When I was born, I had 2 big brothers. One of them was a German Shepard and his name was King. He use to sleep under my crib EVERY night! No one could come near that crib besides my mother. Every time I would crawl towards the front gate, King would be right there and he would pull me back by my diaper. If I cry, he would lick every teardrop until I stopped and if I didn't stop, King would get my mother. King was the best big brother any little girl could have! This is beautiful!

Ive now got my lovely GSD Reno, we have already got a special bond, and we love our long walks, he had been badly abused most of his life, now at 7 years old, he will be with me now and i see happiness in his eyes already. x

I had never owned a dog, but when I agreed to rescue one that was a day away from being put down to give it a comfortable loving home I since have been rewarded with more gratitude, love and loyalty than a person like me could ever be worth. Truly man's closest incarnation of a guardian angel.

Ive been really touched by this video. It Brings back memories of my Pet German Sheperd. , 'Bruno' who passed away on the 16th of May 2005 at the age of 13. there is no day that passes by when we dont think of our Bruno. Losing him was like loosing a very inportant part of my life. The only consolation is that bruno is in a better place now. "We Love You Bruno"

I've watched this video handfuls of times, and I always cry. And then I go hug my dogs, one German Short-haired pointer, one German Shephard mix, and one Rottie mix. They have given me more love, more loyalty and more companionship than I could have ever gotten from another human.

Beautiful tribute. I was a Sentry Dog Handler during during the Vietnam War and served in Thailand. I have grieved all these years for the dog I had to leave behind. Thanks for the Video. Brings back some memories. As being one of the last U.S. dog handlers out of south east asia, I know not many came came back after long and proud service. I am so proud of the new law allowing the retirment of the service dogs to civilian life now if they are found to be able to readjust. DA, thank you too. It is up to ALL of us Americans to remember. Now I know how everybody in 1941 felt. I look at the pictures of Dargo when he came off of the plane from Germany, how he played in the yard at his first snowfall, and how he came right to work when called. I can't even claim to fully comprehend it as my wife was the one who went, but I know what it felt like when Dargo collapsed in front of me from his work. I saw it, and I mourn every day. Military & police dogs never get enough credit for the jobs they do and you guys do not get enough credit for great service to humanity with help of those great 4-legged partners. Working K-9s have always been the love of my life, they never leave my site, I help training them & I comfort them when they retire. Beautiful tribute! Reminds me our own German Shep "Butch" -the most intelligent of our brood of dogs, I think. And there's a "Mako" in this video -and what a coincidence that Butch had a grandson called Mako! (We've lost Butch to old age at 13yo) Our family always have 1 or more dogs in the house, to us they're family. We really appreciate this video, reminds us of the NatGeo episode about dogs in the war. We cried on that one too, too much I think my brothers were all choked up on that one.

I found your beautiful tribute shortly after you posted it. I've visited it many times over the ensuing years, the last time probably half a year or more ago. Now I learn several of your hero's have departed. It was inevitable, but it is SO sad that man's best friend is so short-lived. My dogs are my best friends, always there for me. Even now my Lab is nudging for attention. I have worked with K9's that's why I now have a Springer Spaniel as well. Love your dog, no better friend. What a great post!!

I bought Heidi from a puppy mill but I did not know any better at the time. She's my best friend. What can you do? We rescued Neitjie the day before she was to be put down. She'd been used as a breeder and was used up. We love her so much!
