Hey, sis! We are back today talking about what it really means to manage our money God's way. In today's video, I share 3 money habits that we need to BREAK and 3 money habits we need to be keeping or cultivating. As women, pursuing the heart of God, that means that what God thinks about how we should spend our money matters. Whether you are going through a season of surplus or a season of lack, the facts remain: God cares about how we spend our money. I hope you enjoy!!!

Bad Habit I'm breaking = Impulse Spending/Emotional Spending/Frivolous Spending Good Habit I’m Keeping = Benevolence Funds to bless others, & paying down debt, minimizing use of credit cards except strategically (air miles & Costco rewards)

One major habit that I had to break was in understanding that everything I have God has given me and He has given me enough! Finances used to always be an area that would give me so much anxiety and worry but it was because I was trying to prevent something that hadn’t even happened. Instead I know put my faith and trust in God! I’m so grateful for the grace and wisdom that He has given my husband and I! Loved this video and this word!❤

Bless you As a single mother (my choice, God's grace) I've always been hesitant to tithe when I feel things are "tight " .I know God has been and is still working on me in this area because He's never failed and I know He never will. Pray I trust Completely 🙏🏾🙌🏾
@FLS.-

I used to feel scared to tithe too but I'm not a mother so your fear is probably different than mine. I wrote you this really long response about what helped me but I erased it as it was lengthy. But, in the beginning tithing is scary, however, build your faith by building your relationship with God and tithing will eventually be less scary (it was for me). One reason is because I grew to know that God will ALWAYS have my back and He's proven it to me. Also, the closer you get to God and the more you get in your word you realize God isn't a liar. If He says he will provide for all of your NEEDS He will. Also, budgeting helps too haha. I'll be praying for you :).

Hello Melody. Thanks again for another word of wisdom. One bad money habit that I had to break was attaching my worth to my low bank account. As you've mentioned because of the society we live in, it's easy to feel like you're not enough if you don't have XYZ. However, I've come to realize and know that God is my source and provider, and not the job ( although I need one ), and HE provides for all my needs, therefore I lack nothing. The second one was spending more than I made. This was a tough one to break. God made me see what I was spending my money on was for things that I didnt need, just wanted. He showed me how to be humble and minimilistic. Doesn't mean that I cant have things, but I learned to weed out my wants from things that I really needed. Things have changed drastically in the past few years and Im more intentional with what I spend our money on. I also stopped inpulsive buying. I had a bad habit of buying things that I really didnt need or even thought about buying, but because I saw it was on sale or bargain, I would buy it just in case, and then never used it! Such a waste! Thank God I dont do that anymore. Thanks again, and have a great week!

This was so great! My bad money habit was that I would spend too much helping people. One day I got tired of never having any money and I took it to God and I believe He showed me I wasn't being a good steward of my money because there's a difference between helping and enabling. I thought giving to those in need meant I was stewarding well but the thing is if you're giving to the same people over and over again you aren't. You are pretty much becoming their ATM and blowing God's money. I had to learn there are many ways to help others that don't only consist of giving all of your money such as teaching and helping them create a budget, researching local resources they can use and presenting it to them, volunteering to watch their kids so they can accept a better paying job etc. SO many options. Giving money is definitely fine but there is a such thing as giving irresponsibly and that's what I had to learn and what I had to go to God about.

My bad money habit was always eating out everytime I went out and got money . My replacement habit for it is exploring in my kitchen and making most of my craving from home . I also had a problem with spending alot on clothes but I decided to take sewing class so I can remake anything I want to see in my closet . Not only is it a profitable skill ,it's a good money saving skill and generational skill to teach the younger ones in my family.

It would make me feel so bad to have no account for were my money went and I had bills to pay. so I had to stop that cycle I started with a Financial fast and it opened my eyes to how much money I was wasting. Tithing 😇 and keeping my money stingily 👿 I took time to realise it but when the change occurred, I felt God was really caring for my finances and also for my spiritual health. Wow! That is so amazing to see how much, in fact, the Bible teaches us about keeping our financial resources safe and to take care of’em. I feel, over the centuries it was demonized in churches. While irl, God has never been against that. Indeed, what kind of loving God could willingly omit or prohibit the « money area » while knowing full well this is so essential for His beloved creatures? Not Ours in any case 🏆✨

My bad money is overspending which I know is rooted in selfishness. I get anxious when my money is sitting there and feel like I need to buy something all the time. Then I’m anxious when I look up and can’t account for where my money went. My pastor just did a sermon on this same topic Sunday so I know God wants to correct me in this area. I simply want to replace my overspending with stewardship. I haven’t ever viewed what I receive as Gods resources and blessings to steward. Please pray for me as I know breaking this habit won’t be easy but I truly want to honor God and be free.

Hi Melody! Thank you so much for another great video❤ One bad money habit that I had and am slowly unlearning is spending more than I have. I used to do this a lot when going out with "friends". I would spend on items for other people, be it drinks, food etc., even though they'd never actually need it (& probably wouldn't ever spend on me the same way). I know that generosity is a great virtue, but in these instances I admit that it was my pride taking over because I didn't want to seem like I couldn't afford or was poorer than my friends. I was also a huge people-pleaser then and the money was always at my disposal with no immediate need. Even though I'm only 20 and still living with my parents (so I don't have to worry about lots of basic needs), I still make an effort to curb this spending desire by budgeting especially for long-term goals I have, and limit any unnecessary purchases or going out. I also make an effort to contribute the little I might have to the family budget to take some of the weight off my parents. Lastly, there's this quote I heard years ago that shifted my perspective on money, particularly before I purchase anything that I would consider a luxury item - "If you can't afford to buy it twice, then you can't afford it".

Soooo true tithing HELPS and idk how it works but you really reap what you sow in various areas in your life that allow more money to come your way. I tithe more than 10% and make sure I set it aside weekly. Amen

Thank you for this, Mel! Being a good steward of my finances has been my heart's desire since I was young! I am in the process of finding a way to track every dollar that I spend. I took a crack at it over the weekend and.... let me just say, I want to be less expensive, haha. Thank you for dropping these gems and suggestions. I will continue on this money journey and not give up easily! I need to 100% work on not overspending...

100% agree with everything especially tithing. We must give back a portion of what we bring. A be cheerful in giving. I don't why but I feel better when I tithe.

5:24 thats my biggest flaw. I grew up in a pretty affluent home when I was a kid and it was very hard for me because I was very spoiled unfortunately and I got everything I wanted in my life. After my dad passed away and my mom lost her job. Things kind of changed her. I was so used to this luxurious lifestyle that I saw that I couldn’t understand how to steward my money. I need to work on that. Because I like really nice things not like Louis Vuitton nice but like food I love healthy food and organic food and its wayyy expensive to be healthy. So i have a stuggle between.. do I eat healthy and pay more to stay healthy or do I get cheaper food but regret it later because my body will be affected by it?! Thats so hard for me.

I am currently breaking my spending habits on things I don't need in the moment and can wait for in the future. I realize I have a spending problem and I have been talking with the lord about it so I am working on breaking that now.

Love this video 💗. I always thought that the more money I made the more I could spend but thats foolish of me! One good money habit I have is I’ve always been giving! I just need to incorporate tithing. But I’m a shopaholic !!!

Always having to have my nails done and now they are more expensive than they have ever been so I found a website they have some pretty sturdy and beautiful press on nails so where I use to spend $20 or more on my nails I’m spending a dollar for the nail pack like maybe no more than five dollars so I save there.

Being stingy and being afraid to spend money. God is delivering me from a poverty/lack mindset. In terms of a good habit, I don't spend any money on my card until I pay tithe.

This video came at the right time. My bad habit is not being consistent enough and I just looked at my budget planner and said for July and beyond I will stay consistent and use it like I did but also be conscious and aware of of my purchases. I’ve been reading Get Good With Money and I’ve seen how I have been foolish with my money but now it’s time to get wise and mature my finances as I am maturing myself.

Thanks for this Sis🙏🏽 I love the message & we are managing in our home as well. It is a consistent battle because it’s so easy to lean towards the flesh but God is there for us in our moments of weakness to pray to for help.

Thank you for this video ❤ I used to have the habit of buying things just because I thought they were nice but most of the time I didn't need them (besides I spent the money that I had to spend on other more important things) I changed the habit and now before buying something I think better if it really is a wise purchase. Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 🥰

One of the habits I had to break was not saving and overspending I’m doing that by writing out a budget and making sure that I don’t go over it Also it’s helps to have a set amount your gonna save (after the tithe of course) then spilt the rest

You know the crazy part about the rich ruler? He was suppose to sell his possessions meaning he wasn’t even gonna be down bad. He still would have had a return. He could have just bought new stuff if you really think about it. He didn’t love his neighbor like he said. He was self righteous. He responded as if Jesus said give all your possessions away for free which I think is wonderful to do if you have it like he had it. It just shows where his heart was.

Stop borrowing from my loan [the loan hat was to help build credit but it kept me living paycheck to paycheck]! I was spending more than I had at the time because I was using up this loan and paying it off with all my checks instead I started the want need rule… do I need this? Can I afford it right now? Don’t need it, can’t afford it: it can wait! Saved the money I was spending from my checks then boom! My credit skyrocketed because less % was spent I had money in my account, saved my checks and turns out I didn’t need none of that stuff I was spending money on… who knew?!
@Honestliahnesti

So basically spent more than I made and I created a budget plan with deducting from my check the bills, a certain % for groceries a certain % for savings and a certain % for tithes and pay myself…
