I’m tired of people stating that they wouldn’t sue family. If family has done something wrong like not honoring a will, you SHOULD sue them. It’s MORALLY CORRUPT for the sister to NOT follow the will and have her brother incur expenses when the will says for her to pay for the funeral. He has every right to sue her and should. It is likely they already had a contentious relationship, but it doesn’t even matter if they were very close. She can’t do that.

I feel for the brother. When my father died, he left me a small insurance policy that he took out when I was born. He didn’t do that with the 3 that followed. My mother was physically and verbally abusive and we did not get along. She threatened to sue me if I didn’t split it 5 ways - 4 children and her. She would have lost, but I split it with my brothers and sister anyway. That was 1973. Three years ago my mother died. She left everything to my brother - $250,000 house paid for. All her $, stocks - everything. My sister got a $50,000 life insurance policy and she had borrowed $25,000 from my mother she never pd back. My other brother and I got nothing. My brother who got everything paid the entire funeral bill. My sister contributed nothing. My brother helped me buy a house - he pd the entire closing costs and I took over the mortgage payments. The house is in both our names. When my sister found out he helped me, she went nuts. She literally got 75k, pd nothing towards the funeral, stole from my mother when she was alive, and has called me a user. She conveniently forgot I gave her 25% of my father’s insurance. I have no relationship with her, and I don’t care. I feel sorry for my younger brother who did nothing to anyone and was left out in the cold. Sometimes, family just sucks.

My dad left me almost everything. He left my brother some cash. My two sisters were left nothing. They went ahead and tried to sue for a quater each. I decided to split the house and cash equally between the 4 of us, which avoided legal fees coming out of the estate. My dad told me if I gave them anything he’d come back and haunt me. At the end of the day, they are his daughters and it was fair to give everyone an equal share. My brother ended up with much more and I’m happy for him. Two sisters got what they wanted and I was still able to move interstate and buy a cheaper house for myself and my children. People should respect their parents will’s but most of the time greed sets in.

I nearly died last year and was in a coma, and it's very true that some people can still hear you while in a coma depending on their level of consciousness. My family was talking about my death and placing me in a nursing home at 35 years old. There was talks about my money and house, nobody though I could hear them. I eventually had brain surgery and woke up and told them I heard almost everything, when I was able to remember it again. What she did reminds me of what almost happened to me.

To all saying family shouldn't sue family. Some of you haven't had drug addicts as family members, who lie, cheat, and steal away your parent's estate. Or forcing a parent to do a quick claim on the family house, a family member that was in jail over this. Some of us don't have the most caring and stable family members. Or the son wasn’t involved in his father’s life until he became sick. Some adult children are like that meanwhile others stay close. If he really wanted to be more involved, he could’ve uplifted his life. 8 visits in 3 months isn’t that many visits when you were fighting to see that person in court. The father perhaps saw that the daughter moved in as a kind gesture that the son could or couldn’t do. We don’t know. Way too many assumptions, projecting issues onto these people from viewers’ family drama and not enough facts ib this comment section.

That is due to greed of one to take advantage of a dying person and leave the family to the wayside. Sad but happens. Even with the person's things when they die the siblings will often battle over the silliest things. Clothes, furniture, appliances, liqueur, medications, and the house. Sadly even money, less the better.

"Harass me" No! He was asking for the money that you blatantly owed him. I had a not too dis-similar situation where I received a lawyer's letter instructing me to persist from harassing my sister. When they heard my side of the story they shared my sentiments and basically told her that she was at fault. Side note: This was a sister I gave money to, to my house and thereafter to fix it up (not a loan but a gift).

He did have an airtight will the expressed his wishes. That's why the son won. The estate, if there is one, should cover the expenses of the deceased. Sister is a tool and deserved the humiliation. She had the house and furniture and the WILL stated she was to pay for it out of the estate. How much more clear can you get?

My step father went through one hell of a backstabbing battle with his siblings when his father finally died. Long story short, the sister screwed over the 2 brothers by using the nurse as a proxy and from what information I got she forged the will to exclude the brothers. So, the brothers teamed up and got a lawyer to try and get what was rightfully theirs...they battled for a while before ending it, don't believe they got anything. Then the one brother goes and stabs the other brother(my dad) in the back with the lawyer fees. And just like that, none of them ever spoke to each other ever again. It's also speculated that the sister took savings bonds that were meant for the grandchildren (myself included) and either destroyed them or forged them. Sad how money can tear a family apart like that, for years before that the whole family would get together on Thanksgiving and have a grand time.

My mother passed two months ago and my younger two brothers were her primary carers. She didnt own a home but had some gold assets she wanted the youngest to have which all the siblings agreed to. I am sure that Dad wanted the daughter to stay in the home so that is why she got it. She would always have a home and probably was not very good at providing for herself in the first place. He knew that the son could take care of himself, so he did not leave him anything. He did not want to split the house because the daughter could not buy out the brother's share so that it would have to be sold.

She was taking care of the father for 5 years. And what if her father was bedridden. So she worked really hard if she took care of her father correctly. She didn't make any money, pay into retirement or social security, wasn't able to enjoy life or probably get a break. This literally happens to me. In the will, the representative (the defendant) was supposed to pay for the funeral from the estate. However, the plaintiff had to pay some of the funeral expenses. What the defendant did was underhanded and manipulative. It is possible she exercised that same mindset with her father and that was why she got everything. Lesson: Be aware that where money is concerned from the deceased, a persons true colours comes out.

My sister-in-law kept me from seeing or talking to my brother. She even told the funeral home that my brothers side of the family was NOT allowed to go to his funeral and if any of us showed up we would be escorted off the premises by the police. I have a deep hatred for this "woman". I hope she gets everything that's coming to her. she wouldn't even give our side of the family any of his ashes.

It's sickening that relatives can come swooping in as if they're vultures to peck apart whatever is left behind. All the plaintiff wanted was that the defendant, his sister, followed the duties given in the last will. She got EVERYTHING and she was still too petty to follow through and pay for the funeral. Instantly making excuses for herself when asked for the will. The will states she's the representative and that she should pay the funeral. It's disgusting that with everything left to her, she claims it all but then leaves her brother a bill for the funeral, KNOWING she was supposed to take care of it.

My sister had my mom do a reverse mortgage on her home. She took all that extra money and added onto her home. When mom died she claimed it was a gift. The money to pay back the reverse mortgage was taken out of the estate. People really become evil greedy when it comes to money.

Whenever I saw case of sibling's dispute over an inheritance, it makes me sad 😢 the parents earned all of those while their children just need to take care of it as family. Taking care of our parents in their old age is a form of love and gratitude. BUT everyone got their own perspectives, consideration, and different thoughts about it, I understood.

In general, people should prepay for their own arrangements and not leave the financial burden on children or other family members. Neither of my parents wanted funerals, but prepaid their cremations, but no matter what you want for your funeral, pay for it yourself. You're a grown up, just act like one and make sure you all your affairs will be left in order long before you need them.

It's sad how family allow money come between a relationship. Don't know who to blame but not allowing the plaintiff to see his own dad, when the days was near. It is kind of sad and he had to take it to court to see his father. Happy he was able to see his dad before it was too late. Does rhe defendant understand that tge type of ENERGY she provided could done emotional damage to their late father. People are sometimes selfish. Correct me if I am wrong, the brother paid a little over 1k of funeral expensive even though the sister fought him about seeing thwie own father. Deep down i think both were greedy. Its more to the story because the defendant was taking care of their father. So sad really 😢

Sounds like my sister. When my mom passed she took the life insurance and went to Mexico and didn’t pay the funeral bill. My little sister had to take a loan to pay it off.

What a cheapskate. Don’t care the will, the guy wasn’t even allowed to access his father. He was only after the life insurance of his father and showed up only before a few months he died. What a terrible person he is. He can’t even afford $1100. Absolutely ridiculous. Bad decision of Judge Judy this one.

this woman disgusts me. to keep him away from his father while he was dying is despicable behavior and unforgivable. My brother has kept me from my father for the past 8 years over a rumor he admitted to starting. to add to this, he pulled the same thing while my mother was deteriorating from dementia and although I did get to reconnect with her the last year of her life, I was robbed of almost 7 years before that. All of this was over a Will in which my brother feels entitled being the oldest child. It makes me sad that money has such power over families

I am sure that Dad wanted the daughter to stay in the home so that is why she got it. She would always have a home and probably was not very good at providing for herself in the first place. He knew that the son could take care of himself, so he did not leave him anything. He did not want to split the house because the daughter could not buy out the brother's share so that it would have to be sold.

I went with my dad when he had his will drafted by an estate attorney. My dad asked that I be the executor of his estate. Both my dad and I knew that there would be trouble with my two other siblings, so he had it stipulated in his will that if anyone contested his will that they would receive only $1.00. They tried to start trouble with me, I suggested they read their copies of the will. They both kept quiet then.

Sad that she inherited a $250,000 property plus furnishings and amenities and couldn't see her way clear to pay the entire funeral. That is selfishness in its fullest Glory. If I was the brother I'd be exploring where that life insurance policy ended up. It could have been cashed in prior to his dying since she stated she was a power of attorney at one point.
