As a long time rider there are several things I can point out as... not well thought out imo. 1) a strong sideways wind blast, like when a tractor trailer passes by, is going to be very dangerous in that. 2) it doesn't protect your legs which get absolutely soaked if you're not wearing rain gear. 3) at a stoplight, it'll be a pita to stand up 4) it doesn't protect from road spray or any water coming upward or off the wheels 5) rain suits are dirt cheap, quick to remove and store easily in a backpack or saddle bags. That's just a quick list, I'm sure others will point out even more flaws.

In my opinion (as a +15 years rider), whom built, customized and owned a lot of bikes, and still daily riding a fully restored R1 RN12, I can tell I hate rain! I avoid riding in rain, simply because I don't like having my bike dirty and nasty after. So, this is a very nice idea, to have a cover to protect you from the rain, but, this is just a wet protection solution. Cause the main issue is the water on the road, not the rain itself falling on me or the bike. And this shell, isn't protecting me or anyone else NOT to slip/slide/fall in bad rainy weather... it protects you from getting wet :)) BUT, all this aside, it is a very nice construct, well done, looks amazing. Great work!

As a motorcyclist, I would like to highlight points that should be considered. First, in the event of an accident, the chances of survival will be very low due to the presence of this glass. Secondly, you cannot stop suddenly and you will find it difficult to deal with the brakes or stop completely. Thirdly, you cannot have another person ride with you. I think a rain jacket for bicycles would be less expensive and more effective. Thank you. ❤

@@Portray60 No windshield wiper, your legs still get soaked in the rain. Plus in a bad situation you might need to get off the bike in a split second in an accident and that would be hard to do with a shield on it so you'd be trapped inside the bubble while the bike goes in to a slide across the concrete with your leg trapped between the concrete and the bike ripping your leg to pieces or skinning you like a catfish, and other scenarios. Rain coat is a MUCH better option for safety reasons. Building a rain shield to keep your whole body dry on a 3 wheeled trike would have made more sense. The motorcycle canopy idea has been done before, and there are a lot of reasons it’s been abandoned. Despite material choices, the canopy appears to be negatively impacting weight distribution and center of gravity. Also, without a wiper, you’re going to need a lot of rain-x, and without a full defrost/defog hvac system, it’s going to fog up. Even worse, with the bottom open, at even moderate highway speeds in heavy rain, you’ll have a lot of road spray moisture deflected up in to the openings at the bottom. Finally, you still have to deal with a helmet, but now you’re dealing with a helmet and a canopy, which introduces reflections and distortions (and again, no wiper).

I built a rain shield for my electric bicycle about 10 years ago. Not near as refined as this build. I did bend some poly carbonate for a windshield using heat and a preform. But it was built out of steel tubing and Monokote so it was super light weight, but a stiff wind would probably flatten it. I used it at my protest rallys to draw in crowds in the fight against Texas toll roads that were blanketing the state. We won against the greed for my area, but most of Texas was not so lucky.

What a masterpiece! Incredibly complex and well thought-out construction. However, apart from the fact that you are "trapped" in the aero position and can never straighten your upper body (e.g. when stopping at a red light, railway crossing, etc.), you still get wet from the spray from the road and your legs from the rain coming from the side. Due to these and other disadvantages it is clear why you have never seen anything like this on the road. Nevertheless: Absolutely impressive work! Chapeau! True story! 😂 However in the vid he clearly does. But those saying legs get wet, the worst bit is when water pools at your groin area, especially if only have vented (summer) leathers. Not with this contraption though. 10 points for creativity, 3 points for practicality. I bet it could make a mess of someone in a bad crash!

Having worked in GP racing many years, motorcycle Aerodynamics and carbon fiber development the man did a great job. While it would be great for top speed runs or fuel economy records you cannot practically ride around in thst position except on the freeway, and even that would be dangerous. Tucked in, your shoulders hit your helmet turning your head, so your view is already down to less than 180 degrees. Even with big mirrors thére would be a blindspot, and zero chance to raise your head when you need a better view. Good riders know how to read pavement for traction, and laid down you can't see the surface 5 meters in front of you. Thats crazy, as bikes hydroplane just like cars, but you can't correct before you're down. I lived in Europe and traveled 1000's of K at 130+150 mph on the Autobahn just touring. From about 60 moh my roadrace track faiting before you could buy them like that in the early 1980s made a bubble of high-pressure air that kept all water off, so even my faceshield stayed dry. In one-piece leathers I'd usually cruise 110-120, 100 in snow it was downright cozy because the calm pocket is so large directly behind a well designed unit. I set a few speed records and won many races, so I'd suggest he get some real riding learhers, rea okmotorcycle boots you have to fasten, and ride a little faster! But try that thing at Bonnevile, in my experience it'd add 10-15 mph or more. Happy Riding, Rubber side Down!
