I read this book years ago. The thing that stuck in my mind was a passage about finding any task and making it meaningful. For example, you can sweep the street where you live and find meaning in that. There is no shame as long as you live a purposeful life.

"Finding meaning in suffering to avoid it turning into despair"....man that hits close to home, that's something i've been struggling a lot with thanks to depression - feeling completely hopeless and despairing....this really helps me reframe my view on my life experiences :) Thank you!!

"Freedom, however, is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibleness. In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast." One of my favorite parts of the book. Everyone is concerned for their freedoms and liberties, but few people are concerned for upholding their responsibilities.

I like this channel, congratulations. I recently reread this book after having suggested it to a friend who is going through a tough period. The other ideas in the book I cherish are: 1. the paradigm shift from "what life can do for me" to "what I can do for life" and 2. anyone will always own the way to behave in any given situation.

I love these videos and I loved reading this book. What I feel is missed in this summary is that Frankl describes a sort of relativistic sense of meaning - if you're in particularly dire circumstances, you can find meaning in the smallest of things such as appreciating a beautiful view, and as your circumstances changes, so can your sense of meaning. It doesn't have to be some grand life purpose that you should always be trying to fulfil. The point is that the conscious effort to find meaning - wherever it may be drawn from - is what keeps people from spiralling into depression.

The definition of love given in this video is a much more healthy definition than what most people mix up with westernised romantic love. In a lot of poorer countries where the biggest thing they have is each other, they already understand the kind of love described in the video.
