Story 4, not only does she deserved to be fired for this, but she should have been reported to her nursing board, falsifying information like this is ground for termination of her nursing license! Someone like this should absolutely not be a nurse! Would you want this person to be in charged of one off your loved one?

I can admit that I was a slow housekeeper at a hotel. It often took me a half hour to clean a room. What save my butt from being fired for me for being too slow was the front desk workers knew my rooms were always clean. They didn't need to wait for them to be check by a manager if they were clean to standards. They could just sell the rooms to people as is.

@@alexkuhn5188 yep. It why someone had to inspect rooms so we would not giving someone a dirty room by mistake. What really kill me time wise were the beds. It takes a lot of time to make those beds look right.

I’ve got one from a hotel I used to do security checks at. I’ll preface this by saying the lady they hired barely lasted a few weeks and you’ll understand why in a bit. First incident could be considered a rookie mistake but the think she did this twice. There was a decent sized ballroom that regularly held events that included youth dances, fundraisers, and other such types of gatherings. On one of the occasions there was a church youth group gathering that was scheduled to end around midnight, the lady I mentioned ended up closing it out around 6PM that night. She ended up giving that church a great deal but the hotel lost out on the money they were set to make and as I said I think she did that twice. The next event is what got her canned. So this area is full of various types of tweakers who regularly try to pull scams to get a room for the night and most are smart enough to see through them, except this lady. On this night a few tweakers came in with enough cash for a room, no ID or credit card whatsoever, and this lady gave them the room. The next day after check out the cleaning staff walked into a disaster area, there were used needles and other drug paraphernalia thrown everywhere, a substance that stained the walls and the sink that was tested to be hair dye, and the room was just trashed. Cops got called but there was nothing they could do since all they had to go on was video from the surveillance cameras and no way to ID them. When I came in the next night I got to deal with my favorite salty night auditor as she told me a very expletive filled version of the story!

I had one but she was a co-worker. Hotel receptionist, I felt like I was the dead weight, barely doing the right thing. She was worse, after a month she forgot how the system worked, was weird to the guests talking about conspiracy theories, was the definition of an airhead. And there I was with un diagnosed anxiety and depression basically doing the job of 3 people, to which I got congratulated by the head boss about, sadly no increase in pay. And still think I am the worst receptionist they had in years. I some what miss that job.

Story 10, you can let someone go for that. You call it "general performance" and go through the process of write ups. I was a shift manager for the overnight shift at a hugely popular convenience store chain on the east coast of the US. Our mascot was a goose and we were known for coffee. If you know, you know. For a brief while I had an employee working with us that was entirely inept. I was at a complete loss whenever I gave her instructions and watched how quickly she would get lost. It got to the point I attempted to make her effectively my personal assistant just to keep her out of the way of the other employees. Plus, if I finished my stuff early I could help them get caught up. One time I asked her to pull trays from the oven. She put her hand on the handle and then came to a complete stop. She couldn't figure out how to open the door. There was no special mechanism, she just had to pull. It didn't occur to her to even try push or pull. Another time I asked her to sweep the parking lot and pointed out the door that led to the trash room where we kept the broom and dustpan for outside. It was literally straight down the hallway. I told her if she turns left or right she's go the wrong way, just go straight to the end of the hall. She got lost. I was known for my patience but that day I just let her pace back and forth in the hallway for over thirty minutes so I could run a second register during morning rush.

Had a guy that would consistently come to work at least an hour late every day, immediately start asking for a break (supposed to be 30 minutes max) when we would send him he would go outside and smoke a cigarette then come back inside and clock out for break then count how long it took to make his food. He would add that to his time, so he would be on break for over an hour and a half on average. Then he would clock back in and immediately start asking if he could go home. Would leave about an hour early so he would barely have done any work. Then the guy quits because his paycheck was too small

Not an employer, but 2 bad coworkers come to mind. One was in the break room for 5 of the 6 hours he was at work (he was part time) he got fired on his first day. The only reason I know is because I worked right by the break room door and for some reason payed some attention to it. The other started a couple fights at work and blamed anyone else she could except herself and her son, who also worked with us. We worked in a restaurant, mom and Co as dishwashers, one day she literally shoved a 16 year old (a minor here) because she sucked at her job and, through a series of events, he called her out for it. She started yelling and slammed a rack of wine glasses on the floor, breaking every one of them. Surprisingly, she kept her job and caused more drama until her last day and then some. On her last day, another argument breaks out, i forget what for, but she walks out the back, comes in the front causing drama in the dining room looking for her son to tell him to go with her, which he doesn't (everybody praised him, he's a good enough guy and didn't deserve to get dragged down). Afterward a couple people and i were talking (away from the son) and were wondering what her issue was, generally speaking. The general consensus was she was deaf (she genuinely was) and was likely one of those people who job hopped to stay on disability or whatever. Another coworker worked with her elsewhere and I can tell you she was just a b*tch, she wasn't in a bad mood, she didn't lose a loved one, she was just mean. Icing on the cake was, after she was gone for a couple of days, maybe a week or so (enough she missed a couple of would be shifts) she calls up the boss saying she was getting a surgery and wanted to know when she could start back after her medical leave. I'm telling you, her own son seemed relieved, let alone everyone else.

The first guy might have had some underlying issues, like depression. Whenever I'm depressed, I lose motivation for practically everything, ranging from basic hygiene to productivity, so there could be a chance that the dude was just depressed or going through something rough in his personal life.

Not the same scale in the slightest but at my work we have those cans of non stick cooking spray and i have knock those off of the table and it is always a disaster when it happens. they wont stop spraying and this is just butter more or less. i cant imagine if it was fucking HYGROGEN GAS!?!?! In the related note going slow in a kitchen is the worst. I have dealt with slow coworkers before and it frustrates me to no end. we have a high volume of sales and we need to get the orders out fast. and its a balancing act, you need to be fast in making the order but not so fast that you mess up the order. I try to remind myself that not everyone is as experienced as me there so i can just make the orders faster. But it still astounds me that what takes me maybe 30 seconds can take other a good two minutes or more.

I actually don't like it when managers phrase things they want me to do as a question. Maybe it's my literally minded autistic brain, but "Hey, do you want to check on the lobby?" puts me in a position where I either have to tell an obvious lie ("Yes, I would like to." (Who actually would?)) Or tell the truth and seem defiant, "No, not really. Thanks for asking." However, a direct but polite order, like "Please, go check on the lobby," avoids that awkward social issue all together.
