A mate of ours is starting a car related KZbin channel, it would mean a lot to us if you could give him some of your time! (That is if cars interest you) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nprUk51nba6qldk

There was a post that went viral on British Twitter a few days ago - or maybe it was an older post resurfaced, idk I saw it on Insta but I digress - of a road that had potholes so deep that you could actually see the Victorian era cobblestone that the modern pavement had been poured over. Most people just took the opportunity to poke fun at the incompetence of their local councils, mostly deservedly so, but it really got me thinking about how much history is just the building of newer stuff on older stuff. I phrase it so generally because it really applies to everything; roads, cities, specific building sites, even the way in which we live our lives and think about our lives. It reminded me of visiting the Basilica of San Clemente in Rome, one of the few churches in the world where you can see not only the medieval church but the preservation of centuries of Christian art and tradition going all the way back to the fourth century. You’re so acutely aware standing there that you’re literally in a place that has been physically built on over the centuries. Something as simple as a road paved by the Romans for the purposes of enabling faster travel endured on the Romano-British - later to become the English - countryside so much that one of the most important and populous cities in the country in Manchester exists because people have used that same network established by the Romans so long ago. Really goes to show how interconnected with, and dependent on, history we are.

I've been binging Decades lately. The style of narration that you created for delivering red dead lore works just as wekk for real life lore too.

I'm listening to the early episodes of the British History podcast right now. We're about out of the Roman occupation, so this was really interesting to see! Thanks

“It’s now patchwork and council potholes and sadness, but once upon a time it was something else.” You could apply that sentiment to most things in this country today tbh. 😂

Oh it's far from special in that respect, but I wanted to dispel the idea of a Roman road being the tarmac that gets torn to shreds but the first articulated lorry that passes over it.
