Bella Luna I thought the same, when we almost crashed in 2003, on an Airfrance flight aboard a 747, we were about to land in Brazil Sao Paulo, I was invaded by an incredible peace, at first the people were terrified, but then they were all left silent, which was very scary, "thank God, the pilot could get out of the electrical storm, it was something overwhelming, to be so close to the end of my life.

I was a single flight attendant on a Dornier 323 - a 32 pax airplane - and our landing gear froze and would not lock down. I had to prepare the cabin for an emergency landing. It was one of the most inexplicable feelings I have ever had - an inexplicable feeling of a 1000 boulder dropping in the pit of my stomach, mixed with incredible fear, a surge of adrenaline, and the dread and concern that comes with the reality of understanding that I alone was responsible for preparing those 30 people for the all to real possibility of a crash landing and making sure that every single one of them was as calm as possible and got out of that plane. And the feeling came in a nanosecond all at once. I will never forget it. Thank the Lord Almighty that the landing gear locked at the last second and everyone was perfectly fine but noone knew until the wheels hit the pavement. I will never forget it. But we are prepared and trained so rigorously and continuously that I didn't even have to think - I just acted and was ready. But I had a lot to do and I just know that being a pax would be so much worse because it would just be a feeling of complete helplessness.

As a pilot I want to remind everyone that your pilot really wants to live to, just a good way to look at things. (If for some reason your pilot does not want to live, there is a copilot who could easily grab the fire axe or do what he needs to go to incapacitate the pilot or vice versa who was having a "bad day" but that's an extreme longshot, but I know someone will ask)

We started to decline and, literally 5 minutes before landing we got response from military airport that we can land. On Cyprus. We waited 10-12 hours for the next plane, our first day of the vacation was obviously ruined. I was pretty much anxious when we needed to return home after vacation. I will never forget the turbulance while declining, darkness, red lines on the floor that showed exit, couples holding hands preparing to go together, some people screaming and little kinds crying... It was like a movie. I wasn't scared until we landed and I started shaking. It was all too unreal for me.

don't inflate your vest until you exit the aircraft. one lady in the back may have inflated hers and looks like flight attendent was helping her

What really makes it so scary is the lack of information. You don't know what is wrong and how bad it is. Is the plane crashing or is it just a minor problem?
@ran91779 жыл бұрын
At least it wasn't crashing

@atpl YES airplanes land on water, it's referred to as "Ditching". Every pilot is required by the FAA to "ditch" their aircraft properly in a simulator twice a year.

Jokes on them, the real danger was getting in the taxis afterwards. Cars kill more people in a day than planes do in a decade.

swimming isnt your problem. Its the temperature of the water and being found. As pointed out above the lifejacket will keep you floating.

Seems like mentioning a potential water landing should not be mentioned until a water landing appears more imminent.

U can't inflate the vest inside the plane. U hv to inflate it outside
@mieroth3 жыл бұрын
As has been said, for anyone else reading this, it needs to be highlighted that you absolutely can't inflate the vest inside the plane. Some people in previous accidents have panicked, done this, and then drowned in sinking planes because they couldn't escape. The life-vest will just pin you to the ceiling so you can't leave through the doors. If you accidentally inflate your air vest during a crash inside the plane you need to take it off immediately, it'll vastly improve your chances of survival.

@Mieroth.. 👍 And Anybody reading This, DO NOT EVER INFLATE YOUR LIFE VEST INSIDE AN AIRPLANE. EVEN IF YOU CRASH IN TO WATER. JUST SWIM OUT SIDE THE AIRPLANE AND INFLATE IT. INFLATING THE VEST INSIDE AN AIRPLANE WILL MAKE YOU IMPOSSIBLE TO SWIM. 🔴ONLY INFLATE VEST AFTER YOU ARE OUTSIDE.PLEASE.

Michael Holmes aircraft weighed more then they anticipated. So landing on the runway would have be a tragic. Blown tires, landing gear and possibly explosion.
@HayleyHart6 жыл бұрын
Mike Coppola They did land on a runway, and they landed safely. I watched a documentary about plane crashes, and this particular one was shown. And the man filming this video was on the programme and talked about it. The pilot managed to locate a landing strip on a nearby island that was used for the military. The details of the plane malfunction were never publicly released. The only statement given was that they started to smell and see a bit of smoke in the cockpit
@OmsoiTekken4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelc1154 What? The aircraft weighed more than they anticipated so instead of dumping fuel to lose weight they decided they'd land on the freaking ocean? BS!

When I was faced with death, it was one of the most BLISSFUL experiences of my life. Humans clearly have no understanding of what death is. Because it was bliss for me. It was a state of total relaxation… yes the memories of your life flash, but they’re memories that are stone carved into your heart. You relive moments you cherish the most in your life during the time of facing death and it’s crazy how all fear just went absent. It didn’t exist.

As a retired flight attendant who flew the 10 day Narita, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore trip every month out of Detroit on the 747-400, I'll take 4 engines over the 2 on widebodies making that trip today. Northwest Airlines was the first to take delivery of the Boeing Queen, and she always brought us all home safe and sound.
