Regardless of whether Ten Hag stays or goes, the biggest problem at United for years is that they’ve signed a combination of over-the-hill, homegrown, mediocre, and brand players to too many long term contracts on massive wages. Literally no other club would sign virtually any of United’s players to the contracts that the club have routinely dished out for over a decade to these types of players. The net effect is the players are given far too much far too soon, they lose their hunger, the money and power gets to their heads, no manager can control them, they down tools when the going gets tough, and they throw manager after manager under the bus like clockwork starting every 12-18 months. At this point, I could care less about the media yapping about Ten Hag not being the right man for the job. Because unless INEOS categorically stop the rampant player power culture that exists at the club, this exact same scenario will start playing out once again with the next manager starting in another 12-18 months.
