What's most important is you and the other couple, as well as anyone else onboard feels SAFE! It's so easy to let hateful actions make us afraid to be ourselves and express our love in public. The current state of affairs across the country of all the anti-LGBTQIA++ laws and rhetoric going around really does have consequences. It gives hateful people the feeling it's OK to do what they do. Thankfully Security and the crew knew this was not OK and handled it quickly and discreetly. Thanks for sharing.

But did you tell the couple when you talked to them that what they had done (block the view during the show and refuse to move when they were made aware that they were blocking someone’s view of the show) was bad behavior on their part? They needed to take some ownership of poor behavior before things escalated to the inappropriate level.

@@zaraneves3345 This is a very disappointing comment. Does "ghetto" cruise line mean "trailer trash" or a racially diverse set of cruisers? Great video and love the balance of your reporting. Never been on that ship but possibly the bar staff should just alert the passengers that there is a show on the go and be aware that they may be blocking someone’s view. Would avoid irritation and prevent a heated situation. However, completely unacceptable for anyone to be abusive to anyone. Guess that guy will not be allowed to cruise Celebrity again.

The saddest -- yet truest -- words you said is "there's hate everywhere in the world." Doing my first Celebrity cruise in June (the Summit, out of Brooklyn) and really looking forward to it. As a solo gay traveler, I'll admit there are times when I've felt... wary on cruise ships. I've never had a full-on incident (thank God), but I've heard the whispers... the ones that any minority recognizes instantly. The ones that send shivers up your spine and find you thnking, "Hmmm, maybe I should leave this space for another." Love hearing how Celebrity handled this situation. (Side note: It sorta sounds as if the bar in Eden is really badly designed. If people can't stand at a bar without blocking someone's view, that's problematic. Sure, maybe a person COULD wait for the show to be over. But that's why the bar is there... to serve people drinks.) On Mardi Gras, there's an atrium bar that's just off the atrium space in which they put on big shows. During one such show, there was an incredibly loud group of people in that bar. It felt so disrespectful of the audience and the performers.

Exact opposite, actually. I was on a sailing on the NCL Prima with my wife. After a fantastic dinner at Le Bistro, since we were both feeling cute and didn't want the night to end, we went for a walk around the promenade deck. It was a full moon, gorgeous waves, so we did a little dance and a twirl, not realizing there were people around. We got a chorus of "Awwwwwww" and, me being the anxious little bug I am, we scurried back inside :D

I still believe you are only getting one side of the story... however, you are right... there is no room for hate. This is considered a “lounge” show so it’s typical for these style of shows to have the bar open. That said, we think it may be a good idea to challenge that norm and close the bar during these shows in the future. ☺️

Hey guys...thank you for sharing this story! I am thankful to say that our experience has been extremely positive concerning this topic on all of our past cruises. In fact, we have always been overwhelmed at how excepting fellow passengers are and how open they are to interact with us. Our belief is that people who enjoy cruising, also enjoy and are comfortable with, meeting new people and experiencing life different from their own at home. Choosing to vacation on a cruise ship, which is like a small town, with complete strangers for a week or longer, is a bold statement in itself, that you are okay with that. This is why we love cruising so much. I'm saddened, and even a bit angered, that this situation occurred in this day and age, but pleased to hear that the crew of Celebrity Apex reacted swiftly and without prejudice, as we will be cruising on Apex in the near future. Take care guys...we look forward to seeing you again! Shane and Fernando

This is sad on so many levels. Thank you for the set-up of this story. I wonder, if the couple that was attacked had simply said "I am so sorry. We didn't mean to block your view." and simply moved out of the way the whole incident might have been avoided? This is just good old common courtesy. That being said, I am not justifying the attacker's behavior in any way. The behavior of the "attacker" is beyond appalling and should not be tolerated regardless of the circumstances. No matter what the situation, no one should ever lay hands on another person or escalate the situation with verbal slurs of any kind (homophobic, racial, sexual, religious, or otherwise). I applaud Celebrity for how they handled this situation. Many of the cruise lines are making it clear there is a zero-tolerance policy for behavior such as this.

However, i would never assault anyone over a difference of opinion (that’s a meathead reaction and hate speech has no business EVER being used.) t seems like the assaulting party were looking to empower their hate through actions. That’s very sad. While i think putting the guy in this stateroom for the entire cruise is over the top punishment, i do think he deserved a day in his room to rethink his actions. This makes me very sad. We should all spread love not hate. While I may not personally agree with someone’s sexual orientation I will and always do show respect and love as that is what we are all called to do. I pray for everyone involved and for the person who instigated this level of hate that his heart would be changed. Unfortunately it is not likely. In any case I applaud Celebrity and their swift action. We all need to feel safe and loved no matter what.

I'm glad to hear that Celebrity treats its guests better now. Many years ago I had totally negative experiences on my Celebrity cruise which is why I never cruised with them again. A single African American woman who was often ignored, passed over for service, etc.

Comments that were made, uncalled for. But I think they need to fix the configuration of the bar so no one is getting mad about someone being in their view line.

It's so sad that people can't let people be themselves. Operative word?? PEOPLE!! We're all people!! My dad taught me that my job as a human on this planet is to look for the good in everyone I meet. None of us asked to be born. How boring would it be if we were all the same? No one likes everyone, but, if you must, just leave others alone, for goodness sake!! Live & let live, let it be...whatever phrase you like, but just leave people alone if you don't care to take the time to know them. There is no place for being nasty to others, especially those you don't know. Brings to light another lesson...if you can't say something nice, don't say anything. People fear what they don't understand. Take time to get to know people from all walks of life...your life will be so much richer!! J & J, we love you out here, & feel really bad for those that don't enrich their lives by learning & meeting people different than themselves, cuz they would find, we really aren't so different after all. I often say, straight parents make gay children...you'd be surprised how many don't know that! You 2 are a great example for the LGBTQIA+ nation...you show how life should be for all...joyful, happy & fun!!!! Thanks for sharing & allowing yourselves to be a platform for equality for everyone. Let's cruise!!

Was the couple's behavior rude? Probably. Did it justify hate and assault? Absolutely not... Kudos to Celebrity security and cruise line!!

Of course I don't know the story but right away I think back to a story from my youth... I am personally not gay but some kids used to think that I was and one of them who used to tease me relentlessly actually wound up coming out soon after high school and when I saw him in New York City one evening, he actually apologized to me ! It was a very surreal experience! Anyhow it bothers me to think that such things are still happening especially when my son's generation seems to get it. My son was actually surprised when I told him a bunch of years back that kids used to get made fun of for being gay back in the 80s. His response was, "why? That's ridiculous!"

We also agree that the new generations are teaching all of us some valuable lessons when it comes to acceptance and inclusion. ❤️

My hubs and I sailed transatlantic on Apex in November last year. We had an amazing time but as the trip was terminating in Ft Lauderdale there were a LOT of Floridians onboard. On several occasions we were blanked or ignored at dinner etc. No biggie but I would avoid any cruise now heading to Florida because of this. The drinks service in Eden was abysmal - we often sat at the bar to watch shows knowing people would be coming to the bar for drinks. It's a bar !! We have booked again with Celebrity heading from Lisbon to South America - can't wait and as you say the LGBTQ+ community is well looked after. Well done Celebrity.

why was the bar open during a show where customers would be blocking the view?
@JJCruise Жыл бұрын
This is considered a “lounge” show so it’s typical for these style of shows to have the bar open. That said, we think it may be a good idea to challenge that norm and close the bar during these shows in the future. 😅

Hate should never be allowed. Comments by hateful people should never be allowed. Physical contact from hate or anger should never be allowed. I'm glad this was noticed and taken care of. Though, the blame lies with Celebrity. They should have never placed a bar in a position that would have blocked other peoples views if guest choose to get a drink at that bar. Saying that they could have, or should have gone to another bar t get their drink is ridiculous. If there were guests whom were watching the show and decided to get their drinks at the same bar, would the opinion be the same. I am sure the guests whom had those seats that could have potentially been blocked by bar guests, knew that was a possibility and they took that risk when they sat down. They could have gone earlier and gotten better seats that would have not been obstructed. BTW, I am part of the LGBTQ+ community so this is not against you two in ANY way. I'm just expressing the reality.

I have always disliked how much abuse, hate and intolerance is expressed - especially when on a vacation. Almost as if some switch is flipped when travelling. A person's military service, gender, religion, politics, or sexual orientation is their choice. (I was screamed at not to long ago when I wore my old field jacket out on an errand, so yes it still happens.) Do no harm, live and let live, should be all that is needed. Sadly, such is not the case.

From the 70s I really thought homophobia and racism was on the way out. I never thought in 2023 we would still be dealing with this. Being accepting brings good into the world, using hate brings hate into the world. Why so many are choosing to spread hate baffles me, I truly don’t understand it. One of my grandsons who just turned 18, was called a f***** while just walking down the street. Yes he’s gay and was wearing a Pride shirt but what was the purpose for yelling at him calling him a slur? Did it make the man who yelled it feel good? How can being hateful make anyone feel good? I’m glad the cruise ship handled this so quickly and professionally.

I was born in Brazil and when I was about 13 I was visiting my sister and she signed me up for a teen center type of Day Camp where they would have arcade games and basketball court and other activities including some excursions to local Springs and things of that nature, basically you get to spend the day with other teens your age. Some of the kids who had formed a clique were kind of picking on me for having a bit of an accent and then not understanding much about Brazil and saying things like I thought everyone in your country lived in the jungle because they might have heard something about the Amazon jungle in school at some point. Their bullying was getting out of hand until I basically addressed it in front of everyone and asked why they were treating me this way, was it because I'm different because they don't understand my history or my past or where I came from? Maybe because I have an accent and I don't sound the same as they did. Why should any of that matter? Why not just ask me instead of making assumptions or treating me badly instead of trying to get to know me. And I literally asked what I had done to any of them to justify them treating me that way? I asked them all have I said anything to you or about you that you found disrespectful, hurtful, or offensive? Have I done anything other than extend my hand in friendship and make an effort to try to get to know each one of you. If me trying to make friends is offensive to you, what is my alternative? Two counselors were standing by watching this interaction to make sure it didn't escalate, and at least I can say that the kids stopped, looked at each other, and they actually said, "You know what? That's fair you didn't do or say anything against us and we should have at least given you the chance and try to get to know you before judging you just because we don't know anything about you" The backstory is quite a few of the kids were repeat attendees meaning they knew each other from previous years and I was kind of the odd new kid on the block as this was the first time I was attending this day camp. But they actually approached me and shook my hand and they apologized and we started a game of Nerf Hockey is the best way I can describe it with a sof ball and soft tip hockey sticks. After that we all sat down to have an afternoon snack and got to talk and they asked some questions about me and where I was from and from that point on they didn't mistreat me or try to bully me anymore I guess you could say we became friends at least for the duration of the camp. So that's my story...

Great to know that Celebrity handled the situation so swiftly and seriously. There is no room for that sort of behaviour. Ever. As an aside and in the spirit of education, "differently abled" is considered an ablest term. I understand you had the best of intentions toward inclusivity although the term used promotes the opposite. The correct word is disabled. I thought you'd like to know for future videos. ❤

In recent years I must say that neither my husband or I have had anything like that happen- but I still do worry because we are going to the Med and visiting different countries. We are smart travelers, we can pass for straight and keep our sexuality within our circle. So I hope he will be barred from cruising on any and all cruise ships- This type of behavior has no place on vacations-

I actually had a homosexual man tell me that i had to leave a bar because I was not homosexual and it was LGBTQ meetup hour. The bartender ended up asking him to leave but I felt like it was pretty rude.
