I guess I'm the artist formally known as Lefthand here. I helped Shammers record and mix the SHMIX TAPE album 12+ years ago. At that time Shammers was attending college and I had just graduated audio engineering school. We did not expect our little internet time capsule to be dug up on a podcast today. Thanks for strapping us into a hot dog rocket ship down memory lane. It has made my day to hear discourse around something we made to make ourselves and others laugh at way back then. To know that others are enjoying it today in whatever way they see fit, equally so. (And yes, a lot of these tracks were instrumentals we pulled from the internet at the time) This album and subsequent tours with Scrub Club were some of the wildest times of my life and we have stories that could fill an entire book. The diversity of people we came across while attending conventions, parties, and the subsequent drunken-fueled escapades that happened in between were weird, surreal, and hilarious. We oftentimes shared hotel rooms with other artists at these shows and were paid just enough with merch and ticket sales for gas and food. The culture around the collective itself was in its own dimension and oftentimes completely separated from reality. It was a fine time to have a devil-may-care attitude and I was fortunate enough to have my best friend Shammers by my side the entire time. Doing fun, creative work with friends is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. I often wonder how different things would've been had KZbin, TikTok, and other various forms of social media been a viable path to go down professionally back then. We really just did it for the fun of it. We've only kept the tracks up for this long to share anytime the subject of us being in a Nerdcore group gets brought up. While I can only speak for myself, I suppose it also serves as a point of reference anytime I need a reminder of how far I have come as a musician and audio engineer. Having somewhere to point to helps you see how much progress you've made and is a healthy reminder that you have learned a thing or two, both creatively and as a human being. If anyone out there is feeling the same about their own creative work, I'd implore you to dig up some of your prior material, see how far you’ve come, and then reassess your mode of thinking. After you’ve done that, maybe come over for a BBQ sometime…our Man Meat is off the hook.

My Dad liked his time in Japan, he sent me things often and loved the media and etc before he went. I grew up with a lot of it as well by the time I was a young adult I kind of was more interested in seeing more American media to share with my international friends and just in general. My Dad actually sent me a summer kimono gifted to him by a coworker (I can’t remember what it’s called) when I was like early primary school so maybe 6-7 to have a photo to share with his coworkers. He kept that photo in his wallet for many years because he said I had lost some teeth and that made it extra cute. I kept in contact with that coworkers daughters as penpals until high-school, it was very fun to send teenage things back and forth. I believe my Dad still keeps in contact with some of his friends overseas. I know my great grandfather does because he can actually write and speak fluently.

I remember the one time I visited New York City. It was the middle of winter, and I was in town to see a Carpenter Brut show. The Air BNB I rented wasn't even a room: it was a section of some dude's one-room, closet-sized apartment. He created the illusion of privacy by stacking up some book shelves and then draping a curtain over them. The two beds my roommate and I had been promised were a couple of air mattresses on the floor. I got lost three times in the subway trying to get to the concert, and another two times trying to get back to the Air BNB late at night, while it was snowing. And don't even get me started on the hell that is driving into, out of, and through NYC. New York ain't worth it: I'm not going back
