@@bellawilliamson3361 it's called obtaining money under false pretenses which is a form of fraud and what most pawnshops charge you with for bringing in stolen merch. just because it might look shady doesn't mean it is. you can't run a fair business if you're unfairly profiling everyone. if it feels too shady you can turn the transaction down or not offer as much to control your losses, but if you keep doing that to people that are legit you soon don't have product coming in. the pawnshop is just as much a victim as the person or store the stuff was taken from. pawnshops have gotten a bad rap from movies. but most of them are legit businesses. there is so much regulatory red tape and fees running one, they don't want stolen merch.

@@bellawilliamson3361 worked in the business for 15 years, have a great relationship with law enforcement in our area. and like i said are there shady brokers out there? yes. i just don't like that you are lumping them all together, its just like anything else there is always one, but the majority are legit and do not want stolen merch. stolen merch causes more problems than what it is worth. there are red flags to look out for, but you don't know the person's background for why they have 5 of the same item. i can't tell you how many tens units have crossed my counter, wheel chairs and mobility scooters. we had to stop taking them because they simply didn't sell. we had a guy come in and sell us an entire inventory of misc harley parts and accessories, guess what he owned a business that delt in that, that went under. i could tell you all kinds of stories. hell i have to go to court soon over a guy selling us all kinds of sports memorabilia. he knew all about it. the guy that committed the worst crime we ever dealt with was our diamond seller, whom had been dealing with for 8 years. started out as legit business, then the guy had some mental health problems stole upwards of $50k diamonds. we recovered 20k luckily through our relationship with law enforcement. we joked about starting a channel with all our stories. most time people develop these bad opinions through tv, or bad experience because they didnt pay their debt.
