Maybe nice to know fact for the people who didnt know. Dianne has founded Ex Libris, back then first under another name I thought. Joost van den Broek is also involved. He was the keyboardist from After Forever at the time and also produced albums for Epica and Xandria. And now for Ex Libris

Awesone reaction! Totally made my day! They also have a lot heavier stuff but I went for this one because it's my favourite. If you want to hear their heavier side I'd suggest going for Daughter of Corinth or From Birth to Bloodshed from the Medea album or "The Raid", the final song from the "Ann trilogy". I'm actually not big on history myself but this Ann trilogy really got me doing my homework and it just hooked me like nothing else. They had Chapter 1 about Anne Boleyn, Chapter 2 about Anastasia Romanova and Chapter 3 about Anne Frank. Also great to hear you got into stuff like Archspire. I'm actually quite the tech-death nerd as well. And yeah, you pronounced my name way better than I do with Dutch names! Anyway thank you sooooo much for the reaction! Peace!

She is classically trained. Her name is Dianne van Giersbergen. These songs are about three different Annas from the history. Anne Boleyn and Anne Frank, as well. Dianne also used to be a vocalist for Xandria. What a kickass song, my music theory is a very rusty but I love the distinct "Russian" sound they have in their harmonies, not sure if it is the scales they may be using or the key they are playing in, but it's very immersive, oh and amazing singer too!

I'm glad you mentioned Nightwish, because I was thinking while listening that the singer sounded more Tarja-esque than Floor-ish LOL. Not a bad thing, but if there are going to be operatic elements in a song, I usually like them to be mixed in with other styles and not the main style throughout, the way Floor tends to sing. I never really liked opera; growing up, the singing sounded pretentious and phony. But like you, the more I hear symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, Epica, etc. the more I'm coming to appreciate operatic vocals incorporated into metal and rock. And I do like her vocals in this song, I'd be interested in hearing other songs by them.
