As a nature and conservation girlie through and through, I absolutely ADORE that Disney made that little walkway so they wouldn't dredge up the coral reefs in the area! Those are SO important to the ocean's ecosystem. I do agree that they should have put up little signs explaining that and explaining what local wildlife live there and depend on the coral reefs. If I ever get lucky enough to go on a Disney cruise and visit there I will be the weird girl trying to see if I can see any animals in the water and taking way too long to get across the walkway lol

I agree with Molly. Add some signs about the island and the critters that are in the water and around the island. At each one add a shade canopy and a bench. Put some education in the stroll.

My 8 year old son has some physical limitations (he's fine in small chunks, but does not have the stamina), so we asked about a golf cart for the walkway when we got on the ship. At that point, they told me they did not have all the details for that yet, but took my information and would let me know. Well, that never happened, which I won't complain about since they are just figuring things out. We knew the walk there would be okay for him, and that kid seriously left us in the dust. He then met Molly and Alan on the island, which was a highlight of the trip. We were very happy to have access to a wagon on the way back, though, because by that time, he did not have the stamina for the walk.

I love the info regarding the long walk on the pier because I know a lot of people were upset but conservation is way more important! ❤ Signs definitely would have been helpful in explaining this
@lindseysharon2596 ай бұрын
I have mobility issues so when I first saw the dock I was concerned, but my next thought was "I bet there's a reef there." Yes I wish it was shorter, but I personally put protecting reefs above my desire to lay on the beach, especially as they do have transport for people with mobility difficulties. If they damaged the reef there would have been way more uproar than the walk has caused. I agree signs would have helped a lot. Maybe some sculptures of the local sea creatures would have been cool and helped break up the intimidating sight of the walkway. Just something to make it look less industrial.

I think the Bahamian theming is so on-point, and I really like that they contacted Bahamian locals for the design and educational aspect. The costuming on the characters is 🤌🏻. I did scream when I saw the buffet and the flies. Caribbean flies are a nighhhttmarrreeee. Had to deal with them in Turks and Caicos. They should set up the sternos with lemon to deter the flies. When they get bad like this, you can't even eat outside. Also, really surprised at that long walk off the boat. There should definitely be a canopy for the entire walk, fans at set points, benches, garbage cans, and perhaps a vendor set up at the halfway point to sell or hand out water. The Junkanoo celebration was so good! Bahamians don't play around with this, the competition between the teams with the elaborate dancing and drumming and the costuming is cutthroat. If you can catch actual Junkanoo, I would highly recommend it.
@FunAtDisney6 ай бұрын
Or knowing full well there were all these flys why did they not build indoor areas to get your food? Gee…what a concept! The Bahamian theming is good yes, but this whole place is very generic and could be for any cruise line as there is nearly zero Disney theming - And isn’t that why folks go on a Disney Cruise? I have not yet been on a cruise, but I would choose Castaway Cay over this for its immersive Disney theming and story.

If it helps anyone I just got back from a cruise that included Lookout point and the flies are not nearly as bad any more. The eating areas have high speed fans blowing to keep the bugs away and they’ve done something to where I don’t see any flies at the serving stations. The walk out from the ship wasn’t that bad for us. It didn’t feel much longer than the walk from the first tram stop to the ship on Castaway. It was middle 80s and very breezy. It only took us 10 minutes out and probably 15 back. Disney is allowing guests to stage in one of the lounges for first come First served cart transport out to the island as well.
