The bullet he loads into the gun for Samuel is the same one that misfired when he tried to commit suicide at the start of the movie. That is the “truth” he was referring to. It wasn’t time for Creasy to die but it was time for Samuel.

I know a young guy who pulled the trigger on himself once & it did not go off. Turns out due to drinking so much his pistol was not kept functional & the bullet itself was fine. Either way it scared the shit out of him & he changed a few things. I personally lost my shit as a friend when he told me & shamed him about his family and more. Suicide is never the way, even if you have no family or friends. I've been in dark places & used to easily drink a bottle of Jack each night just like Creasy (p[lease keep all guns in a locked safe) and still work 5 days a week. Shit life to live. I'll also say you can't just change it by thought. It takes a lot of courage and support. Anyone reading this feel free to message me. I'm 40yrs old & failing the first time is common. Don't feel like a failure if you do. I still struggle.

Yeah, same here. I usually don't like the Ex-Elite-Soldier-Takes-Revenge movies, because most of them are pretty crappy, with too much plot armour and ridiculous capabilities of the protagonist (e.g. The Equalizer, and the incredibly stupid John Wick movies). But this one was realistic, showing nothing a dedicated soldier couldn't do in real life.

The original Man on Fire took place in Italy, and was based on a book. It starred Scott Glenn. This remake was moved to Mexico and was inspired by the real life kidnapping gang led by the Arizmendi brothers Daniel and Aurelio (same first names as in the movie). They were known as the "Ear Loppers" because they would cut off the ears of their victims and send the ears to the victims' families.

Creasy was badly hurt. He knew he was not gonna make it. He distracted them so that Peta and her mom could escape safely. Denzel Washington and the director Tony Scott worked together for a second time in "Deja vu" (2006). I recommend the movie, it's really good. It has the same feel as this movie. Hey knew that he had give his Life to save her’s and his Soul...He was given the chance of Redemption for his dark past. Early on he asked his friend..“Will God ever Forgive us for what we have done?..” So then after him failing to end his Pain and Life with a bullet that doesn’t go off. And the explanation for that is his friend saying that “sometimes it will tell the truth”..which is that he can’t go to Hell from suicide because he already is in a living Hell. He is the Man on Fire because he’s covered and consumed by the flames of rage and anger, which were given to him from the Evil’s and Wickedness of those in charge, making him an artist of Death. But then the darkness that casted over his Soul was brightened by the innocents of the child. Giving him hope for a new purpose in life....but the “Truth” purpose was to Sacrifice his life to finally be allowed peacefully into Thy Loving Kingdom of Heaven..

That is the flip side. People normally talk about how she is very kind, open heart, cries a lot, expressive, and compassionate. Then comes the harsh, cruel punishment to off-set that (as it's relative to who we are talking about). She loves the young girl, but hates the bad guys. It's interesting for me to watch, from a kind of social experiment standpoint, to see their reactions, as they tend to be more dual-natured in this way compared to male reactors. For example, they all cried early on and agreed that kidnapping was wrong, and cared about the young and good guy, etc., but then they all agreed that torture was moral/correct, which is very interesting. This, strangely, goes far beyond how a male would react. For example, the woman on the far end was happy about the torture and said, 'nice' (around 27:53). Never seen a man ever say something like that to any movie, ever. Though these are made more for men, and is a clear kind of extreme justice story, it's very interesting how men and women tend to have different views of such things, and different ethics in this regard (where men tend to want justice, and women want revenge).

Creasy is laden with the sins he's committed. The finale is his atonement. ... Folks have been suggesting their favorite Denzel movies. His death was important for two reasons. For himself, the reason you've described is exactly why. His own death would atone for the sins of his past. His death was also important for Pita, b/c it showed her how a father (or any parent) *should* be: willing to sacrifice everything for their children. Sacrificing your very life (whether it means giving up all of your own desires or it means dying) for someone else is one of the greatest expressions of love we can give.

Writer Brian Helgeland first saw the original Man on Fire (1987) when he was renting videos in the late '80s. He walked in to the video store where Quentin Tarantino was working and asked what was good. Tarantino recommended Man on Fire (1987). Most of the scenes between Denzel Washington and Christopher Walken were completely improvised. Radha Mitchell was intimidated when she first met Dakota Fanning. "I want to meet her when she's 25. I think she's going to knock everybody out." Denzel Washington was so impressed with Dakota Fanning's acting that he'd watch her and forget he was in the scene. The kitchen scene between Creasy and Pita, where she asked him about concubines, was mostly ad-libbed. It started when they "accused" each other of smiling. Dakota Fanning took piano, swimming, and Spanish lessons for her role. Dakota Fanning had a "stunt-belcher" because she couldn't do it. Dakota Fanning wrote everything in the diary herself. Dakota Fanning's first day of shooting was for the scene where Creasy takes Pita to school for the first day. The kidnappers are modeled after the infamous Arizmendi gang, who made $300 million in ransom in six years.

In the alternate ending Creasy gets taken to The Voice. As they converse Creasy asks Daniel "Do you see the hand of God in what you do?" To which Daniel replies "Do you?". Creasy then says "I hope so", right before his pager watch beeps, revealing that Creasy "keistered" a bomb which explodes and kills both of them.

So, when you said near the end, that Creasy must have a bomb on him or something - well, in the alternative ending, you are right. And remember when you said, no, he won't have, because they searched him, well, again, you were right. Remember that explosive he placed up the bottom of that other guy he killed? Creasy had one of those, and in the alt ending, he doesn't die in the car, he makes it to the Voice's house. He sits down with him - still badly injured - and just as the Voice goes to shoot him, Creasy's watch reaches 0. Then booooommm!!!

At 33:28, "what weapon is this?" It's an RPG-7 (RPG stands for "Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomyot" "hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher") developed in the Soviet Union in the 1950s. It's a rocket propelled grenade which can be anti-tank or high explosive against infantry. RPGs are used around the world and pretty common, since the Soviets and later Russia, sold them to a ton of countries and supplied them to many guerilla movements.

I'm glad they went the way they did cramming INA romance and neat tyed up with a bow ending would have made this just another movie to be forgotten. The absolute and pure love between Creasy and pita gave the movie all the emotional depth it needed without any distractions. Him killing himself would have destroyed his redemption arc because it would have been a mortal sin. It was a movie about love justice and redemption not hate and indiscriminate violence.

I first watched this movie because my mom told to me Marc Anthony was acting in it (Pita's father). Because he's a salsa singer of which we are fan (and also Jennifer's Lopez ex, father of her child). I started watching and thought : "Wait, what ? Denzel Washington is in it too ? You had to start there !" One of my favorite movies with Fight Club. And it's still a good movie with Marc Anthony for my mom 😅

Creasy was not recovered from the kidnapping gunfire when he started his revenge as seen on the scenes where he goes in the pool and blood gushes out of his wounds. He was nearly dead by the time of the interchange and chose to die in peace knowing that Pita was safe. I believe there is an alternate ending of him hiding a bomb in his body like he did with the corrupt chief and then blows up when arriving at the Voice's hideout.

Hi Homies, what a wonderful reaction. I love this movie but I want you to know this is a true story. John Creasy saved Lupita Ramos from a kidnaping mafia in Mexico at the cost of his own life. He helped to bring down the ring and saved countless of future victims. Much love and keep on keepin on J.

Denzel deserved an Oscar, as well many of the cast and production crew. One of few movies that sticks with me still. A story of redemption. Authentico. Sometimes in life some can't or wont see or recapture value of true self until it's put us against a wall. He could have been content with walking out after the situation, but more important he rediscovered that integrity, purpose and justice is worth than anything. Pita reminded Creasy of his value, sorta was his guardian angel. Then he became hers.
