Great tips in this video! About two years ago, I adopted a Chihuahua with a collapsing trachea cough. I started giving him Cosequin, which is a supplement for building cartilage which is in the trachea. It is sold over-the-counter and has dosage instructions on the bottle. It took about a month or two to notice a difference in his coughing but after about a year he had stopped coughing altogether. I still give him Cosequin and he is still doing great, with no coughing.

This is what I do for my Yorkie now. More affordable and works wonder. I have a 15 year old Yorkie who has this condition. I give him Kennel Cough by Alfa Pet comes w/instructions .I also give him Manuka Honey 3 times a day. I put about 1/4 of the honey on the tip of a of a plastic teaspoon and let him lick it a little at a time. When he gets up, 1/2 hour after his last meal and just before bedtime. He was coughing at least 10 times during day and a few times at night. Now it's more like 2-3 times a day and maybe once at night. Thank God!!!

A collapsed trachea means a dead dog. Once it collapses, they die. The trachea becomes flattened and they can no longer breathe. They live until their trachea collapses.

Did not think about the air purifier. I just got the Throat Gold yesterday so testing it now. I have noticed a big difference in weather extreme. Right now it is terrible with it being hot. Thanks for the video pretty woman. One of my yorkies was coughing so I took him to the vet. They gave me medicine for CHF. But I really do believe it is his trachea. His cough sounds just like yorkies when they are having problems with the trachea. I’m going to give the throat gold a try.

The majority of small dogs that are rescued or especially from a breeder get this from over breeding. The natural supplements help but they are not a cure. So I know I’m not putting any dogs through surgery but it’ll make them more comfortable.

@@sharaddha2023 I'm glad you replied. My pup didn't make it so if my story can help you that'd be a blessing. The vet misdiagnosed my dog. They said she had kennel cough and or collapsing trachea. I had her on that medicine for 60 days with no recovery. Turns out she had bronchitis which developed into pneumonia. I'm sure 60 days of the wrong medicine helped it thrive. It was too late for her though and we eventually had to put her down. Hardest thing to do in my life so far. Had she since I was 10 and I'm 26 now so.

Something to keep in mind for other folks that have their dog on meds! know what is med does (Real good) ask if you don't know```as I found that in my opinion he was being over medicated which put the dog in a very different manner``basically not acting like a normal dog!! ​ @Kasandra Mckenna thank you for letting me know. At times, when my Yorkie seems to have some food left over in his trachea(I puree everything for him) I simply put some olive oil in a syringe. I squirt it into his throat and then massage his throat. Seems to help him. At night, I give them both a little coconut yogurt with raw honey( honey is a natural antibiotic). They love it...lol. FYI, I have a havanese too.

She talks about the risk vs reward in your type of situation...I think you’ll find it very helpful. I really feel for you! Keep us updated on your decision 🙏

I would recommend meeting with a vet who specializes in homeopathic and alternative remedies. It would be worth discussing with the other vets about your options because it is worth exploring different options as having the tube down their throat can exasperate their condition. However, it may be necessary if there's no other options in removing the tumour. I'm assuming they've done a biopsy already and determined it to be problematic.

Coughs can worsen when dogs have heart disease. It can be fluid building up, and they need to go in to the vet to get reassessed and possibly get a dosage change on their heart medication, and a diuretic(lasix/furosemide) to help keep the fluid from building up as much. Is it supposed to be painful for dogs when we pick them up? My dog cries when I pick her up. I took her to the vet and they said that she has tracheal collapse but they never said that it was gonna be painful, so idk if they're lying to me or not cause I couldn't go in when they were seeing her because of covid19

I don’t think it should be painful when you pick her up- as long as you’re not pressing on her trachea. Not sure why they would lie but you definitely need to follow up about this crying/pain. Reach out to the vet via phone or email with follow up questions and let them know about this problem ASAP.

Also, don't pick up a dog from the underarms like a child. That can hurt spine. Support the dog in a fairly level position to pick up, especially with Dachshunds.

Lily Lopez it took me about a week to notice improvement. Are you giving the correct dosage? Teddy is 13lb so I’m giving him 6 drops in the morning and 6 drops at night. Check with your vet on this first to get the OK and dosage recommendations but you can actually give your dog Robitussin for a few days to get the cough under control and then switch to the Throat Gold to maintain going forward. Keep in touch and let me know if that helps!!

Apparantly Something caused inflammation in his trachea that made him cough for 17 days non stop. I still don't know what could have irritated his trachea, but the first vet I saw convinced me it was a collapsed trachea without xrays. I'm glad my little guy is back to normal.

My Chihuahuas was diagnosed 13 years ago. The vet knew it wasn't kennel cough because of the honk, different. Pet company's prey on people like us,, the absolute truth, I've spent hundreds of dollars on honey throat trachea support, Hound honey. Most recently, the vet told me that Robitussin DM could help, wouldn't that be contrary to what she said about moisture? Anyway, point being, none of that crap really works. $$$$$$ If your dog is young, and you can afford it, get the surgery! It wasn't available in my area until recently. $1,000 for the surgery will save you hundreds and hundreds on garbage in the future. Also may I mention that houseplants are one of the best air cleaners?

Screw the natural remedies. Dogs with collapsing trachea syndrome WILL eventually die from it. The only real hope is trachea replacement surgery. Even if you have to take out a loan or borrow money, the surgery is the only hope. Don't take chances with your baby.
