Could she not have gone on a per car basis and shortened this way up? 9 Mio Initial Invest divded by 3k Profit per Car means they need to sell 3k cars but they only sell 1800 so they sell 1200 too few cars to break even. 1.200 times the Profit per Car of 3k means they are down 3.6 mio after 2 years.

abby did such a great job; I'm shocked at how well-spoken and structured she was. Phenomenal!!

It was a bit confusing to understand how many cars were sold in the present year. New buyer vs old buyer was not very clear. An exhibit would have been better.

honestly the market sizing part took too long

I believe Abby was confused at estimating market size and growth. It was a simple calculation but I see Abby was lost for some time.

I personally think Abby's approach was very solid. It shows the level of practice and experience that this process involves. Great job!

Wow! In contrary to the comments below, I really enjoyed this case. It really did provide a glimpse into how candidate-led cases are like. And I personally felt like Abby did a splendid job in leading the case. Her drive and eagerness to solve the case are evident! You can tell she really tried to lead and take the initiative to move from one step to another. However, I did feel she could try to slow her pace for a little bit. Take a few seconds to think through her steps before jumping into mathematics calculation as you commented, and I feel like a really good practice is to ask the interview: "Is that alright for you?" so that they can point you to the right direction or provide a few hints even though it's meant to be candidate-led. Overall, a really enjoyable one and I learned a lot from it. Thank you to the team, Jenny and Abby for volunteering.

Thanks, Jason! Glad it was a good observing experience. Abby's attitude was amazing - agreed. The check-ins with the interviewer can be good, but they can also be received as hunts for false affirmation. Even better is just to pause after completing a thought and reflecting yourself, "let me check in on where I am and where I'd like to go next" - propose something - and then check in. Reach out if you'd like to volunteer for an upcoming case!

@@Managementconsulted Thank you. Certainly, I'd love to volunteer as I believe it'll be a great learning experience being cased live by Jenny. I am, however, not in any of the programs by the team. What will be the specific requirements be?

I am confused. Why do they focus on payback period ? The question in the math part is definitely about BEP and these two are definitely not the same concepts.

Solid job Abby. A better caser than some of my MBA peers! Two pieces of friendly feedback: 1. Try to minimize inflecting non-question sentences as if they were questions. 2. This was a perfect demonstration of why I don't believe in issue trees, even outside of covid. It is exceedingly difficult to think up and deliver a full issue tree in the standard amount of time expected by interviewers.

It seems to me that having seen so many interview case study, the most important thing is to 1) capture as much information, digest it, clarify if we don't understand, 2) decide SWOT, market profiling 3) and eventually, a strategy (or conclusion). That normally would seems to take around 20 to 30 minutes, with lots of to and fro exchanges for body languages seeking for signs of confidence and distress. A customer coming to the consultants should always see a sturdy and steady presenter instead of a timid panicky one. Anyways, this lady is drifting almost everywhere, not too sure if she is trying to plan for long term or what, but she is consistently going off topic IMO

Any chance we can see a video of the major difference between the big 3 case interview approaches and the best practice to solve them?

If a company sold 20k cars in the past 10 yrs, the amount is gradually built up. Y1 sales can be 0.2k and Y10 can be 4k cars. It changes Y11 potential sales from new and from replacement.
