rubberhamburger length has nothing to do with it. You could (in theory) have a straight truck with a 53’ box and it still wouldn’t be a semi. A semi consists of a trailer and a seperate power unit that are coupled through a 5th wheel thus allowing them to be easily seperated and also to articulate at the point where the pin is locked into the 5th wheel.

I was a service tech for a cable T.V. company back in the early 80's. My biggest fear was that someone would actually run into vehicle itself despite flashing warning lightes.orange pylons, etc... I never imagined someone actually hitting the bucket. Then again cell phones wern't around either.

I work in the commercial/ industrial construction industry and today we have High vis,hard hats ,reflective vests,safety glasses,fall protection, a spotter for lift work,permits for what work that’s being done, a list of possible things that can happen and what to do to prevent it from happening and on and on. If they would have done that along with just using common sense this would never have happened. ☠️

I drive a truck for a living and a lot of small towns you come through, you come up on these "bucket" trucks at traffic lights just hanging out over traffic, just like this video, no warning, no signs, no nothing, and as a truck driver you are like wth, I hope there "high" enough. Vest wouldn't,have done anything here. You coumd clearly see the men working. Driver obviously thought well bucket must be high enough or they would have lane blocked. This was 100 percent workers fault lane sbould have been shut down and truck parked in roda with bucket raised behind it. So any impact would bit truck and not bucket.

I drove a press operator to the hospital when he lost 2 fingers in the gears of a very old printing press. Moved to a new location with a new press with up-to-date safety features. I was responsible for everyone in the pressroom using hearing protectors. In 1979 I started my own printing business and we had 21 years with an excellent safety record. Being an I&E Tech, it is my responsibility to make sure that everything is locked out, and the entire area is secure and marked properly, before beginning my project. This was not the truck driver's fault. The lane should have been blocked and marked with cones and signs.

I had a stoned co-worker lift the Outriggers and drive off with me still fully extended in the bucket. He went about three blocks through a neighborhood tearing down every phone line and cable line there was with me screaming at the top of my lungs the only thing that stopped him was me disconnecting my hydraulic pole saw and throwing it down on the headache rack of the truck. He slammed the brakes on and I whipped around like a lollipop 50 feet in the air

If this had been an old style metal basket, it probably would have wrapped around the worker's legs or worse. Contractor at fault for at the very least not having a sign / arrow truck blocking the lane. The worker was placed in danger. Site supervisor / foreman should be fired.

Look If you dont cone the lane Its NO ONES fault but your own crews. Theres no ifs and or buts. The safety measures are In place for a reason and they ignored them.

Sometimes they send you out there with no road permits but still want the job done. Might not be allowed to block the lane. crazy incident

I don't understand why It happened. Did they not do there "risk and method statment" and then there point of work risk assessment. As we all know those bits of paper will save your life, and you don't have to think as its all written on that bit of paper..

Wow that is definitely on the construction guys they should’ve had the lane closed or Been above the marked height for vehicles

That’s carelessness on the part of repair guys. Could’ve been worst but fortunately nothing serious happened.
