In fact, the police agencies aren't even the ones who have to pay for all the settlements they fork over to citizens. They simply pass it on to TAXPAYERS and the police department stills gets their full annual budget regardless of how much was paid out because of their wrongdoing. Police agencies are NEVER punished for their poor behavior or when they outright break the law. Police have somehow managed to completely insulate themselves all the way down to a personal level from having any direct action taken against them. @@buhdahto You're probably right, but normally from these kind of cases and I've read a lot of them, the media will quite often even add that no charges were filed against the officers. Every article only addressed the money won and it was not for sure yet, if the Austin dept would file an appeal or not. But also no new reports on whether an appeal had been filed. I'm surprised that is not listed. Remember also that it was only one officer, who tackled the civilian. He may have kept his job, but he had to have been shamed and reprimanded by his fellow officers and supervisors. But that may be all he got.

Easy fix for all this. The police officers get their own insurance policy's. The borough covers the initial cost of the policy and if there is any claims it goes to that policy holder not the tax payers. When the price of the policy goes up after claims the officer has to cover that. Once it gets cost prohibitive as it will if he or she has claims against it they will not be able to afford the insurance and hence that will weed out all the bad cops. Very easy

We had a similar situation during COVID. We (group of parents) sued our school district over mask mandates (which are not legal in Texas). They brought up every little delay they could because each delay cost money. And we had to give up because they had unlimited money compared to us citizens. Then we discovered the surety bond route which allows us to go after school officials personally. 2 days after requesting that information they announced that effective immediately there was no more mask mandate. Funny how personal accountability changes things 🤔🤔🤔
