I have baby rabbits and baby deer in my backyard all the time, there is no end to their curiosity. A chipmunk tried to follow me inside my house because I was eating a cookie.

I had a close encounter with a wild rabbit and her young. I was in a low standalone hammock (frame and hammock combo) and a bunny bounced off my belly and then darted under the hammock since I had dug out a bit underneath to keep my butt from slamming to the ground when I sat up. I then saw four or five smaller bunnies bolting under the hammock to be with the other one. I quickly unfolded the sheet I was using to soften the fabric of the hammock (and absorb sweat) to hide the bunnies from the cat that was givng chase. After the cat left, the mama poked her head out, sniffed me then went to feeding her young underneath me... holding me hostage since I couldn't get out of the hammock without risking squishing the bunnies. Thankfully thirty or so minutes later all of them made their way back to the wooded edge of the property and under the shed where htey had a den.

My child had an “all I ever want is pets forever and ever!” phase and got a bunny. I have to tell you, that bunny grew on me like no dog ever has. We had such a special bond. She would circle me and pound the ground with her feet to get my attention and ear scratches. She would sit still and let me pet her for halves of hours at a time, which I am so profoundly grateful for. It was pure therapy. She died about 6 months ago. I still miss her all the time. R.I.P. I lived at home and my boyfriend gave me a bunny. My parents gave me a dog years before. Can you imagine my surprise when I was preparing to move out that my dog turned into the family dog, so my parents said I couldn’t take her. My mom then said my bunny would miss my dog too much and wouldn’t adjust to a new place. After a lot of arguing, I caved and left my bunny, too. My parents loved them so much and my parents were retired, so I knew it was the right decision. 24 years later, I still remind them that they are dog thieves and bunny thieves! 😂

My mother was smart about wee bunnies. Instead of getting angry about her vegetable garden getting filched by bunnies, she fenced it with chicken wire and then planted a Bunnies Only garden right next to it with free access, and grew all manner of Bibb lettuce, carrots, and other bunny-friendly fare. Robyn Dismon rabbits can fall prey to ALOT. As I mentioned before, squirrels, ravens, crowns, owls, house cats, etc. exposing a nest is risky. The reason rabbits keep it hidden is because of the fact it’s easy to get eaten especially being so young and small. The possibility is really low that they are in the clear. I wouldn’t be surprised if a bird far away began scouting the areas for it. The best solution if you find a nest is to leave it alone. Checking on it by exposing it briefly then covering it, without touching them should be fine. The mom will come back.

I used have had baby bunnies hop up to me when sitting out in my yard keeping on eye on my goats while they grazed (the yard wasn't fenced but they would come when called so I would let them free-range and read a book nearby to make sure they wouldn't wander off). LOL You don't know rabbits, Open your eyes he got 3 noise bumps that i could see. STRANGERS DON"T GET NOISE BUMP'S. A noise bump is rabbit body language saying "hello friend,what have you been up too and how are you feeling?" (checking your health by your nose). if they double bump it's "hello friend,what have you been up too and how are you feeling? This is what i've been up too(this is done by smell and they blow air through nose at the same time back at you). So mum would be friends with this person as a rabbit mum would not let her young kits anywear near a threat. She would know his smell and know her kits are safe from predator around him. My rabbit's run to me when they are scared.

@@mediavideos2176 All that human-scent stuff was disproven many many years ago. The only reason they may get abandoned is because the parent may see the nest/burrow disturbed and assume a predator is at the area, thus relocating or abandoning the area would be the safe choice, but this is only done by very few birds and ONLY when they are eggs. Human scent has nothing to do with it and mammals will not abandon their young so easily unless there is an imminent threat (as in a predator is obviously going to eat the babies so best option is to run).

@@kruton93 But what if you touch a fox then touch the baby rabbits? The mother would smell the predator and abandon them. The same could also apply if you own a cat or dog. Did the scientists touch a fox, cat or dog and then touch the baby rabbits to see if the mother rejected them? Where are the research papers?
