6:04 - I was a firefighter/paramedic for 20 years in NE Florida. I used to have a “regular” that I got to know fairly well. He was a lovely old man who was blinded as a young boy (age 7) after he got into his grandfather’s Gin stash that had been poisoned by Prohee agents. Damn near killed him. Lucky (?) for him, the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind was less than 5 miles from his home so he was able to attend school and learned to adapt and went on to have a somewhat normal life. Prohibition never has and never will work, and particularly here in the US, it led to all manner of unintended, HORRIBLE consequences.

Wonderful. We love it here. The castle is amazing and the woods have a brilliant sculpture trail and in spring is overflowing with bluebells and wild garlic. Skipton is full of little alleys with independent shops and tea parlours and there are canal trips running from the marina. Us girlies from work go shopping there once every few weeks and always go for a boozy shopping expedition around the amazing Christmas Market. There are reasonable hotels AND it is very close to Haworth and visit the Bronte sisters house etc AND Grassington, which is a beautiful village where 'All Creatures Great and Small' was filmed. A beautiful, historic, broody yet pretty part of the country.

The thing with tomatoes being poisonous: This myth originated from the fact that when they were eaten with cheap silver utensils, the acidity of the tomato would leach lead out of the impure silver, leading to lead poison.

From the start of the industrial revolution in the UK it is amazing what was created, but from the late 1980's it has been on the decline and is very sad to see. Other countries are now leaving us behind or already have years ago with their infrastructure making the Uk not looking so good.

Really enjoyed your take on the Gunpowder Plot. I can only imagine that if I'd been in one of the plotters' shoes and found out about the plot discovery letter, you'd want to flee out of the country, maybe to Ireland or France or further afield. It's quite something to imagine the resolve, or perhaps religious fervor, the conspirators had to continue with their plot. There would have undoubtedly been scores if not hundreds of people killed had the plot succeeded.

London now is not even english . We want our country back . Stop the small boats . Start mass deportation . It may have been bad in 1888 but omg . Look at the city now . Pro hamas protesters. Crime . The labor government. They cant even tell you what a woman is . 😂

Well . I was in the uk last year . I could not go out for a walk in london at night . The east end was terrible. No white people . Now there are pro Hamas protests all the time . The UK is finished . The streets in london were safer in 1888 . Tell me i am wrong .

What’s truly horrifying for women is that they are literally being mutilated under the noses of police. In a matter of seconds a woman could be getting murdered but the police would miss it.

You'd love it. So many Tudor and medieval houses all between 30-60 minutes drive (or train journey). About an hour from York. I'm a Lancashire girl myself but love Yorkshire and can attest to the hospitality of Yorkshire folk.

@@Wisdom-Nuggets-Tid-Bits Yes, quite lovely too. Especially Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford. Also, you can stay at Warwick Castle (home of the Kingmaker who fought in the Wars of the Roses) in one of the tower rooms. We also have something called 'Champing' which is 'camping in sort of luxury in medieval churches' i plan on doing this in summer. Mind you, you have plenty of gorgeous stuff in the States. Take care.

I'm wondering how long the myth of rats and their fleas being responsible for the spread of bubonic plague will last. It wasn't fleas, but body lice, all but extinct in the Western world because of washing machines and detergent. When people fled from the plague, they took it with them. The lice were so hard to remove and clothing and bedding was not then abundant, it was believed that having lots of body lice was a sign of good blood! They lived and laid their eggs in the hems and linings of clothing, coming out to feed on blood. Horrible!

It would be good to know more details about the mutilations. If it’s true that the uterus was cut out from one of the victim‘s body, it would indicate the murderer was a woman. Women can be incredibly gruesome, especially to each other. & maybe therefore it was easy to get away with heinous killings. Usually the men are the main suspects, which is ridiculous. There’s no pictures of the bodies in that documentary. For people with medical knowledge it’s obviously very important.

@11:25 in the United States a lot of the unexploded ordinances they find are leftovers from the civil war. Most of which are the first first generation of grenades as well as exploding cannonballs. They are found a lot more often than you would imagine especially when magnet fishing which myself and a group of people have actually found three grenades in a Creek in Louisiana that were from the civil war. And that triggered a set of events that ended up with an ambulance probably a dozen police officers and a bomb squad from 200 mi away coming out to This Little Creek to explode these grenades after they were away at a safe distance.

Reference to Robert Peel: To specify a leading cause, we would advert to what Sir Robert Peel has called, in the British Parliament, " a development of military ambition in the United States;" in one sense, both cause and effect of the war with Mexico. The attentive student of history will be at no loss to trace the origin and growth of this fearful passion. For the time we have existed as a people, we have been no sluggards in the use of the sword. The old French and Indian wars occupied our great grandfathers; the Revolution our grand- fathers; the war of 1812 our fathers, and Creek and Cherokee expatriations, and Black Hawk, Patriot, Seminole, and Mormon skirmishes their sons. The martial spirit is “always a tiger, and we have given the tiger too much room and freedom.” -war with Mexico reviewed, Abiel Livermore 1850
