Man uses bear spray to foil suspected carjackers at SeaTac rest area

A wild scene unfolded at a SeaTac rest area off I-5 the morning after Christmas after bear spray led to the arrest of two people allegedly on the run.
Washington State Patrol said the two suspects eluded police, ditched a stolen box truck, and attempted to steal multiple vehicles at the rest stop, but were eventually slowed down by a blast of bear spray.
A 72-year-old driver was in her driver's seat when she was pulled from the vehicle by the male suspect, according to her son James. He was parked in the space next to his mother's car.
James then blasted the suspect in the face with bear spray after he said he watched in horror as the suspect grabbed his mother and threw her to the ground. He said his mother is sore and shaken, but doing okay.

An even more "fun fact" than that is that most bear spray in reality, is actually weaker than the human stuff. No need: they were black bears rummaging around a rest stop, causing trouble, breaking into vehicles looking for snacks. Same-o, same-o; you can find them around fast food areas, 7-11's, shopping malls, and some bears even climb onto aircraft. Twice while entering i90e ramp from Bellevue south (150th ave se), i saw two people pulled over on the side on ramp at a very secluded location tried to stop me, I had an instict that something is not right so I did not stop both times. Both incedents happed about 1:15pm on different days. Both times they had different cars, once an SUV and once a sedan. Guys be cautious, lock your door, be vigilant specially on ramps, parking lots etc.

Pepper spray is way more potent than bear spray, it doesn’t have to be concentrated, because bears have a very sensitive nose. The bear spray just sprays about twice as far. Also criminals can dodge pepper spray cover their eyes with their hand. Bear spray comes out at a 2 to 3 foot wide cone so you’re not going to miss your assailant as easily

I'm a hiking guide in rural Alaska. All the guides carry spray. A fresh can will spray about 30 feet. I'm not allowed to carry a gun on the job, but I do. The boss must know about the gun but it's one of those "Don't ask, Don't tell" situations.

They were hungry black bears, probably, just trying to get into the snacks in the car. They don't mean to hurt people -they are just poor, hungry, and smelled something yummy. Why are folks being so mean towards brown bears, black bears, Asian bears- we keep taking their homes with new buildings; they have to get food and cars and stuff somewhere.
