This is so close to mine. What I DON'T have is the breakdown of color and brand percentages. I'll be adding that soon. I really like that idea. I use the Nail Polish Rack app on my phone (which allows you to export spreadsheets), but I manually update my own as I have more categories and started it long before I started using the app. I like the app because I can easily see pictures of my polishes, can scroll through them, and search in many different ways. I do pay for it (2 separate accounts actually to also keep track of all my other nail stuff), but to me it's worth every penny of the $10 per account per year. My weird habbit? When I can't sleep, I put on an audio book and scroll through the pictures by different categories and try and name the polishes just by the picture. I have almost 3000 polishes (which I'm in the process of cutting down), so it's s fun little game for me.😊

Your distress over a turquoise/teal category is real. I have a swatch ring just for turquoise/teal polishes because I have so many!

It's the bane of my existence, I swear! Half the time I put them in blue and half the time I put them in green and then when I reorganize, I end up moving them all around again!

Love this! I created a powerpoint where I add screenshots of swatches and the name of the polish, so I remember what they each look like. I "only" have about 100 polishes though so that works for me! I get the wishlisting. I save mine on IG as an album and constantly update it.

Stumbled on to this page... this spreadsheet is GOALS❤️🙌🏾. I’m new to polish but have gone from zero to 150 polishes in a very short time. Time to start looking at organization and storage for them.

Thanks so much! I love organizing and sorting my polishes. Right now I use Ikea Helmer drawers for mine and they work pretty well but a lot of people like to display theirs as well!

I admire your spreadsheet! We have a similar style of tracking, but I specifically state the date I use mine and don't track them by color. Additionally, I have assigned each polish a season & only allow myself three months to wear it in order to give all of my polishes equal attention. Picking two or three colors from 75 is easier than 2 or 3 from 300.

I like your season idea! It definitely seems like it helps when it comes to getting overwhelmed by choice, which is so easy to do in large collections.

Wow, that's a well-planned and organized spreadsheet. I use a spreadsheet; each tab is by brand. I think I'll put all on one sheet to track usage and the total in my collection. TFS!

Thank you! I thought about doing tab/brand but then I realized I could use the filter function if I ever wanted to see only one brand and that saved me a lot of time!

I have a nail polish spreadsheet too! The only other thing I organize to that extent is my reading. I read about 150 books a year and while I don't put them in a spreadsheet, I do have a highly organized TBR list, and I make monthly and yearly pie charts out of a bunch of bookish information, as well as coming up with best/worst lists and reading challenges for myself.

Dang 150 a year! I used to read a ton but lately I just can't seem to find the motivation to do so. I just use good reads to track my books though. I like how organized you are!

@@MediocreManis Keeping track definitely makes me read more. Not in a number-driven way, but in a "no matter what reading mood I'm in atm I can find something on my TBR to suit it" way.

Yay you did it! It's magnificent! Thanks for showing it, you gave me so many ideas for mine. I just added collection and color columns and it's been fun looking back in nail blog history. I considered adding a price column, but I'm in denial that I have almost 1900 polishes. My heart wouldn't be able to take the total amount I've spent.

Yeah, sometimes I think about highlighting the price column when I'm feeling brave to see the total but honestly I don't need that negativity in my life hahaha

Walker (Olive Ave) shared her Zoya spreadsheet which I copied, but since I only have about 50 Zoyas I think I am going to try the way you do it. I may not be as detailed as yours, then again I never though I would have 154 polishes. I just ordered my first Holo Taco todays new release and Mint Mojito. Make that 163 (waiting delivery for Kelli Marrisa Orly). Thank you for sharing, we are having a beautiful day over here in W Michigan.

I can't believe this video is 1.5yrs old 🤯 because I've tried to watch it many times before.. This is the first time I've been able to watch it all the way through (That sounds insulting - I promise it isn't! 💕) because my ADHD & OCD like to fight me whenever I try to learn anything 🤦‍♀️ (yes - a video about spreadsheets counts as learning 😂) I've wanted to catalogue my collection in a spreadsheet for years. I have a sort of phobia of spreadsheets & I'm convinced I'm incapable of learning how to use them. (once upon a time I did know how to use Excel on a basic level, but I've forgotten absolutely everything) I saved your template ages ago but everytime I'd open it I'd freak out at my first mistake & run away, not touching it for months. I'm not kidding when I say this is around my 20th attempt at starting a spreadsheet for polish - I get SO overwhelmed at every stage 😭🤦‍♀️ Anyway - I tried to start it again today. I entered 2 items & felt a speck of hope.. Then realised the 'colour' boxes weren't changing colour on their own. I know how to manually change each box to be colour coded, but I was wondering if that's the only way? For some reason I thought if I typed 'Blue' it would just know to turn Blue 🤣 I know this is a bizarrely specific question, but I figured as I'm using your template (TYSSSSM for sharing it btw! 💕) that you might be able to answer my question way faster than Google 😂 Sorry, excessively long comment as usual.. Tysm for any advice! 💕 *Edit* LOL Please ignore my question - I started watching another of your organising videos & saw you copy & paste the colour into each box manually 😂 Yay at least I know I wasn't messing something up!

I think the spreadsheet is really cool.. I can understand that it's very satisfying to have.. I don't know how many polishes I have (maybe I don't want to know), but they all (still) fit in one Helmer. I like to keep the boxes that some of the polishes come in, people that know this think that's weird.. (weirder then my nail polish hobby) it just looks really nice and organized in the drawers. (nerd emoji) I have one Cirque Colors drawer, an ILNP / Holo Taco / Starrily drawer (the boxes have the same hight, so they fit nicely there) Then a KBShimmer / Emily de Molly / rest of the indies drawer, then the rest of the main stream polishes, top coats, nail art stuff etc.. and then there is some other storage drawers for the rest..

I love this sooooo much. I use Airtable to track all my polishes and plates etc.. Have pics of everything as well. I love being organized and really love how you've organized yours!!

It's easier to start the spreadsheet now when your collection is "small" (haha although 300 isn't small by any means) because once it gets to massive numbers you won't want to start it at all!

That spreadsheet is awesome! 😳🤤...I wish mine would be as nice. I used to track wear, but have not done so. 😴😴After looking at your list I may venture and start tracking what I wear on annual basis. 🤪I had not thought about doing the %color to the the overall collection. I'm so not on the game😂😂

This was so fun to watch! I also use Google spreadsheets for my nails, lip products, shoes, purses and knives. I update the sheets daily so I can keep track of what I use the most. My nail polish sheet includes categories for brand, name, color, times worn and seasonal/holiday. I think it's cool that you record collections! I currently have 141 polishes including a few top coats and one base coat. I am on a No Buy until Halloween releases start showing up this fall!

A few of them work great with my nail polishes so I post pics on my Insta stories when I find matching ones lol. This was so helpful! I started my spreadsheet sheet a few weeks ago off of your template, having never used Google sheets before and doing it on the app. I already own a little over 400, so doing the worn sheet got too overwhelming for me. I think I'm going to omit that sheet and just enter all those numbers manually. It seems like way less work than entering all the info every time I wear a polish, unless I'm missing some shortcut somewhere. I'm ok with tracking overall #'s vs. yearly, through it is interesting to see the all the details.

This is awesome. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. It felt like we all were there with you to love, smile, and enjoy you talking about the polishes. I decided to start keeping track of my polish in 2016 I believe Then, at the end of 2019 I decided I would start keeping track of all the polishes I wore because my husband had asked me was there a point of too much or enough polish. That was a funny thought in itself. Of course, i had many reasons to give. But it got me thinking. How many do I wear and give me motivated to wear as many as possible....plus it it is very therapeutic and calming for me to just sit on my own quiet time and just paint my nails. So I have the notepad app that comes with my phone in categories by brand for the polishes I buy, then my polish wear, and polishes I want. That has kept me content so far. Thank you you again for the video. I hope the other ladies on KZbin will follow suit. Very enjoyable.

Tracking polishes worn has also motivated me to wear more and it's also helping me see what colors I'm neglecting! I love seeing how people organize and track things, I feel like it gives insight into how their mind works.

@@MediocreManis well after tracking my wear the first year this year I vowed to do better. I wish I would started tracking the from the beginning...I did go back and forth whether or not a skittle mani counted as 5 polishes, for example, because I really enjoy pairing in the last year. 2 polishes on one hand with the combo of 3 and 2 fingers seems to be my fav though. Really have enjoyed this year of wear and has also encouraged me to try to make sure my nails didn't break while doing the laundry of all things.

This spreadsheet is absolutely EVERYTHING. 0.0 I am in awe! I love organizing too and had started a spreadsheet myself in Google docs but seeing this beautiful beast, well, I've got to update mine! I have a bunch of tabs for each polish brand but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to do like you have done and have a "master list". I just started tracking what manis I'm doing as well. I'm afraid to put cost down in a column but honestly, I probably should. >.> Thank you so much for sharing this!! I live for the organizational content hehe.

I like having the master list and then just filtering it by whatever I need, brand, color etc. And yeah, sometimes I just pretend the cost section isnt there hahahah

What I am lacking is all those amazing hacks and formulas you have ! Which now I am craving to know. Also I add extra columns according to new ideas that I want to track. I was thinking the other day I want to add not just if I used it or not, but to add how many times. And also I wanted to split between manis and pedis🤣🤣🤣🤣. Crazy right? Some time ago I started tracking recipes which I was collecting but it was even worse the amount of recipes, so I abandoned it. But always feel the need to conclude that. 🤣🤣

I realized I don't know how many polishes I have (guessing ~500) and then thought well wouldn't it be great if I put them all in a spreadsheet so I could always know how many! And then know how many of each brand! FYI- Enchanted Polish just closed their business, so you won’t be able to purchase from their website anymore. Also, I noticed you don’t have any Wildflower lacquer, I highly recommend this indie brand, she has a lot of beautiful polish coming out soon in the colors you like, you can look on the Facebook group “Wild for Wildflower Lacquer”

I showed this video to my hubby, and you should have seen the look on his face. He was like, "WTF!"!!! But he organizes his information for his job in a similar (and highly detailed) fashion, so I don't see what the problem is!!!!!!!! I have somewhere around 600 polishes (I need to count them again), but I don't have a spreadsheet. I guess I'm lame!!

Hahahah! People who are not in the hobby are always lile holyyyy shit when they see it, it always makes me laugh! If you like data organization you should definitely make a spreadsheet even if its just as simple as brand and polish name! It has helped me stay so organized!
