True. This is something we all need to acknowledge when we see someone with a gun. Never know when we can save someone's life. If the guy would have seen him he would have been dead too. We need to do something about this schools need to be better prepared. Maybe not allow anyone inside the school without identification. I don't know how he was able to walk thru those front doors. Our local elementary school has the front doors locked. Their is always someone up front. They don't allow us to go in. However schools need to be more strict about front door entrance. I know how stressful it can be the responsibility of teaching children, turning in grades, and go home to care for your family. I edit my comment adding this...to avoid for another teacher leaving the school's back exit door open. Schools should not allow for teachers step out for lunch. I know this can sound cruel to have an outing during lunch time . Yet it simply to avoid for another shooting school from happening. I know some teachers deserve to sit and enjoy their lunch. However, this is to protect our kids while 8n school ground.

@@marymoonen4001 Everyone is different unfortunately. And I can tell you that from personal experience. I usually assume the worst from my situation, cause I'm living it. 21 years ago, I was a stupid 16 year old that shattered the lives of two families, taking two innocent lives. I was driving home from a party, completely intoxicated. I had 4 others in the car with me. I fell asleep at the wheel, driving off the road and into a decent cliff. I killed my best friend who was in the front seat and another in the middle seat in the back. I only served a few months in jail, while I destroyed two lives and ruined the lives of their families. I've been through decades of treatment for my guilt, and can tell you, I never have fully gotten over it. I have been a lot better, but that will always stay with me. My situation is a bit different from this guy since I was personally responsible for two people losing their lives, but still.

As a citizen of the UK gun crime is very low here because nobody has guns and nobody can walk into a shop and buy one over the counter like buying sweets. School shootings like this just don't happen here also. Americans can go about there rights to bare arms which is outdated over a hundred year old law but answer me this. You can defend yourself with a pistol and hand gun which is one thing perfectly adequate enough. Why the hell should you be allowed to buy and need a powerful automatic army style combat rifles on the streets. This is what has to change they shouldn't be on general sale. The shop who sold them to him should be held accountable only cares about profits. Not questioning why a 18 year old is buying two powerful weapons like that.

Whoever left that door open two times in a row needs to be arrested for criminal negligence. If people selling fentanyl can get arrested for felony murder you should be able to get arrested for leaving an elementary school door wide open.

Exactly, schools have a duty to protect kids and the first thing they are failing to do is to secure their premises. It doesn’t matter as much “how easily it is for anyone to buy a gun” this has more to do with “how easily it is for anyone with a long gun to enter a campus unauthorized”. There can be twenty armed shooters outside but if they cant enter the school guess what there wont be students killed.

I hate the way they edit these videos. Did Mr. Vargas say, he ran down to help the suspect because the car wrecked and possibly needed help but the suspect had yet to see him.. The suspect exited the vehicle with an automatic weapon, shot at least 2-3 times at them (meaning the police?) then spotted Mr. Vargas, who was already in motion to run, then the suspect took shots at Mr. Vargas. He goes on to say, no cops were there at the time ( I presume at the moment of the wreck) and if he had his gun the suspect would have been dead. The editing of the video awkwardly gives the illusion that Mr. Vargas statement has some timeline issues. It seems like Mr. Vargas saw the wreck before the police were around and he attempted to reach the vehicle, then the police arrived seconds after Mr. Vargas began making his way towards the vehicle. The statement by the reporter that the suspect did not want help makes it seem like Mr. Vargas or the police had made contact with the suspect and then started firing. Unfortunately, if that is indeed what happened. The police failed to intercept the shooter before he got to the school. If that is the case then he was so far ahead of the police when he encountered a school official and was rebuffed yet found an unlocked entrance and got into the school.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. It edited so strange. I was starting to think I was the only person who caught that. Seems to be going over everyone's head. I saw another interview where a reporter stated law enforcement engaged the shooter at the crash site. It's a little bizarre the way this new station edited the interview to cut out who was "them". I think when he said there was no police "at the time" he was possibly referring to before the police got to the crash scene and engaged the shooter, but the news station positioned that clip towards the end of the video to give a false sense of timeline according to the sequence of the witness's interview. Also when he says "at the time" that implies police were there at some point otherwise he would've just not said "at the time". I also found it odd that he said he thinks about what he could've done differently, but if the police in fact weren't ever there wouldn't your first thought be I should've called the police.

@@renbav I also saw a story where law enforcement engaged with the shooter at the crash site. However judging by the admissions of the police department today, the story's time lime is completely out of wack. If they had engaged at the crash, they still let the suspect get to the school. If he got to the school and encountered someone who did not allow entry, how did the person at the door not hear the shootout. Shouldn't the person on duty found it strange to encounter a man with guns after hearing a shoot out. The story being told now is that the school's guard was napping in a car and a teacher propped open a back door. One thing that can't be denied is the hour long stand down once the gunman was inside and the officers who restrained parents from entering the building while children died.
