I have just purchased the same model from eBay. I had one as a child, long gone now. When my new one was running the years fell away and once again I was watching with my Dad who died in 1959 when I was 11. And now my Grandsons watch with me.

I have this exact one, my dad was born in 1960 and he used to have it as a toy, he gave it to me and it’s the best thing I have ever been given! They’re so cool

My late grandfather had this exact model. I just found it at my grandmothers house yesterday, and I'm hoping to repaint the base and polish the boiler up, clean all the parts and HOPEFULLY get it going again.

This is awesome. My father had something very similar when I was just a little kid, and it was always a thrill to watch it run. I think my father also a generator that could be driven with some sort of belt drive off the flywheel to power a tiny incandescent bulb. And even though I have a very clear memory of those extra parts, I have no memory whatsoever of them actually working alongside the engine. As I recall, the proper fuel for the engine was some sort of little white cube that would burn hot once ignited. I also have a very vague memory that one of my uncles owned something very similar, but it was more like a model of a steam tractor. That always intrigued me, but I only ever saw it on a shelf and never saw it run.

Yeah,my dad made a meccarno ferris wheel with lights, its was powerd by this little engine,we would sit for hours in his shed whatching it go. Ah the smell of meths, boiling water and 3in1 oil,he also collected most of the mammod steam range (engines, rollers, showmans, the car and the waggon)the waggon has never been fired up!,and yes i have all of these as well.

I have a Mamod Se2a from about 1977: the same engine with the addition of reversing gear and the whistle. It is substantially the same as this one. What's interesting its my steam supply line runs directly from the top of the boiler down to the cylinder, but yours seems to wrap around the bottom of the boiler: kind of a primitive super heater. My steam supply line is soldered into the boiler. Mine lacks the absorbent washer for cylinder lubrication. Your fuel tray is for liquid fuel, mine is a plain tray for Esbit tablets (My wife says they stink-up the house!)

I bought this model (or similar version) with my birthday money in about 69/70. Used to run it in my small boxroom bedroom, the smell of meths was overpowering. The novelty didn't last long, it ended up being left outside on top of the coal bunker, eventually being sold for shillings.

My father spent lot of time traveling for business when I was a kid. He got me one of these when he was in England around 1980. I was 11 or 12 I would pull it out from time to time. No one was really impressed with it because it just spins a flywheel. I was because I knew what it took to get a steam engine to work. Recently I decided to sell it on eBay someone low balled me with an offer I started thinking about my father he passed when 90's when I was in my 20's. I took it down can't sell it right now I want to clean it up make it look new again. I still have the box lost the funnel and needs a new filler plug lost that also.
