Man beaten by masked mob near Waikiki Halloween party scene

As hundreds of Halloween revelers packed the beach on Waikiki in costume, one group in the 10 p.m. hour appeared to be costumed only to conceal their identities.

Lets face it people. Waikiki has been a violent no enter zone for years. Never go there at night and walk the streets alone. I know people who work in the Waikiki area and they always have a fear that one day they'll be a victim of the thugs and drug addicts who roam the streets at night.

Waik's was sketch back in the 70s when I was a kid. It was probably sketch long before that. The thing is, big noisy parties and alcohol. I'm on the mainland now and there are areas where the beach crowd are something like 99% white Orange County Republicans, you know, the kind of people other white ppl like to assume Never Do Crimes. Well, there's all kinds of beatings and violence, fires, cars tipped over, etc.

Has Hawaii really gotten this bad recently or is this just an isolated incident? What about other parts of Hawaii? I remember a few years back when I was on the Big Island in kailua kona walking back from dinner one evening with my mom on a rainy day. These two shady characters stopped us in the middle of the walk way and mumbled something I couldn't make out what it was. But we ignored them and just kept walking. Luckily they walked away in the opposite direction.

Born and raised in Hawaii and seen so many locals go to these things just to pick fights and will often jump people as well. Best thing to do is either don’t go at all or go with a big group and not drink as much. Stay very aware of trouble makers and your surrounding and leave early. When it looks like people are getting too drunk it’s time to leave. It’s sad but true. You might not get shot or stabbed in Hawaii but you will get tested in fist fight no problem. If you like to street fight Hawaii is the place to be.
