walked with me (basically holding me up) to the bathroom and cleaned me up and showed me how to tend to myself down there and how to keep my episiotomy site clean. She was so compassionate....the look on her eyes was so loving. ❤ My son is almost a year old now....I will never forget her face as she knelt on the ground in front of the toilet helping me, telling me I did a great job, and that I would heal up in no time.

That’s like when mine threatened to cut me if the baby wasn’t born in the next push. You best believe I pushed like my life depended on it. With my first born I was bedridden for a few days because I had kidney infection and septicaemia and when I finally got the catheter out and was back on my feet I had to use the bathroom. We didn’t have any fancy spray or anything but they just said to sit leaning forward while you pee so the urine doesn’t sting the vagina and it worked quite well. When I was doing my first post birth poo (I was in hospital for 2 weeks) my mother in law came in the room and when I came out the toilet she berated me that “ANYONE could have just come in and stole my grandson you’re so lucky!!!” In a threatening manner. It was already traumatic and she really upset me saying that what was i meant to do take him to the toilet? 😢 ive had 4 sons now and ill always look fondly back to those really early days. theyre special. nothing makes you feel as strong and valued as having a new baby. i want another one but its not practical and my husbands had a vasectomy.

Speaking as someone who gave birth a little over two months ago, skip the monstrosity pads and just bring some adult diapers with you to the hospital in your bag. They are so so worth it, I lived in them for 5 weeks because that’s how long I bled and they were life (and mattress) savers

Yes!!!! Had my youngest 3 years ago and I brought in Depends diapers with me. The nurses and the doctor was surprised that I was using them and thought that it was smart and easier to deal with than those mesh underwear and hospital pads.

I've only had one cesarean 24 years ago. Why would mothers need pads at all? What is causing all the bleeding? God this sounds awful. I've always been thankful for having a cesarean over natural birth but this makes me want to buy a lottery ticket lol!

@@tuttyfateveryone bleeds. Vaginal or c-section doesn’t matter. Your uterus is emptying everything that’s in there. Some bleed more then others, but everyone bleeds.

Yeah I was just going to comment this, my grandma(who is a nurse) came to help my step-mom after she had my brother for a few weeks, came in the house with baby diapers in one hand, and adult diapers in the other!

My hospital had two-in-one instant ice pack/mega pads. I asked for more before being discharged. They asked “how much?” and I said “How many can you give me?” 😂

My husband was a saint when it came to helping me after giving birth to our son. He was absolutely terrified to let me walk to shower or walk to the bathroom by myself. The first night after birth he sat in the bathroom floor while I sat in the shower on the pull down seat to make sure I didn’t pass out or fall because I was bleeding so much. He took such good care of me and still does ❤

I only learned about the spray & witch hazel after my 2nd was born. It was mind blowing. I was prepared when I had #3. I still keep the witch hazel pads and spray in my house for when my kids mess themselves up. So useful.

Yes!! I wish I had used the diapers for after child birth. I could've used them because I bled through everything. I had no clue they existed.
