Almost all the comments blaming Rachel rather than Philippe. Shows why people don't ask for help. Blaming everything on her while the man abused his daughter. If Chantel had issues so did her mother. Why does she not get sympathy? Both women made bad decisions in their youth based on their past trauma. The one who knew what he was doing was Philippe.

The problem with Rachel is that she didn't learn from her mistakes.. that's the reason everyone is blaming her because everytime she chooses to commit the same mistake again and again and that negatively affected both her and her daughter's life

He was honest and upfront with the mother from the jump, he didn't want marriage unless she was rich and he also begged her to have his child which she did. He still didn't change the fact he didn't want to be married. From day one when he wouldn't hold his daughter, she should have never left him around that child alone. He only built a connection with her the same way he did the mother because they both were fatherless. He used him not being around to seduce, manipulate and molest his own daughter. People wonder why some parents be skeptical of the other parent when they are absent for years on top of years and all of sudden they want a relationship with their child, then if they don't allow the child to bond with that absent parent they look like the villain. That father was a disgusting and manipulative man throughout and that's why he started molesting the daughter after the mother denied him sex and told him never again. If it wasn't for that one guy telling the mother because the daughter told him, she wouldn't know it happened. Of course the mother could have chose a better man to have a child with. That doesn't take away the fact the father was a manipulative, narcissistic and controlling pedophile.

Definitely not the only one! I literally said this throughout the video. I almost threw my phone each time she ignored the red flags. But in Rachel's defense, alot of times women fall weak to the pressures of society to have children or get married before a certain age and they will take whatever they can get in an attempt to fulfill a "duty" instead of being fulfilled

The father was touching on his daughter thats not justifiable. They were better off without him but you deny a child a right to their father youre bad , she wanted to atleast give her daughter that , granted she could spoke on the abuse earlier, started therapy for her daughter earlier. 2:07 She is smart......*Which is a lie* 5:15 Rachel knows how hard it is to grow up without a father *So she purposely dooms her own child to the same fate.* 7:06 She knows it will hurt Chantel one day knowing that her father didn't think her important enough to carry his name *Just exactly as Rachel didn't think it be important to pick a good father.* 8:09 She get a job as a secretary at a psychiatric hospital *Oh the irony lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* 12:43 She treats Rachel as if all the wrong in her life are her fault *Because they kind of are...* 12:46 She idolizes Philippe *so mother-like daughter.* 13:56 Philippe is a difficult man to deal with and he mistreats her calling her names and saying she doesn't have a proper education *Wait until she finds out those are all the qualities her mother knew about Philippe and stays with him regardless.* 16:40 Like her mother before her was also deceived by pretty words and false platitudes *Which are the lies she tells herself. Philippe while he's a bad person, he never lied about his intention nor did he lead her to false promises, he was always upfront about his character...again like mother-like daughter smh* 16:59 Now that she's a mother she understands the struggles her mother went through to raise her... *I would believe that except, **18:17* 17:42 She never understood Chantal's constant need to seek approval with Philippe *...oh the irony* 19:44 Philippe prayed on her from the very beginning *Lol yeah right!!!!!!! Because telling you the truth and continually telling you that he hates marriage and kids and just wants to live a rich life was somehow trickery lol* 20:52 Chantel finally understands that her mother is as much of a victim as she is and Philippe is the real villain of the story, not Rachel. *No that is just what you decided to go with after all this time. *Rachel is 100% the villain of this story. She has managed to take zero responsibility for her actions, plays right into every bad decision, and ignores every single warning sign ever. Can't blame a shark for eating you when someone puts up fences and beware of deadly shark signs and you go swim in those waters covered in chum.*

@@user-lu5kg5ek7z Maybe, but never once did she reach out to others (let alone take their words into account) who do know about love, even if it was from an mere acquaintance. Besides, Philippe may have been a detached manipulator who took advantage of another's weakness, but I can't say that everything bad that happened to Rachel was exclusively his doing from when they had their picnic; she enabled the man'd evil for way to long by clinging to a hope that was never true, putting her hand on the stove so many times there's barely a hand left to burn. The best I can say about the protagonist, however, was that she was pitiful; her father abandoned her, she was the only single employee at her workplace and set her eyes on a man who has many talents, never bothering to criticize their differences… or her own judgement in character. Many can empathize with this (from non-romantic examples, no less) and so we learn when to quit on the spot next time, but one must also tell the difference between loving someone for who they are and loving someone for what they have. I guess what I'm trying to say with all of this is that finding the right person isn't about being happy with what they have, but rather on questioning who they are.

At the beginning of the recap, its stated that Chantal is the one narrating the story. Did she write a book? Since at the end she is pissed at Rachel, is that why we get a version of the story that shows her as very much naive, who didn't see the abuse/disinterested signs a mile along? Is this why we dong get a resolution to Rachels own father and his supposed wealth?

At first I was like wtf?! Who does this? This is so stupid. Rachel is so stupid. And Phillipe is so stupid. And this is just a movie. This never happens. Then I thought about it more and more and more. Omg! This is way more common than I first thought. It happened in my family line too. It happened with my mother and father. A story where one parent knows the vulnerabilities of another parent so they can get what they want without having to take care of the giant responsibility "their child. I then thought it has happened to my friends! Two of my best friends. They even had this theme of mother/daughter with a once a decade father in the prided, praised TV show "Gilmore Girls" After watching this I went online typing up "natural birth control methods" and "natural contraceptives. I didn't want to take any chances on any lurking Phillipes out there. Lol. This is why one of my favorite all time lines is by Halsey "How the Warning Signs can Feel like they're Butterflies." This is what happens when we fall for the butterflies thinking it's disguised as true love. The butterflies were her warning signs to get the f**k out! But she kept staying thinking Phillipe would change. But a tiger never changes it's stripes, or some old saying like that. In this cause Phillipe never stopped being an asshole.
