Wow, that's a horrible feeling when you can't breathe. Thank God his friend was there.

You can breathe in the snow somewhat, the problem is the carbon dioxide doesn't escape. The feeling of being suspended in the snowpack and not being able to move a thing not a fun experience

Pretty sure he was trying to say he tried pulling his airbag. Happened so fast, literally swallowed him up. Thank God for his friend's awareness and quick reaction to just get there. Had he been fully buried, I have no doubt this guy would have been successful with his beacon, probe and shovel.

I'm not so sure. He saw him, didn't have to search. If he was buried much, he would have to locate him then dig him out. You hear how hard the rescuer was breathing after doing about nothing? What kind of shape was he in to crawl over the debris for a few minutes, then dig for 5 minutes without rest? Good outcome though. Gotta like that.

Perfect example of why you always keep eyes on your riding partners while climbing. All mountain sledders should take avy training. If you guys had taken the course, you would’ve know that a fresh storm slab like that on a 30-45 degree slope is just waiting for a trigger.
