Mammoth Kamikaze: Part 1

In the early days of mountain biking these brave racers pushed themselves and their bikes to the extreme! Host Kevin Alves will race the one and only Kamikaze Downhill at Mammoth Mountain! A place where some of the first crazies (now we call them mountain bikers) participated in the Kamikaze Bike Games and pushed the sport forward with sheer determination and lack of self preservation!
With the help of Kamikaze Legend "Insane" Wayne, and in true UNPAVED fashion, we'll have the whole Mammoth Experience, taking a closer look at what makes this area and this race so legendary!

LOVE the "RAD" music on this vid :) Wayne offered me job working for him at his bike shop in Palmdale, Bicycle Radness as I worked at a competing store (Palmdale Bike shop) and made the newspaper after my first race on the Kamkazi. Had come to the shop after closing one night and gave me a "try out" asked me to do some bike maintance tasks to see if I could do it. It was really a dream come true working for and with Insane Wayne. This led to being able to go on rides with him and Earthquake Jake. Those rides also showed me how much faster they were than me!!!

Haha great story! I was a kid in Palmdale when Radness was open. Crazy story in 1996 I moved to Bishop for almost 20 years. Wayne ended up living a couple miles down the road from me. Here I am back in Palmdale at 50 years old and still riding at the U with the young kids!!!

Lee Forrest probably!!! Well the W is still there, and the little U is still there, but The big U where the board ramp was had a road cut through it so that got ruined. But for the most part all of the natural terrain is still there. We just need some motivated kids with shovels!! Are you on Instagram at all I’ll send you some recent photos👍🏿
