What Medium Format film camera would you recommend?

I like to use the Fuji GA645 Professional, a "compact" medium format camera when I want to travel more light.

@@FabrizioZago For sure, 6×7 is just out of this world... But 6×4.5 is plenty enough for most people, and I'd say more than they need. The negatives are awesome for large prints, cameras are smaller, lighter, more "automated".

I really need to pick up one of these. I've grown pretty tired of digital. I pulled my Mamiya RZ67ii out of the bag today and am looking at doing home development. I turned pro back in the 80s but just got tired of the darkroom. But now with so many advancements it might be time to do it at home again. Maybe a Christmas present to myself this year. Excellent video.

Very well done. Used to have a Pentax 67 which I sold. It was a tank. Want to get back into medium format, but more light weight and portable. I'm looking at the Bronica etrs, and the Pentax 645, and the Mamiya 645. I'm leaning toward the Mamiya. Thanks for this. It was very helpful. BTW, I love your photos.

Jack, so sorry I missed this comment and thank you for the kind words! I would definitely consider the Mamiya, though the Pentax does look cool too. @JodyCortes
@JodyCortes 3 жыл бұрын
Been looking at Mamiya for Years and now that they be cheaper I might dive into this year. But in my research I have heard about or run into the focusing issues the camera seems to be known for . People saying on KZbin that there be a focusing adjustment screw inside the camera as you take the lens off and it’s too the bottom Right. Sometimes that piece gets broken or worn out .. have you had any of these issues ? On to check if your camera is on the money with focusing , point to something Far away like a telephone pole or a light post ( due to it being virtual) where the lens would be set on infinity. What you see in the lens might be infinity to what you see but may not match with the lens setting . Once you focus check the lens to see if you have it on the Infinity mark on the lens. If not then the camera be off . You can adjust yourself with a screw driver , if it’s under the infinity mark you turn the screw clockwise just a pitch and refocus and check the lens ( this will take a few tries ) BTW you turn the screw Clockwise .. if you cannot get In Infinity with the lens it will have to be adjusted to counter clock wise turns. Have you run into these issues ? From my research seem the more you use it you will eventually you might have to adjust .. When will your scanning video be up ? Stay Safe and well ... and Shoot Dammit Shoot like the wind .
@RossJukesPhotography

Thanks Jody, yeah it’s a fairly common issue but I’ve been fairly fortunate to not have any problems with mine. Nick Carver has just done a brilliant video on how to replace that part and if you’re patient, it looks like a fairly easy fix! In terms of price, judging by the popularity of these cameras, I think it’s only going to go up, so if you find a good deal, I’d go for it! Thanks again and keep safe

For me it's the Yashica Mat 124G, just because it's a more enjoyable camera to use. Not as flexible as the Mamiya but a lot more portable and has seen my 645 just gathering dust because of its weight.

I really like the Mamiya looking at either the 645 super or pro but prices have one through the roof or the other option is the ETRS which I also think is a great camera and more a affordable for me at this time as long as people stop switching to film lol 😂 in this digital world

Ha! Well , I have also owned an ETRS too but find the Mamiya vastly superior, but that may have been down to the user and not the camera! Though you are right, with so many people moving to film, it’s best investing now because prices are only going to go up & up!

@RossJukesPhotography

I can't see any adjustment on this one but Mamiya did several different Viewfinders so I'm sure one may have adjustment - though I have bad eye sight and have bought a magnifier for my viewfinder that helps (but obviously doesn't do quite the same job as a diopter!)
@sneakerjoe23
@sneakerjoe23 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely enjoy the waist level viewfinder and manual exposure and crank of the Bronica. In terms of quality, weight, mirror slap, would you really recommend the 645pro over the ETRS?
@RossJukesPhotography
@RossJukesPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would. I always felt that the Bronica was more 'basic' in many aspects and in truth, the 645 Pro is a more modern camera. However, it's important to remember that all of these style of cameras still have their own 'quirks' and require a degree of manual involvement that may not come easy to first time shooters. However, if you've used similar cameras in the past, I would imagine that you would enjoy the 645Pro - just my opinion though ;)

@Ryan-lc4bl
@Ryan-lc4bl 3 жыл бұрын
This camera isn't very heavy, any decent tripod should be able to support it (1.4kg/3 pounds). That's with the waist level viewfinder, with the prism and motor drive it's close to 1.8kg, but still not that heavy for a 645 camera.

Yes, he could. Probably just as useful as the Mamiya (similar accessories), but somehow each camera looks different, that's another factor. The Bronica has AE prisms, motor winder (slower), and leaf shutter lenses, which can sync flash at 1/500, unlike Mamiya's 1/60 sync speed.

It really depends what you want to do with it. If you're looking to do portraits etc. and need a flash head, I really recommend the Godox 600 series flashes, very capable and a lot cheaper than Profoto etc. If it's just 'illuminate' parts of a room, there are some really great LED panels from the likes of Neewer and Boling that can be used on battery alone so can be discreetly placed to act as practicals - hope this helped ;)

Ross Jukes Photography I was wondering which adapter, if any, you use for the Godox when using the Mamiya 645 pro tl? Thanks again!
@RossJukesPhotography
@RossJukesPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
M Taitano I’m afraid I’m not actually ‘using’ it myself as I shout available light for the kind of things I shoot (I should also clarify I use the Godox with my canon camera and haven’t tried it with the Mamiya), so you would need to do a bit of research I’m afraid, maybe contact their customer service. However, there are usually solutions to these things, I’m sure a basic flash trigger would do the job if you’re looking at off camera flash. However, you might also want to research flash sync with your particular Mamiya as most will be restricted and ones such as the TTL version will have some benefits. Hope this helps 👍
