The flies are outrageous. Disney needs get real and have enclosed, air conditioned spaces for food service to keep the flies out. Flies on food and flies laying dead next to it as seen on this video is awful. Even worse the pathogens they carry. They need to control the breeding sites, too. Great video. Thanks.

There are metal mesh basket-like covers in frames which have been used for decades in the American South to keep flies off. I’ve noticed in other tropical places that the native people seem used to flies - after generations of not being able to do anything about them. But the tourists are North American and Northern Europeans, and will never accept this! I’m sure that Disney will heed suggestions made during this first opening of the resort. They will have the problem resolved quickly.

Idk if anyone knows this but I just got off the Fantasy’s Lighthouse Point Inaugural cruise today, and we went to LP twice. On the first day the flies were just like in the video. However, when we returned, poof! They were gone. I only saw one fly the entire day. Maybe it was just whether we ate at Too or the other one, or maybe there were less people due to it being the second day. But honestly, we think that Disney poisoned all the flies or something and got rid of them.

I’m the one from the “ADA cabana.” Some back story here might be important, I’m in my 30s and have incurable life threatening illnesses. My full time job is to stay alive and battle these illnesses. Every day I’m taking over 40 pills and doing IV medications. Very real chance I won’t live to see 40. Being among the first to go to the beach and swim at Lighthouse Point became an item on my bucket list. We confirmed over a month prior to sailing they would have beach wheelchairs on the island. They obviously did not. So I never got on the beach or in the water and got to watch everyone else do what I’ve spent over a year dreaming of that day. Disney is now having a different story about said beach wheelchairs and not being helpful at all. We used to sail Disney because they used to be so good at accommodating guests with disabilities and I have a large number of severe food allergies. They care more about their “influencers” than about a guest fighting for their life. They don’t want to make it right and they’ve been awful to deal with. This was our 23rd Disney Cruise and we can’t believe the way this situation has been handled. Truly disgusted. Ben and David it was lovely meeting you two! Anyone who has ever eaten outdoors in hotter temps knows you have to keep the flies off the food. That is disgusting. Heys guys. Prepared this video quickly. That walk folks are saying is like 1/2 a mile and gotta be on a list for the shuttle. I’d need the tram or shuttle from the ship. 12-15 minutes walk for you is probably an hour for me 🤦♀️. Notice this walkway has railings. Gorgeous water indeed. The loungers in the cabana/villas look thick indeed. Beautiful souvenir shops. 🚲 rentals. Look at the art and Disney woven bags. Arts and crafts too. Oh no. I could never eat that chicken. There was a dead fly l. Some other creators reported the same. The beach 🏖️ is lovely. Nice there is an adult area only as well. The kids waterpark look fun. Well this is the preview cruise so with their amazing customer service; I’m sure they take opinions and suggestions into consideration. Thanks for sharing 🤗

I think Disney need to figure some details out, lot of comments mention the walk and the flies and those are massive issues. The accessibility is also pretty important.

They definitely need another tram. One dedicated one for the pier, and one of the ones used in the resort to go to the pier for disembarkation when the need is concentrated. They also need resting spaces with benches and sun covers.

I'm over here thinkin': 40-45 minutes, walk-tram, to get to the tourist shops.

Thank you for the honest review. I have been on 12 DCL cruises, on all the ships. My first was on the Magic and 2 years ago I did the Fantasy and Wish. My heart stays on the Wonder. Anyway, I have been watching your channel in the last few weeks, I love the information you give, it is just enough and very honest.

Love the video. That walk to and from the ship could actually be dangerous when it’s so hot outside. People can easily get heat exhaustion. That needs to be the first thing remedied. Also, a room w water spray fans on the island would be very helpful to cool off and go!! Have a great trip guys!!

23:46 that’s how the buffets on Carnival’s Princess Cay was too. The food was COVERED in flies. We just ate on the ship and came back. The walk and the lack of shade for this is a no for me too. Hopefully they can work out the kinks since it is a new location.

Surprised Disney didn’t spend a bit more money on mature plants. Could have made a big difference. They need some options at the ship getting to the island. Bikes, wagons, tram.

Your video is very well done. Having visited the otherworldly beautiful Lighthouse Point on many Eleuthera vacations and most of the time being the only people there, seeing all of these people and knowing what it will do to the coral reefs and other wildlife makes me cry.

Overall, the island looks beautiful…I may wait a year to let Disney work the kinks out Ben and David, we appreciate all you do

I think you were very forgiving about the fly issue. I think if it was MSC you wouldn’t have been as soon understanding! The walk from the ship without any cover from the sun is also a massive oversight from Disney.

The beaches there look gorgeous! As far as the shopping, I liked the local stuff more than all the overpriced Disney stuff. As for the food, OMG, so gross with all the flies! I'd eat before going there. And they need to have a lot more shaded areas, including that horribly long walkway to get to the island. I can easily walk a few miles, but there will be elderly and people with mobility issues that will not be able to handle that. There should be trams or scooters to take people back and forth.

The island of Eluthera was our annual go to holiday for many years. Where Disney has developed was known as Lighthouse beach, a somewhat little known beach to most tourists as it was quite difficult to get to. It was stunning and we often packed a picnic in the car and got as far as we could before trekking in to the beach. Had to stop going as i became dreadfully suseptible to biting fly bites and ended up looking like i had pox! If you find some genuine artwork at the resort, try looking for any originals by Kevin Cooper, a brilliant local artist. Beautiful island and just lovely people. Try coming back for a land vacation you won't be disappointed.

Right. We ended up parking when the road got too bad and hitchhiked to the point when we were there. I can’t believe what Disney did. Eleuthera is such an amazing place.

My husband and I spent a relaxing week on Eleuthera several years ago, so BEAUTIFUL, authentic and lovely residents, just wonderful! Hired a private tour guide one day, got on the ONE road running north and south, went to the blue hole, Gregory Town, to a pineapple farm, too much fun! I understood prices have skyrocketed since then - but what a perfect time! And the beaches around the island look just like the ones shown...

Just a reminder, if you want the "real" cultural experience you DON'T go to an artificial village designed by Disney. This is authentic just like the Jungle River Cruise at Disneyland is the "real" Amazon. At least the "natives" are not animatronic!

First time watching your channel. I appreciate both of you talking slowly & annunciating words. Better video than most channels because if the information you have dug to share for the video. And for the amount of talking you both do, surprisingly it hasn't been annoying.

Joe Rohde is the imagineer behind the island design and was the creative genius behind Animal Kingdom and Aulani in Hawaii. He’s always been a stickler for retaining local culture and customs with a bit of education so it doesn’t surprise me that he followed that here. That said, the island looks like a shade-free boiling cauldron. Not to mention that trail of tears from the ship to the island! I imagine one-day cruise guests are more interested in fun, exciting things to do and not so much the educational stuff. That’s not an indictment of Disney or Joe but what cruise passengers are expecting on a private island on a very expensive cruise. Joe is no longer with the company so I suspect Disney will have their hands full for a few years getting all that squared away until it becomes Castaway Cay Part II. I have no doubt they will, but it will take awhile.

Can I just say it’s great that you guys were so professional and positive about things and upbeat saying “hey we are here the first day and there will be issues but I’m sure Disney will address them.” I’ve been seeing several vloggers be so negative and nasty about the first visit there.
