I notice a difference between Fields' physical humor and that of Laurel an Hardy: L&H will go for a BIG prat fall, while Fields will do the fall, then build on it, adding one joke after the other. He stumbled down the stairs, crashed through the door, fell down the basement stairs, then landed on the pistol, which, after a couple of beats, went off. He then threw the gun away, which went off again. After that, he discovered he was sitting on a board with a nail in it. Only after all that, does he successfully get up off the floor.
