There’s barely anything suitable coming up in my area and I’m not being particularly picky. Had two interviews this year from a couple of hundred applications. The whole time I’ve been out of work, I’ve been studying and volunteering and employers seem to actually hold that against me at interview. I feel your pain but don’t give up

It's been normal since 2013, this was only 'recognised' in 2019 because Jake was brave enough to put himself on TV talking about it, which for years nobody would and rightfully so because who really wants to be seen by the world as struggling to find work. I applaud Jake for speaking out about the struggle of thousands of young people who can't land their first opportunity in their desired career or at least make money for an independent lifestyle.

Only 400 applications? when I made my last career move, I must have applied for over 1000 jobs. I mean let's face it, it's about over-population, scared managers frightened of losing their jobs, companies going bust, ageism/over qualification and deselection prejudice. So we have a 23 year boy that's done nothing career-wise yet, who's been selected media-wise because it's 'cool' and represents the young up and coming generation, but apart from that, why is this news, when this old, old unemployment stuff is as old as dirt.

The problem im having is everytime I try and sign in to any online sites to apply for a job, it keeps rejecting my current password, claiming that it's invalid. When I try and change my password it sends me a 6 digit code via text message and when I type that code in to reset my password, that also gets rejected. What should I do?? Job hunting was much more easier back in the 80's, 90's and early 00's
@Da1Dez

Yep, no job agencies back then that the company advertised through, plus companies did actually keep your CV in their drawer/ document rack if you sent it in or were an unsuccessful applicant. Whereas now, they keep things digitally and your records are either deleted or lost under piles of emails. My dad said he doesn't think he'd have gotten his 30 year long job if Indeed and these other sites had existed back then, since the company actually got back to him a month after an intial interview about a different, but similar, job they had coming up and allowed him to interview first and offered it to him on the spot from how well his last interview went.

Yeah it's even worse now as some people have mentioned. I have applied for just over 500 jobs(non entertainment jobs let's specify. I've done random voice work to keep my busy but even that is far between) and I've only had two interviews. And then I keep seeing the same job posting from the same company week after week and then when I ask they claim they are not hiring. Since the last three years the big probis that we lost a lot of our visa workers which is exactly what people want as a company; because those people can be taken advantage of. That's one of the biggest issues. And the biggest now issues come from tech where we no longer need in person staff to do a job but computers. And those jobs aren't replaced. Like self checkouts.

This is making this guy look a complete nice guy drip, yet it's not his fault. If it is then some thing's fundamentally wrong with society. I know part of it's algorithms. Just a few years, after being made redundant from my local airport after flybe collapsed collapsed, I got a part time warehouse job. I started this job a few years ago and it was a lot easier, even just a few years ago. Recently it seems they're knit picking any little negative they can find - gaps in your employment history, comments on your social media that don't always comply with wokeness and any convictions long spent, even if you previously worked for a long time after a minor offence. Another one is being turned down for positions you've already got years of experience for. It seems they want to create this low under class they can manipulate at will.
