I agree with others in these comments - huge mistake to remove that beautiful old skylight. Leaving at least some of the exposed brick would have been better too. Allowing a place like this to show it's age and working with what is already there connects it to the city it is in and it's history. Renovating all of that away - it could be anywhere in any new development in any city. But - very impressive transformation.

Loved this...tiny, but great for a single person or a student away from home or a limited bnb vacation home to rent out. Can't see anyone actually living here for any extended period of time given it's totally cramped feeling. I'd have kept the wide sunroof as a key fixture to the past. It was beautiful. Sad it was taken out. Missed opportunity even if refurbished with some wonderful stained glass from a passed era. Would have added to the value of the place. Also sad we didn't get a final view of the upstairs patio. You put so much work into sealing it, yet you didn't show it completed and finally furnished. So much potential and would have laid some lightweight, weatherproof mosaic tiles to give it character. You guys came so far, but just a wee bit short from a viewer perspective.

It's not too hard to gain the knowledge to do this work, but the financial part of it is just out of reach for so many. I bought my first home in 2016, very cheap it is an older home that needs work. But man, financially with our economy like it is right now, any remolding is a dream. I managed a new roof, but I have an extended part of the home that is lower, (two story) and couldn't afford to do the lower roof yet. There is alot of damage just from that alone. It is nice to see that there are some out there who are doing what I did in finding a home that needs work and actually getting to do the work though. Good luck, it turned out really beautiful.

Well done, but because they make the skylight much smaller, they should paint the walls in lighter colors so it looks bigger. Beige, gray or grayish, cream would be much better. What an impressive project. The dedication, skills and creativity on display here are quite exceptional. I love to see old long neglected properties brought back to life- they help retain the unique character and style of a community/district- too many buildings are simply knocked down and replaced with a soulless modern identikit box. I was captivated by the 28 minutes of this video. The final interior is very tasteful- someone has some serious interior design skills. Over the past 60 years I've lived and worked in many flat roofed buildings- every single one of them had some degree of water ingress and issues with dampness. The guys here appear to have undertaken a comprehensive approach to the flat roof problem but I still fear there will be problems ahead.

Very nice rebuild, but with the stairs coming down to the front door unless there is a super drainage system those stairs are going to act like a funnel and bring tons of water into that front door. Also, the lack of windows would drive me crazy. If it were me, I would have mounted a window sized flat screen televisions into several places in the wall where there might be a window. The TV's would have been thin enough to fit into the wall and they could have been framed to look like windows. Then I would have programmed them to display an outside scene, or even an aquarium. Flat screen televisions can be mounted vertically and are very inexpensive. A usb stick could have been plugged in to give either the same or different outside scenes. It would have been interesting to know in what city this construction occurred, because it was definitely not the U.S.

I get the feeling that back when it was built it was the old courtyard/ garden that they decided to put a roof over it and make it into a bed sit , he’s done a good job with what he’s done for the dimensions and size of it

My favorite part is how the women sit there watching as the men do all the work.

A nice job. If I could have done things a bit differently, I would have constructed the roof to have some pitch on it and replace the ‘lantern’ skylight with Velux windows. It might not have been possible if the drainage wasn’t suitable. It might have needed planning permission to change the roof design. It’s always better to have rain run-off even on a low pitch than a flat roof. All the same a very smart restoration.
